  1. I had the same issue, with an empty additional content window. Based on your steps, I figured it might have more to do with the regional settings rather than the language selection. For example, I had English as the system language, but Finland - Finnish as the region. So I changed the region to United States, and when I started Logic Pro X 10.1, sure enough the additional content window wasn't empty anymore. Hope this also helps.
  2. Just a potential heads up if you bought the electronic version of David's LPX book from the iBooks Store, and are running a business. I'm thinking to get LPX certified, so I bought the e-book for my business. I wanted to get a VAT invoice -- Apple does not normally issue them, but you should be able to get one by requesting it. I didn't do this when I bought LPX from the Mac App Store, but maybe I should have. Well, in this case I was reminded by a helpful support person that I have agreed to make iTunes Store purchases only for personal, non-commercial use. That's not entirely true; after reviewing the iTunes Store Terms and Conditions, it seems that it is really like that for iBooks Store, but for Mac App Store and App Store purchases, the customer can be either an individual or a business. The problem here is that, even though IANAL (I Am Not A Lawyer), I think legally I'm not allowed to use the e-book for commercial purposes. Also, I can't get a VAT invoice for an iBooks Store purchase for my business. I guess I should have ordered the printed version of the book from Amazon in the first place. I'm going to try to get a refund from Apple, but I'm not surprised if they decline and cite the terms. I know it's not a big deal money wise to not get the VAT refund, but the terms for iBooks were kind of surprising. After all, there are a lot of professional books available in the iBooks Store. EDIT, a few days later: iTunes Store made an exception and will refund me for the e-book. I immediately ordered the printed book from Amazon UK.
  3. Yes, this is on purpose. OK then... I couldn't figure out why, so I thought it was a rare error
  4. Thanks so much for confirming this. The workaround you suggested was effective, so thanks for that too. I hope you report bugs like these to Apple as you find them -- I would have thought it was a problem with the media file, rather than a regression in Logic. Just to note: the file Tambourine.aif actually has a leading space in its name. You can also see this in the screenshot on page 126; it appears first in the File Browser because of that.
  5. Possible issue regarding "Logic Pro 9 and Logic Express 9" by David Nahmani: Lesson 7, pages 278-279: Make an Audio File Match the Project Tempo When I create a new stereo audio track for the tambourine part, and then drag Tambourine.aif from the browser, I get a 100-bar-long audio region with two short tambourine sections and one long, with silence around them. It's like the file was the complete bounced audio of the track. It also plays in project tempo without Flex mode. If you drop the file on bar 1 (instead of bar 29 as suggested), the tambourine sections seem to match the song choruses (bars 29, 61 and the longer one at bar 81). However, with this behavior, copying the part to other choruses does not go as described in Step 7 on page 279. This might confuse some readers, unless I'm doing something wrong. What do you think? The audio file, as it came from the DVD, is 4.9 MB, but when you preview it in the Logic Pro browser (or Quicktime Player), it plays for only 18 seconds from start to finish, and with a slower tempo than the project. Dropped into the project it expands to those 100 bars, without any Flex settings applied.
  6. Hi David, for questions about the book, should we start a new thread per Q (if so, in which forum area, if not this?), or just post here in this one? I have something I'd like to verify with you, but I hesitate to hijack this thread.
  7. Yeah, it's just that once you're in Native Mode, none of that applies. (I went through the steps of assigning CC#1 to the Joystick Y as described in the manual - to no avail.) Logic takes over and does what it does. And one thing it apparently doesn't do is pass through the joystick Y value. I searched inside the Logic 8 application bundle for a configuration file that would allow me enable the Joystick Y value to be passed through. Looks like the control surface support is "baked in" into the Logic application, am I right or should I keep looking?
  8. Assuming you mean the MIDI Activity display in the transport bar, nothing (that is, it just shows "No In"). The X axis does register, but the Y axis doesn't. It's like the Korg native mode support of Logic just captures it and doesn't pass it through. For example, I've loaded a scene in which "joystick Y as mod wheel" works, immediately before starting up Logic 8. When native mode takes over, it's gone.
  9. I have a vintage 2005 Korg microKONTROL which I use as a MIDI controller keyboard. Logic Pro 8 supports Korg native mode, so I can control Logic with it, and the LCD displays show useful information. So far, so good. The microKONTROL has a joystick instead of separate pitch bend and modulation wheels. With the default control surface settings in Logic, the X axis of the joystick sensibly controls pitch bend. The Y axis, however, is not assigned to mod wheel, and it seems it can't even be done. Has anyone come across with a method to assign the Y axis of the mK joystick to mod wheel duties? Or, has anyone solid information that it simply can't be done? This is a surprising omission that is not a deal breaker, but would be nice to get working. Many synth patches do useful things with the mod wheel, even if it is just adjusting filter cutoff. I have verified that the joystick Y axis is recognized in other software. It can be assigned to mod wheel (MIDI CC #1), and often is, depending on the microKONTROL scene loaded.
  10. I have a Kawai K4 working together with Logic, using the MIDI port on my Lexicon Omega. I think your MIDI cables are plugged in the wrong way around. I just switched mine and the symptoms match. You need to connect the K4 MIDI output to the input of your MIDI interface, and the output of your MIDI interface to the K4 MIDI input. Hope this helps. If not, ask again with more details. Use the Snoize MIDI Monitor to verify the MIDI traffic. (Moderator: this thread should probably be moved to Tech Questions)
