Hope this was not already covered, I searched for it but did not see it anywhere.
I am using the Match EQ to try to get a similar sound from a commercially released song, genre not specific, but a major label release. I am obviously using the final, mastered version. When I use the match eq, my mix has not yet been compressed, eq'd or limited on the master channel (outs 1-2). This obviously make the overall volume on my template material much louder than my song.
Since my mix has not been limited, normalized, etc. when the match eq is "learning" my material, does it take the overall volume difference into account? Should I be doing a super-light limit first, then using the match eq and doing the mastering afterwards?
My main question is: Where in the insert chain on my master channel should the Match EQ be used?
Thanks,
