  1. I'll chime in. I've been browsing this forum using a Dell Mini 9...running OSX. I use it as intended as a netbook, but that's it. I browse the web, check email, and most every other common activity on the Dell. But my Logic setup is still my PMG5. Rather than buy a new machine I maxed out the RAM and got a new display. It's *almost* like having a new Mac. I think this is as far as I'll get to a hackintosh.
  2. I just got the Samsung 2433BW Monitor. 1920x1200. 24". DVI and VGA. For under $300 (closer to $250, actually). That's less than what I bought my 20" dell for 3 years ago. The Samsung doesn't include more ports. Dell's typically do though. I like the Samsung - I still have to tweak the brightness on it though. It's great using Logic on that monitor and then continuing to use my Dell for other software (like Reason) side by side.
  3. Maybe there's a kind soul with a ton of time on his hands that will go through each new guitar setting and save it as a channel strip for those of us without GB09? …Not it.
  4. Logic almost always gets an update shortly after GB does. I'd be surprised if Logic 9 came out in a few weeks, but not if something like Logic 8.5 comes down the pipe as a software update. I hope they don't do that crap where you have to buy a $20-$50 upgrade DVD. Ugh.
  5. Grabbed it through emusic. It was legitimate.
  6. Even this crap. Really? http://www.teamyacht.com/archives/000231.html He's talking about Ableton Live, btw.
  7. Yeah - I grabbed YACHT's album "I believe in you. Your magic is real" about 1.5 years ago. It was alright. I liked it and have listened to it a few times since then. But man - this whole thing has soured it for me.
  8. Anyone else paying attention to what's going on between Audio Damage and YACHT? YACHT, an electronic group/guy, recently participated in a series called "The Setup" that asks people what hardware and software they use. In that interview, he practically gloated about pirating Live, Reason, and Audio Damage plugins. For some context, he started his interview stating he's got 2 (nice) computers and an iPhone. Audio Damage just celebrated their 5th anniversary. They were not amused, and pointed out this idiocy on their blog. The Setup with YACHT (has been edited): http://waferbaby.com/setup/2009/01/09/yacht AD's response: http://www.analogindustries.com/blog/entry.jsp?msgid=1232779669878 To me, indie software and indie music are quite the same. It's a challenge to make music, and having dabbled in simple programming I can see how software development is very much an art form as well. I find it odd when musicians, needing to pay the bills and asking for you to buy their music, condone the same behavior they're against towards software developers. Years ago I friend of mine had a pirated copy of Norton Antivirus. When asked why he didn't buy it he stated "I think this kind of thing should be free." Ok fine. He was also a Captain Beefheart fan - I probably should have asked him for his copy of Trout Mask Replica. It's pretty much essential listening to him, so therefore it should be free.
  9. Loud noises!! Yes, the lines are buggy. Get the lowest notes on the bottom and the highest notes on the top and it's great. I hear Apple has their best engineers working on the line problem, but it will require Snow Leopard. If you have a G4 a hand comes out of your monitor and slaps you.
  10. BTW - what's wrong with the lines? I think they're there for a pretty good reason - it's harder to convey the length of MIDI events in that kind of space with regular notation. The lines do that very well.
  11. I'm hoping that they make it so that MIDI regions show neither lines nor notes, but a scrolling event list. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Logic update soon in order to coincide with the release of GB '09. Some of those new features are already in Logic, aren't they? Automatically hiding the dock is optional, and so is the song backup stuff. I'm not in front of my logic machine though. I find it hard to believe they'd add ANOTHER drum machine after bringing Ultrabeat in Logic 7. Seems like these are almost the same kinds of features that got passed around by secret sources months before Logic 8 was released. EDIT: Opening statement sandwiched between nerdy HTML style sarcasm tags.
  12. I'm thinking that Songsmith is more technology to integrate into a product than it is a product on its own. For instance, Microsoft's ESP (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/esp/default.aspx) is not much on its own, but my brother has been going nuts over it because he sees the potential it has for Flight Simulators - which he loves. I see the potential for children's singalong software and helping out songwriters.
  13. Semi-related because the computer in the back has Logic 8 running. Main link if embedded player doesn't work:
