Anyone else paying attention to what's going on between Audio Damage and YACHT?
YACHT, an electronic group/guy, recently participated in a series called "The Setup" that asks people what hardware and software they use. In that interview, he practically gloated about pirating Live, Reason, and Audio Damage plugins. For some context, he started his interview stating he's got 2 (nice) computers and an iPhone.
Audio Damage just celebrated their 5th anniversary. They were not amused, and pointed out this idiocy on their blog.

To me, indie software and indie music are quite the same. It's a challenge to make music, and having dabbled in simple programming I can see how software development is very much an art form as well. I find it odd when musicians, needing to pay the bills and asking for you to buy their music, condone the same behavior they're against towards software developers.
Years ago I friend of mine had a pirated copy of Norton Antivirus. When asked why he didn't buy it he stated "I think this kind of thing should be free." Ok fine. He was also a Captain Beefheart fan - I probably should have asked him for his copy of Trout Mask Replica. It's pretty much essential listening to him, so therefore it should be free.
