  1. I'm slightly confused (or maybe a lot) when it comes to these topics. I have 6 vocal tracks each with compression, EQ, reverb, pitch correction, and gate. If I want to parallel compress these and use an FX bus to cut down on plugin use. How do I set it up? Remove stereo out from Individual vocal tracks Bus each vox track with identical FX, Post fader to Aux1. Aux1 will use Stereo Out. (FX Bus). Unique FX/settings will remain on individual vox tracks. Bus each vox track Post Fader to Aux 2. Aux 2 will have Stereo Output Bus Aux 2 Post Fader to Aux 3 (Parallel Compression) Do I have that right?
  2. This is exactly what I needed. I actually placed the CC messages in order 1-24 (they were randomly assigned), then I did midi learn in logic. Changing the channel was pretty much the last thing I had to figure out.
  3. Thanks for this. There is a mixed bag of options in the CC dropdown. Do I chose Volume Fader for each encoder knob? If memory banks are my presets or banks, how do I chose memory #3 if faders 17 and higher? Using the Channel button +pad 3 on the controller?
  4. I think I found it... I found out have to change channels on the Beatstep. Then I have to change the track header's channel to correspond. Is there a faster way to map it to the right channel without having to select it in the track headers afterwards? EDIT: I think this is only good for software instruments. Can't seem to find where to change channels on audio tracks.
  5. I used midi learn (cmd+L) to assign one fader and knob at a time.
  6. Sounds like it might work if I knew how to do that. I have MCC downloaded, but not sure how to do what you are proposing. Sorry, I'm very new to programming MIDI.
  7. I have a project with 20 tracks/faders. I have a midi controller (BeatStep) with 16 knobs. How can I learn the remaining 4 faders (17-20) to the Beatstep. Is there a way I can use another button on my controller like a "shift" key to re-use knobs 1-4 as my control for faders 17-20?
  8. Just looking for some guidance or thoughts on an issue I've always experienced with direct guitar recording. I tend to record/play guitar using amp mods like Amplitube. There is an issue with any realistic setting I create that uses a saturated/distorted lead sound (think Ozzy, Metallica, Megadeth). When recording or simply jamming with the input active, I end up with noise and microphonic feedback as a note decays or if I'm not playing a note/chord. The issue is dramatically reduced when the overall system volume is reduced to halfway or less, but then I can hear room ambience and that doesn't lend well to guitar feel that comes with higher volumes. Using a gate is not ideal for me because it will cause sustained notes to cut out prematurely. This is despite being a safe distance from screens, using headphones, shielded guitars w/ humbuckers, good cables, etc. Basically, ideal real world equipment that is quiet otherwise. Even if nothing is plugged in to the duet input or headphone jack, it's possible to see this noise reflected in the track's meters. It has got me thinking that I'm missing some key knowledge to the approach for direct guitar (not at all the same as plugging into an amp). I am planning on experimenting with plugging in the guitar as usual but dialing up the Duet's input gain to about 1/2 way as per the on screen display. I'm trying to wrap my head around pushing as much gain as possible from the guitar's input signal into Logic and dialing it back to 0db before hitting Amplitube. Is it the same thing? I tried a Scarlett a couple of years ago and the same issue existed. Furthermore presets that are included with Amplitube seem to be way less saturated than what their names imply.
  9. Is it possible to get a control surface (nothing fancy) with assignable faders for under $100? What do people use here?
  10. Deleting unused audio. My hardrive is starting to get 3/4 full. I would like to delete unused audio. Of course, I would like to be sure files are not being shared... usually I'm pretty organized, and I tend to be paranoid when deleting things. Is there a quick way determine if files are being used by another project(s)? Thanks
  11. Seems like I figured it out myself. I did not need to lock anything. No tracks were locked, I spliced, and deleted the intro, leaving empty space in the new tempo area. Edited in my tempo changes, and everything is good now.
  12. Hi, I have a scratch track recorded. The song currently has a improvised intro that I want to keep, but I need to re-record it, then add instruments. The drums I have are midi drums, which I would like to keep. as I like the drum track, but may need to make minor tweaks to fills or sections later (I tend to keep my drums midi until I'm ready to do a full mixdown). The current tempo list is good, and I recorded using click (but I shut off the click during the improv'd intro and it's a different tempo purposely), however, I need to insert a new tempo 104 bpm, which will then change to the 95bpm, which then changes to 135bpm. How do I do this? I've tried chopping up the midi track, I also tried locking SMPTE. I want to lock down the current position of everything currently recorded, add the new BPM, and I will fit my intro in perfectly. Is this possible, or do I have to re-record a new drum track?
  13. 1st Song: Very good overall. First thing I thought of vocally was Bob Dylan actually.. I agree with one of the previous guys, the vocals are great, but a little too up front. Don't back them off too much though. Song writing is great - clean, good changes, and builds as the song progresses. Voice has a good natural tone to it. I think the High Hats might be sizzling too much. 2nd Song: Again, great songwriting, changes, vocals, melody. Lots of space between the instruments First few notes of the guitar solo sound a little sharp#. - That's really the only critique I have. Great stuff!
  14. Thanks for the feedback. Buc021, are you saying I probably don't need to re-mix the drums, just add a little EQ to notch down the OH mic?
  15. [soundcloud] [/soundcloud] Would love to get some feedback on this production-wise. Thanks. First time I can honestly say I am happy with the sound overall.
