  1. Great thanks for that - rewind/fast forward by division value was what i was after
  2. I was curious as to whether there is a key command available to make the playhead move in smaller increments than a bar which I can get by using the keys. It would be great to be able to move the playhead in increments of an 8th note or 16th note when zoomed in without having to reach for the mouse.
  3. I ran some more tests and here is where I am at. When bouncing in place with audio I am getting no/negligible latency when dealing with audio to audio. When bouncing midi to audio using software instruments ( EXS24/Battery 3) my latency is around 5 ticks. When using the External instrument plugin for my external synths ( Juno 106) when recording into Logic ( routing the midi track to a bus and then selecting that bus as a input on an audio track) I get approx 25 ticks latency. I also ran the test whereby you take an audio file and route the output to an input on my audio interface and record back into Logic to ascertain the recording delay. The result was 33 ticks when I adjusted the recording delay parameter to -33 and repeated the test the two audio files matched up perfectly. I guess my main problem now is trying to reduce the latency when using the external instrument plug in. A lot of my synths are hardware based and I would like to get the latency down from 25 ticks . Any other tips? Thanks Scott
  4. i opened up an instance of my drum sampler Battery 3 and programmed in a midi part triggering a snare. I then quantized the midi snare part and used the BIP function. The resulting audio was around 4 ticks late which again was a marked improvement on where i was at previously .
  5. I tried bouncing an audio file on an audio track with the specified settings and yes they pretty much lined up on the grid. A much more accurate result then when i had tried to bounce virtual instrument midi. What do you mean by? "If yes, then add one item at a time, with a new BIP each time until you reach your configuration" Thanks for the help thus far. much appreciated.
  6. Thanks for the quick reply. I already have my Plug In Delay Compensation set to 'Audio and Software Instrument Tracks' which I believe is the best setting to use when recording? I also have my buffer set to 32. Anything else i should explore?
  7. I have recently discovered that when I bounce in place within logic that the wavefom of the newly created audio file does not align perfectly with the grid. I experimented with a few different sounds with sharp transients and the audio files generally start approx 85 ticks late. When I bounced in place I had the low latency mode active. I also had the recording delay set to -33 as per the ping test. What can I do to resolve this problem?
  8. Tonight I had my first attempt at tracking a beat I made on my MPC1000 into Logic. I assigned each of my MPC drum tracks to a different output synced the MPC1000 to Logic using Midi Clock (MPC1000 was the slave) and record enabled my tracks within Logic. The tempos on both the MPC and Logic were set to 126bpm. I then pushed record in Logic. Each ind drum track track was successfully recorded into Logic but the tracks don't align with Logic's grid. The recorded audio is all marginally ahead of the beat? As you can see in the image below the kick waveform begins well before the downbeat of bar 4. http://i54.tinypic.com/2zf0o6o.png i asked the guys on the MPC forums about this and they claim that I should not expect the MPC and Logics grid to match. They suggested I either physically shift the tracks or use the midi delay feature to get them to align. i am not sure about what they mean by using the midi delay feature. Anyone on here managing to track their MPC drums into Logic and have them align with Logics grid? any advice would be much appreciated. : )
  9. Hi David, Thanks for the feedback. You are correct. I followed your fader/software monitoring tests and it appears that I am indeed using the MOTU's monitoring features rather than Logic's. I scoured through the MOTU manual but couldn't find much info on how to disable monitoring in the cuemix FX software. Can anyone here point me in the right direction?
  10. i have been working through David's Apple Pro Training Book in an effort to better acquaint myself with Logic. I am currently working on the second chapter which outlines how to record an instrument ( guitar/bass/.vox) into Logic. i have a few questions regarding recording my bass. I have my bass plugged into the mic/inst input of my motu ultralite interface and have selected the appropriate input for my new audio track. The track is registering a signal and I am able to record a signal into Logic. My first question is regarding channel strips. From the description in David's book it seems like I should be able to hear the tone of my bass change as I audition different channel strip settings whilst setting up to record. Is that correct? At present I am not able to do this. I am only able to change the sound of the bass by selecting different channel strip settings after the signal has been recorded into Logic. If for instance I record arm the track and select the Trshy Distortion bass channel strip setting if I then go to play my bass it has no effect however once the bass is recorded into logic if I play the track back I can clearly hear the channel strip setting taking effect. Am I able to hear the effect of the channel strip on my bass tone while I am recording? From the description in the book it kind of seems like I should be able to. Another minor related question i have is regarding the tuner. I followed the steps in the book but have not had much luck with it. When I record enable the track I can see the signal registering and again I am able to record a signal but when I instantiate the tuner it doesn't seem to pick up my bass signal at all. Can anyone help me out? Thanks Scott
  11. I noticed also that Logic has a default template Oberheim Matrix 1000 within its Bank Message Menu ( accessed by double clicking on any channel of the Matrix 1000 multi instrument in the environment) Unfortunately selecting this option didn't remedy my situation same sitch - when I click on any of the program names (0-127) - the only thing that changes is the Bank Number.
  12. I have another question regarding the Matrix 1000 and Logic. In the Logic Environment I have created a new multi instrument and assigned the correct midi channel and port and enabled Program Change however when I attempt to select different patches on the Matrix 1000 from within Logic I am only able to change banks rather than individual patches within those banks. i.e. I am only able to change the first digit of the Matrix 1000's three digit display. Anyone on here using the Matrix 1000 with Logic - any idea where I might be going wrong?
  13. I am looking to set up my Matrix 1000 in Logic as an external midi instrument so that I can facilitate patch changes from within Logic. I don't fancy entering in all 1000 patch names manually so was wondering if anyone had a list of the Matrix 1000 patch names as a word doc?
  14. I would like to set up my MPC1000 as an external instrument in Logic so that I can sequence my beats on the MPC1000 but have the sounds processed (fx) through Logic at the writing stage prior to having to track individual sound into Logic for mix down/further arrangement etc. I would like to have each of my core drum sounds kick/ snare/claps/hihats routed through Logic on separate channels. I figure in order to do this that I would set up 4-5 external instrument tracks in Logic assigned to the MPC with the appropriate inputs selected. Within the MPC I planned on assigning pads to the four assignable outs as well as the main outputs on the MPC1000 so that each drum sound comes out of the MPC on its own output - where I am running into trouble though is that when assigning a pad to any one of the 4 assignable outs of the MPC the sound only comes out of one speaker? Is there a way to alter this so that the sounds that I have assigned to any one of the four assignable outs comes out both speakers?
  15. I have been at this for a couple of days now and have not really made much progress. Here is where i am at. Logic recognizes all 14 inputs of both MOTU Ultralites. When I bring up the MOTU Cue Mix Software it registers signal level from instruments plugged into either unit however I can only hear the unit which has the main outputs plugged into my monitors. The other unit which does not have its main outputs connected to the monitors whilst registering a signal on the Cue Mix software does not make any sound. Thoughts?
