  1. Thank you, volovicg, for taking the time to explain why I was unable to use the copy features as well as for the excellent illustration of your method for accomplishing the task. I think that, between your ideas and my workaround, I am all set! Kindest regards, Gerhard
  2. Hello, I'm needing to duplicate notes from one staff to another within the score editor. I need to use a polyphonic style as I require the voice separation tool for my work. I've seen it done in the Schwartz tutorials, but I can't seem to make staff selections independently (all staff lines light up "green") when I click on the staff I wish to select as a pasting destination. Pasting always results in pasting to the topmost staff of the system, following which I need to select the next MIDI channel to push the copy to the desired staff. Seems cumbersome. Am I missing something? Thank you in advance! Gerhard
  3. Thank you, David (I will be using your textbook once again with my students this semester -- thanks for a great book). Deleting the Samson "Logic Control" controller (looks like a HUI) from Control Surface Setup and then powering off/on unit got the Samson to show up in the MIDI Controllers list with the "Auto" checkbox. Also got the "would you like to auto assign..." Thanks for leading me in a direction...So far, not wild about the job auto assign does for the Samson, but now I can play around with it. Thanks! Gary
  4. Hi, I have a lab running with 16 Samson Graphite 25 controllers. All stations were upgraded from a pre-10.2 version to 10.2.4. At the time, the MIDI controllers were not auto assigned per this dialogue box: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205896 I don't know how useful this auto assign feature is with the Samson's, but would like to give it a try...I have read the article and am aware of the option to "change this later in Preferences->Control Preferences->Control Surfaces->MIDI Controllers" (there is no such exact path, so I have tried Logic Pro X->Control Surfaces->Preferences->MIDI Controllers), but the Samson does not show up in the MIDI Controller list that supposedly allows selecting "Auto" to enable automatic assignment for a device. The Samson only shows up in Control Surface Setup -- NOT as a MIDI Controller. I've tried trashing prefs, but to no avail. Any ideas? Thank you in advance for any assistance. Gary
  5. Hi David, Thank you as always for all your help. I've generally been able to do what you describe. This time, however, I have a pre-existing, single-note melody on its own software instrument track. It's already timed/synchronized perfectly with the vocalist's audio, but the singer is off by several scale degrees at times. Using MIDI-IN, might you know of a way to use said pre-existing MIDI data from the playhead position to transpose the audio pitches (i.e. either in playback or step-entry mode)? I hope this makes sense. Kindest Regards, Gerhard
  6. Hello, Trying to use the "Midi-In" button on a vocal track with flex pitch active in the track editor to use an EXISTING MIDI track's information to "tell" the audio track which pitches should be present. Is this possible? A function from within the MIDI Environment perhaps? Is there some way to route the MIDI track to the audio track to accomplish this? Many thanks in advance, Gerhard
  7. Hello, Can anyone tell me whether this setting or settings still exist somewhere in Logic X? As in the screenshot, it used to be available in preferences->arrange->background. Many thanks for any help. Gerhard
  8. Hello, Long time Pro Tools user learning out of David's text. I think I've been having issues getting flex time to work properly with the tempo sets feature. It seems as though the apple loops cut out early whenever I play with a faster tempo set (per David's book pp. 309-312. Conversely, when playing with just a single drum track (slow drums in the text) I have problems whereby the drums seem to be influenced by tempo sets OTHER than the one currently active. Might I be going about entering flex mode at the wrong time in relation to creating alternate tempo sets? (i.e. "to make them follow the project tempo you need to choose a flex mode...only when the track is playing at its correct tempo"). And, by "correct," does this mean original? Thank you for any help in advance. Gerhard
  9. Thank you all very much for the useful information. I wasn't expecting to get so many great responses. Thanks! Gerhard
  10. Hello David, Thank you very much for the reply. No, not really the answer I'd hoped for but I feel a HELL of a lot better hearing it from the guru. If this is something they've altered for Logic 9, I might have to jump aboard right now! Also many thanks for a great book. Love the color pictures. Been through it and it's very helpful and clear. Best, Gerhard
  11. Hello, I am coming to Logic from both Pro Tools and DP and have a question about setting initial automation (i.e. bar 1). So, I get my overall balance for the tune and I want to go to bar 1 and (a la DP) create a "snapshot" or (a la Pro Tools), simply throw everything into write mode and hit spacebar and have my initial faders written to automation. Problem is, in Logic, "Write" just erases everything. There must be a better way to print volume automation from the beginning than having to group everything, throw into "latch," hit play and then jiggle the faders and stop. Any advice? Using Logic 8 (Logic Studio) Thanks in advance! Gerhard
