  1. I'm trying to edit an audio file and getting a message 'file or volume is locked' I have checked and actually unlocked the file and the volume it's in, but I still get the message
  2. 1. Another question - In Logic, when I 'open' a mid file, 16 tracks load (which takes time) even though the mid files might only have 3 tracks. Is there a way to avoid this? 2. BTW, another program that will open anything is Qmidi which I use as a mid player on stage. It is wonderful at playing anything. In fact , it created these files that I'm having problems with - by merging a mid file with a txt file. Now here's the kicker. My new Roland keyboard, which loads .mid/.kar files, sometimes sees the first line of the text file (contained in the mid file) as the title of the song!!!! When I put these files in Logic, the tracks are all named by the first line of the text file!!!!!! So I rename the first track by the proper title and voila - Roland is happy. I do wish I could read somewhere on how to properly prepare mid files with text included.
  3. Thanks - your advice has been very helpful. I'm working in the murky world of mid files that include lyrics. (for unknown reasons these particular files won't open in Cubase but they will in Logic!! However I got this interesting message on a certain file..... (I got this message after opening about 100 midi files.) Don't worry about replying, I just wanted to show someone why I might get the impression that Logic doesn't 'open' mid files. (like Cubase) LOGIC ERROR MESSAGE
  4. When I import a midi file in Logic Ex. 6, 7, 8, The data comes in fine - but not the tempo. Is there a solution? (I've checked the preferences - I haven't found a 'filter' )
  5. Hope I'm not covering old ground here but..... I want to play bass and piano in Logic at the same time, with a split USB keyboard (or perhaps 2 USB keyboards.) I'm talking Express 6 here but I don't think it matters what version. so.... 1. Can Logic V. intsruments accept 2 midi channels at the same time and play 2 instruments at the same time. 2. Can Logic have 2 different instruments on 1 midi channel and restrict the zones so I get a split. I am interested in the same questions for Garage Band too. If I could accomplish this in GB and not have to involve the dongle associated with Logic, it would be much better for live performance.
  6. I have a question on the forum (which has been ignored) re: Using meta events for lyrics in a midi file. When you import a midi-karaoke file (.kar) Logic interprets lyrics as meta events (#60) I want to find out if I could create a midi file with lyrics, and how. (Well, I know you can because I have some that came with a consumer model Suzuki piano. They scroll the lyrics in the window (as do Yamaha files created in XG Edit)) I've always imagined you could play a melody that the lyrics would associate with, and then turn the note events into meta events, and then type in lyrics. Tedious but do-able. Am I on the right track? (no pun....) I am asking all this because I cannot find a program on Mac that will create .kar files. Lots of players (including Quicktime) but no creators.
  7. Of course, an alternative is to get rid of the environment page and then you wouldn't need trainers for Logic.
  8. I want to try using meta events to make midi karaoke files. I'm working in Logic Express 6. The manual is useless on this topic as far as I can see. How do you add a meta event in Logic?
