  1. Hi, at the moment i am using the Apollo pres and they sound great! A
  2. Hello CK, i own Live and keep on upgrading every time, but i never really gave it a chance, besides rewiring it to logic back in the day when it came out, in order to easily sync up previously recorded loops to my sessions. It's not that i don't like it...i think it's a very well made program, but i believe it's due to the fact that i am so used to Logic that when it comes to recording music i feel much more at ease with keeping everything in a familiar environment. I don't really do sound design per se , but when i "create sounds" for whichever application i tend to use hardware instruments as opposed to software. I hope this helps, A
  3. Hi David, i do use pedals, although not as much as i used to. I use Strymon's TimeLine and blueSky a lot, especially performing with the Buchla Music Easel live. I can't recall any particular song where i used stomp boxes...a lot of the sonoio stuff is based on modular synths, which arguably are stomp boxes in another format A
  4. Hi Eric, sorry for the late reply. I use Mainstage as a mixer, basically: depending on my configuration i run synths, guitar and bass through it and use it for FX also. I run a few VIs in it occasionally. At the moment i am using Madrona Labs' Aalto with its Soundplane controller, ESM and EXS24. I usually have a Ground Control Pro by Voodoo Lab to switch patches and two assignable expression pedals for various tasks, song dependent (could be a reverb send, a channel strip volume, etc). I do get crashes occasionally, but i'd say they're mostly due to specific 3rd party plug ins. I am in the final rehearsal stretch with How To Destroy Angels, so i'll try to post a screen cap of my Mainstage session with them as soon as i get a spare moment ! A
  5. These days I've been listening to: Function Vatican Shadow TM404 Miles William Basinski Forse 1 is an instrumental record, written and recorded live on a buchla music easel, so i would say it's similar to blindoldfreak but more sparse. A
  6. i never really have to deal with latency problems, as i only hit logic when i am done writing with sounds and parts on external synths, therefore at that point it's simple printed audio tracks. Exception being when i record vocals, but so far i have been lucky and i don't recall having problems with latency and tracks lining up correctly. A
  7. i agree with you...the key is moving on. The fun and excitement of making music tends to run out quickly for me if i am working on one idea for too long.
  8. Good question...and difficult. I'd have to say "Everything Ends Here" from my first instrumental EP , blindoldfreak -1. It is a simple piece, recorded live, with mistakes and all. Once I recorded it (in a hotel room in Canada, I believe) I realized for the first time that I didn't have to add anything, fix anything nor edit anything. For the first time I realized that a message can be delivered through a piece of music that it isn't necessarily polished nor formatted. Since then I try to convey as much as possible on every take or recording, in hopes of not having to spend too much time on it and losing interest or spontaneity. A.
  9. Drum machine. I hardly ever use the DAW for creating ideas these days. That might change in the future though! A.
  10. Hi, I started singing very early on, around 5 or 6 years of age: my mom listened to a lot of music and I used to sing along with her. I also remember recording songs on my boom box for my grandparents to listen to in the the car on their way home, around 7 years of age...I wish I could find the tapes! I never really had formal training besides a few classes, but it's pretty obvious if you hear me live A.
  11. Hi, It really depends, but more often than not the spark comes from using an electronic instrument of sorts. It could be a modular synth, a drum machine or a sampler...I tend to play around until something comes. I usually don't get to Logic until I have a pretty good idea of how the composition is going to evolve. I am using logic more as a tape recorder these days...not much during the creative process but mostly for mixing and recording. A.
  12. Hi David, i am afraid it's to early for me to be talking about NIN tour stuff, sorry! I am currently busy getting my rig together for the HTDA tour, which will be once again Mainstage based. A
  13. Hi David, i used it as a Vocoder, nothing weird about it. I do run it through Decapitator most of the time though. A
