  1. Please excuse me if this sounds like I'm losing my mind;-) Yesterday I finally "upgraded" from Monterey up to Ventura and Logic 10.7.9 to Logic 10.8 and have been in testing mode today. Has it always been the case with Logic that if a VI MIDI track was selected (and not record enabled) that you could still trigger the notes of that instrument? I always use Capture when I record MIDI so am not paying attention to record enable. Today I'm doing my thing and select a track, play something and hit Capture and notice that record enable is never "turned on". Thanks for confirming my possible insanity:-)
  2. As of Logic 10.6.3 I'm still having this "bug" or known feature (not sure which it is). Do some people have their undo history carry over from session to session or is this now the same behavior across the board? I don't remember ever having undo keep it's undo history list from day to day, ever. Maybe it did at one point and I just don't remember. Having to work in DP 11 recently to mix a project I recorded 14-15 years ago I was reminded how great DP's undo history is (as someone else had mentioned). I could jump back to 2006 and undo things if needed. Anywho, not a deal breaker as I've come to accept it but it sure would be nice if we had it. Maybe in Logic 11;-)
  3. Occasionally I have to mix or produce other folk’s work and thusly run into different ways of producing. Let’s say you have a kick drum track where one is using an audio file of the kick and then placing it on the grid to create a kick pattern. Is there a quick way to duplicate this track using a different kick sample for layering purposes or replacement? At this point I’m doing it by hand (no big deal as it’s pop/dance stuff). I guess I’m hoping for a version of “word replacement” like MS Word but in this case tell Logic to replace all kick A samples with kick B sample. I realize I can use Logic ‘s drum replacement ability w/midi but wondered if there’s an “audio only” way to go?
  4. Yes. I’ve had this issue for years on different macs/versions of Logic, etc. Super intermittent. I’m used to punching in with a foot switch. This week I had a client so was recording normally where I punch in with the querty keyboard. It happened once during that session. I’m not sure what would cause the audio to be recorded a little late. It’s usually off by around 1 beat.
  5. Bump again. Still having this intermittent issue. Am now using a Faderport 2. It seems this bug is only happening to me for some reason. This week some midi data was captured late. Maybe it has to do with all the various hubs I have connected. It’s hard to trouble shoot since it’s intermittent.
  6. Bump and asking for suggestion: I'm still having this issue intermittently but say it happens probably a good 40% of the time so it's super disruptive. Any stand alone USB midi foot foot switch suggestions? I'd be willing to try something that neither connects to the Alphatrack or the MTP AV. I have a Komplete Kontrol S88 mkII but it only has 2 foot switch inputs and they're both taken.
  7. I think I'm making some headway by reinstalling Play and Opus. Things seem to be improving.
  8. Ever since this update I seem to have to always do a force quit in order to completely shut down Logic. I think this might be related to Play and Opus, if that's possible. I'm doing testing putting just one random VI in a new project and then quitting and it seems that both of those VI's are causing it to hang. I've reinstalled both of them and have also rescanned both of them in the plugins window. Not sure what else to other than the might "rescan all audio units" thing. Any ideas?
  9. Yes, confirmed!!! This has been driving nuts (that and not being around humans for a year...). When looking at the notes in the mixer I can see that the notes I did write are only showing up in the track stack channel. They are propagating in all the tracks within that channel when in track view. In mixer view the actual tracks are blank. Glad there's this workaround and hope they get it fixed. Let's all file a bug report on this one.
  10. Any standalone usb footswitch recommendations? For years I’ve been experiencing issues where after punching in the audio is getting placed slightly delayed. It’s random and happens with whatever footswitch configuration I use. So far I’ve tried 2 different momentary switches going into 2 different Alphatracks, a MTP AV and Yamaha s80, different Macs, versions of Logic, OS’s, etc. (maybe I’m cursed). Maybe it’s a simple configuration issue I haven’t figured out yet. Thanks for any suggestions.
  11. I’m finally in Catalina full time for about a week now. If I had to do it again I’d probably go clean install verses migration assistant. But, I think more plugins are actually working because I did use MA as some don’t have installers that work in Catalina. Overall, it’s been very stable but it’s also a brand new Mac so that might have something to do with it.
  12. I’m mixing songs that are 25 minutes long so was hoping to speed up those bounces:-) thanks for your input.
  13. I've just upgraded from a 2010 Mac Pro 12 core 266 to the new iMac 10 core w/128gbs ram, super fast internal ssd and a super fast external TB SSD. I'm testing things and wrote a short 2 minute song with a handful of VIs and audio tracks and am seeing how fast it bounces. With all plugins/VI's it takes around 52 seconds. Without any plugins (but with the VIs) it takes around 14 seconds. And finally, with no plugins or VIs turned on, it takes around 3 seconds! I was hoping the first bounce (with everything turned on) would feel more "zippy". From all my geeky testing it seems that the reason it bounces "slow" with everything is due to the UAD plugins. Whenever they are disabled it bounces noticeably slower. I'm assuming this is because the UAD stuff runs off the chips in the Apollo x16 and are limited by the speed of that processor, correct? So, if I want "fast" bounces I'd have to not use UAD stuff (which I probably won't do). Am I missing anything else? I've tried all the other audio settings within Logic which didn't seem to make any difference. Thanks!
  14. check your apps, plugins (hold down the option key & click on 'about this mac'; it will now show 'system information'. check under 'applications'... you can see there what 32bit apps you have; those won't run in catalina. ALL my 3rd-party plugins (& i have a lot) are 64bit, and all worked instantly in catalina (from an upgrade, vs a 'clean install'... which might have been more complicated). anyway, good luck moving forward (or not). Did you use migration Assistant to transition over?
  15. I've been trying to decide weather or not to upgrade my 2010 Mac Pro to a new Mac Pro or an iMac Pro. A big issue with Catalina is there are still many plugins and VI's (and some apps) I use that aren't quite "Catalina ready" so I know many of the projects I'm working on just won't recall correctly. I'm running on Mojave now so don't anticipate anything huge getting in my way if I can stay in that OS. That unfortunately knocks out the new (more favorable for me) Mac Pro off my list. That really only gives me the iMac Pro as a real option. Have any of you gone through this same transition? I'm going to have to invest in a new audio interface and tons of other things and am not crazy about having computer gear in my control room ( I currently have a computer closet). The fact that Thunderbolt cables can only be 6 feet long seems super limiting too. I'm sure I can adapt but am holding back on making the jump. Who has done this move from a tower to the iMac and has enjoyed the change? Currently I'm eyeballing a used 10 core iMac Pro as a possibility. Thanks!
