Hey youll, I know I have probably asked this question before or at least a similiar one, but im in a bind. I am putting out a mixtape next money when i get back from a vacation, but i am working on it now so when I come back all I have to do is burn copies and stuff. I am currently using a shure ksm27 mic, presonus firestudio tube, obviously logic, but not protools because i have not mastered it yet. I have a pop filter in front of the mic, which is in the vocal booth that I built(extended closet with a door and window, and soundproof covering 90% of the inside) My problem is, I never know what levels to record at. That goes for the volume levels in logic,on the firestudio tube, and the mixer software it comes with. Every time I get an aswer, people talk in language i dont understand lol,i try to do research on it but im a visual learner unless I have step by step instructions. I cant afford $45 an hr for a studio but I want this mixtape to be as perfect as I can get it. Its a first impression to the people of my rap abilities. I know everyone is different, but please give me some general tips that work for everyone and most set ups.
Basically just want the sound to be clean, and not to loud and not to low. I find that lowering my mic volume just a little bit makes it to low(and i can barely see any waves in the audio region) or if i turn it up a little it seems to be to high and sounds horrible.
