  1. Hi, I would like to be able to control Logic's master tuning in realtime - to be able to play along w/ a song which is slightly out of pitch, for example. I've seen the project settings-->Software Instrument Pitch slider responds in realtime but I was unable to map this e.g. to a hardware control \ key binding which would be very nice. I vaguely know in Sysex a Master Pitch Request exists but no idea if Logic responds to that... any hints ?
  2. Hi, I've set up an environment for live playing where a cable switcher is controlled from my MIDI keyboard's physical buttons - to route notes to a different instrument each time. I have an issue with stuck notes - if switching while keys are pressed, there is no "note off" sent to the previously selected instrument. any hints or tips on this? I've thought of two possible directions: 1. create 2 cable switchers, one will route MIDI to the required instrument, and one would switch to the "previously selected" instrument and route a MIDI All Notes off event. Problem is, I can't seem to be able to program such a thing. I can set the value of one cable switcher e.g. to one-less than the other, but that's not quite good - it is mathematically 1 less, not "previous" instrument. 2. use a delay line to trigger an All Notes Off event, then trigger the cable switcher, but the delay only works if the sequencer is in play... and besides it's not that good anyway. so, q. is there a way to send an all-notes-off to the "last before this" cable ? is there a way to use a "switch cable when all notes are off" that may actually be achievable if we count all note-ons and all note-offs I guess ? anyone ? btw, I really liked mainstage for realtime programming, but it's no where near as flexible as Logic's environment. I've gone back to that.... Thanks everyone -Shay
  3. Hi, I have added apple loops to favorites category, and would like to move this list to a different machine which holds another install of Logic. any notion on how to do that (Logic Studio 9) Thanks, -Shay
  4. Hi, I don't have a solution or anything, just wanted to say I used to hate this but after a while just getting to know how this works and playing with it a little I changed my mind and i kinda like it now, actaully for zoom more then for scrolling, it does take some practice but once you get the hang of it it lets you zoom and scroll at the same time, saves some hassle. I treat it kinda like the EXS24's filter cutoff & resonance control (the figure of 8 thing in the filter area, you know what i mean ?) regards, -shay
  5. got a cheap MS "multimedia" wireless keyboard, it has a few extra buttons, so I use their software (very good btw) to assign the transport controls on it as logic's, well, transport. it's very cheap and very flexible and so FWD, Rewind are used to move one bar an each direction, +,- volume I use for browsing plugin presets etc etc. (ok, you got me, I use a hackintosh and so this is my PC keyboard, but it really works great in the mac world, except instead of a neat "apple" (or cloverleaf) key I have a funny "Windows" symbol he he, it works great as an apple button.)
  6. well, I consider using "save a copy" which in my mind is like "freeze this" and then i resume work on my current file name. I also try to do that whenever i "like" or want to preserve a certain phase of my work e.g. OK, got one mix roughly ok, i'l save a copy, then l keep tweaking but i can always get back to that version, and i'll call it like "my song, mix var1" or whatever descriptive name. I'll use timemachine to take snapshots e.g. record my work as it progresses. what do you think of that? is it effective ?
  7. K, thanks for the input, I appreciate it. BTW I work in 24 bit.
  8. Hi everyone, I guess this might be a bit impractical, I just want to make sure i'm not missing something here. My issue is this: I've tested a few of the common AU's (Logic internal and 3rd party) and each one uses a different dB point e.g. a sine wave coming out of different AUs generates different levels (RMS, peak) I've even began compiling a list... my question is: apart from having to set faders at different levels (obviously) simply to get the musical levels right, should I be concerned? would an AU generating -28 dB for a sine wave be more susceptible to artifacts (e.g. uses less bits since volume is low) then one generating a sine at -6 dB? anyway, while I'm OK with mixing theory, I'm rather new to the practical aspects. it all stems from starting to read up on a book which talks about gain structuring so I'm looking for a reference point: should I pay any attention to this at all ? I'm pretty sure I know how to avoid distortion, not saturate any Aux etc, it's just that some instruments get into the mixer real "hot" and some are really low - in analog mixers there's "trim" but is there anything like that in Logic / AU? btw did find a level control on most synths, e.g. in Albino it's very nice you can set it for 0 dB or +6 dB. naturally the meters in Logic read a completely different number but hey, that's technology for you right ? should I go on and compile my small lists? would it be useful for other people as well ? thanks for a great forum, sorry for the lengthy post
  9. it's marked \ and is located between the left shift and Z. at any rate, having found it I use it - this thread is MOST helpful - thanks!
  10. Hi, thanks this is most helpful. ever seen this one: thanks so much! -Shay
