  1. I'm looking at the new mac pro on the apple store.... so many choices... 4, 6, 12 core... ram.. etc... I run a lot of CPU/Ram intensive midi instruments (for use of a better way of saying that ) e.g. aprox. 10 east west sound libraries including Hollywood diamond brass and strings. and lots more.. I can also be a messy worker, and I need space to be messy. So I'll be opening midi tracks here there and everywhere and loading up loads of instruments... not always having time to do things to reduce the CPU and memory usage.. but I do my best..... and my 7 year old Mac Pro generally handles things ok... but I have to keep bouncing some tracks off, or opening multiple projects.... e.g. I'm doing a project now and I have the main project for the main body of instruments, then I open a new project called, "XXXX ADD SOUNDS".... then a new project once that is full, again, "XXXX ADD SOUNDS 2"..... Then I bounce those into the main project as one audio file and mix it in. Trouble is, if there are changes to a video and I need to make strucutral changes, I am then opening up loads of different projects, going in and out. ANYWAYS... my point is... I want to be sensible and do what I can to save CPU.... but I need something that doesn't hold me back from working in one project. So I want a beast. So I'm looking at what spec would be a as low price as possible... but something that can truly handle everything well. Which mac pro would you recommend ? apologies for long winded question.. hope there's some sense in my nonsense !
  2. I'm upgrading to the new mac pro in a couple of months. I've always used internal hard drive bays.... but I have to change some hard drives when I need different sound libraries... which is so dysfunctional when I'm in the middle of a project. Is there some kind of portable rack unit or something that can hold multiple hard drives, connected to mac pro. Also fast when the mac pro reads the instrument drives ? Ideally I'd like something that holds 6 hard drives and is fast - 4 hard drives for instruments and audio files - Read only. - 2 hard drives for projects - write only Or any other solutions anyone might suggest.. Basic plan is get a mac pro, audio interface, 2 x Neumann KH120's, midi keyboard and hard drives.. for a portable setup that I can carry as hand luggage on a plane. (I don't even know if carrying a Mac Pro around China is a bad idea yet... I can take long train journeys if I have to)
  3. I did some more looking and seems you're right that there's nothing out there for this. I can advise the client of this. Main thing is I am sure it's fine... it's more for them to cover their backs. I'm a big star trek fan, so that story was cool !!
  4. I would link the tracks here.. but the video series is still in production and I think it could be sensitive to put online before its broadcast. Otherwise that would have helped !
  5. Thanks MikeR ! The intellectual property attorney sounds like a good direction. That's a sign post I didn't know ! xD ... I have a friend who's a lawyer, he might know someone. I was hoping there would be some kind of online service... send the tracks in, get them analyzed and stamped with approval. Can't seem to find something like that.. I googled a few different descriptions but didn't lead anywhere. Intellectual Property Attorney.. I'll give that a try ! thanks

  7. I have a piece of music which I need to get some kind of musicologist-type person to give it an official stamp of approval that the music I've made is original and there will not be any grounds for legal issues with this music being broadcast. Do such companies and services exist ?
  8. I've been working 10 to 14 hr days on multiple projects without a day off in over 2 weeks, and I think I have another 10 days to go. I am in a situation where I've been hit with many set backs (business) and to stop now is throwing away so much. The projects I have on are music composition/production for TV & Cinema commercials. I can't use studio monitors at the moment, so I'm using headphones every day... and I know that's not good for my ears... and how thoughtless it is to do that. General health info... 6 weeks ago, I did a 33KM race across some mountains.. so I'm physically ok generally... but I haven't done any exercise in over 2 weeks... some days I don't leave the house.... there was 3 days in a row when I didn't eat from morning until after 7pm in the evening (too focused on work)... I've put a stop to not eating now though, and I eat porridge in the morning and mix in some protein powder.. and take some flax seed oil tablets (omega 3 brain food).. and order lunch in or whatever I have to do that doesn't take me away for too long. I only have 1 coffee in the morning. I don't work past 12pm at night. And I generally get between 5 and 8 hours sleep a night. So it's not all bad. But I feel I'm not being mindful of my health... my ears, eyes, back.. brain.. I'm going to get a big jug of water and put chopped lemon and ginger in it... and have it on the table.. keep forgetting to do that..
  9. I often call a project one name, then bounce the project to wav/mp3 and call the track something entirely different. I also can bounce a file to my desktop instead of into a folder in the project folder. I try and be mindful not to do that, and am improving. However, I still sometimes slip up and do this. Thanks for any help with this question: If I have an audio file/track.... an mp3... called, "Blue Cat"..... this track "Blue Cat" has been bounced from a project to my desktop.... and I can't remember what the project was called.... Is there any way, just using the mp3 called "Blue Cat", that I can locate the project that it was bounced from ?
  10. I have the latest EW Play Update. I will try not using the Mbox. For the project I'm doing, it is going to be quite big, so I'm not sure what will happen, I'll give it a try. Thanks for the advice!
  11. Even when I start a new project, add 1 midi track, and load for example a piano from East West Goliath. I start playing the keyboard and I've got rice crispies in my headphones, snap, crackle and pops... they're not intense, just little occasional cracks and pops... here's a screen shot of my audio settings.. anything basic I'm doing wrong? http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy117/yack_49/ScreenShot2012-07-25at142450.png My Mbox 2 has been used for about 5 or 6 years now I think.. could that be the problem? when I bounce the project to an audio format, the pops stay there... as in this track/sketch I made a couple of days ago: [soundcloud]http://soundcloud.com/jake49/knocking-at-the-door[/soundcloud] I have a really important project I have to complete by Monday so any help and solutions would be greatly appreciated.

  14. Hi all, I moved to China, I'm making music and doing different things out here. I joined a gym, really good guy just opened it. There's probably better forums to get advice, but was hoping someone might have some tips! The gym ceiling is around 6 or 7 meters high.. and floor space is aprox. 10m x 15m There's LOADS of reflections and reverberations (my technical language is limited) which need to be resolved to help the environment and work out experience. (sound system and the trainer speaking) What I've done in studios in the UK is built my own sound buffs and successfully deadened the sound. I had boards which I stuck acoustic foam to and covered with material.. then attached to the walls. Where there are parallel walls, I placed a sound buff on one side and left the other... as the sound bounces straight into the sound buff. So I was thinking the same for the gym... of the vertical walls, covering 2 of the 4, so that 1 of each opposite wall has sound buffs. I was thinking to create panels rather than cover the whole wall. Because it's a gym, we're thinking foam isn't the solution. 3 sound buff/panel samples arrived yesterday and only one has the aesthetic look that the gym owner is happy with. It is made of a sort of PVC, Hard card board type material. It has 2 layers, one at the back with lots of holes in it... and on the front has strips which are aprox. 1.5cm with a 0.5cm gap in between. (I'll post a pic, just texted him to picture message me a pic of the sample) Basically just PVC with 0.5cm gaps in between strips. It is apparently designed for sound buffs... but I'm in China, so who knows! If you want to see pic, I'll post that up in a bit. Other than that...... Anyone have any tips, advice on cost effective but EFFECTIVE ways of deadening sound in a space this size? Taking into account it's a cross fit gym, lots of sweating... it's well ventilated etc... but I don't think the sound buffs I make for my studios in UK are suitable as might absorb smells. Much appreciated for any help!
