  1. I was wondering if he may genuinely have a PT endorsement and that's why he was saying wild things about Logic. But he has actually been more damning of PT than anything. It's been YEARS since I worked on a PT project, but he was working on a song and it started sounding wrong and when he found the problem it was something like; Oh yeah, pro tools sometimes does this weird thing and your files can mysteriously move by 1/4 of 1/4 of a beat. Hang on, WHAT???!!! Wozzah...
  2. I don't read too much into one person's opinion. My actual question is whether or not people have come across this subject in other places too.
  3. Ryan Tedder has a course on the website Monthly and in his intro he talked about using PT and Ableton. He said he likes Logic and the only reason he stopped using it was that he just couldn't get his bounces to hit as has hard as he could in PT, where 'it would just slam... it sounded more competitive , more urgent, more energy, it hit harder." He mentions the team in Apple consulting with him and 'I'm still a massive fan of Logic, I'm a massive fan of working in it. ...no matter how many times they called me to help me. ...I just couldn't get it to sound as good.' I'm a Logic fanboy, it does everything I need and I'm not worried about my bounces. However, I've never A>B'ed between LP and PT and it seems like Ryan has. In the world of song pitching, every 0.5% you can be better than others is important as it's so competitive. There are so many possible things that can change things, from gain staging to bit rate, but we have to presume he knows all these things and would have gone through them with his team and/or Apple. Maybe he was using a native PT plugin whacked up to 11 that couldn't be replicated. Maybe he was on a project with a deadline and gave up before actually finding the simple solution. And I'm sure there are other high level pros that say Logic has better bounces than Pro Tools. Either way, it's interesting... Has anyone come across this elsewhere?
  4. I'm resurrecting this not-really-that-old-thread rather then posting a duplicate question. I'm getting back into Logic after a bit of time away, the memory has rusted Having made a lovely template in the arrange window, it hurts me right in the OCD to hit 'x' and then see those lovely ordered and colour coded channels now spread everywhere like dropped skittles (this happens when the mixer in is in the 'All' display mode). Is there really no direct way to have the mixer automatically match the layout of tracks in the arrange window?
  5. Not to worry, the book is suitable for 10.6, the differences between 10.5 and 10.6 are very small and don't affect the book at all. Great news, thanks David!
  6. Hi David. I received the book, but hadn't started when 10.6 landed. Will the 10.5 book be suitable to use alongside 10.6, or are the differences too big?
  7. Hi @David Nahmani, I'm looking forward to your release on this 10.5. how are you doing with the writing and a release date?
  8. I would have guessed the SD card would be slow, but just wasn't sure how much. Thanks for clarifying Des99
  9. Hi all, I'm back to using Logic seriously after an extended period of only dabbling. The rust is slowly falling off Will an MBP have much performance improvement if the Logic sounds (and possibly other samples like Splice etc) are moved to an external hard drive? If so, might the SD card in the built-in slot be an option for this? I'm working from a late 2013 13" MBP at home and a Mac Mini 2020 in the studio.
  10. Hi Eric, thanks for the reply. Are you suggesting to bounce in place with the offending track, or is that reference to doing a bounce of the project i.e. create the 2 track master?
  11. I'm working with a simple mix in which the lead vocal keeps getting loudly audible clicks in the last few bars, but in slightly different places with each playback. There are only 11 tracks in the entire mix and not much processing. I keep getting the clicks even when I freeze the tracks. My Logic CPU monitor is showing the the first 7 cores all well below 20% throughout. But core 8 is hitting peak often during playback (see attached) and even when Logic is idle it is jumping up and down between 50%-95%. I haven't been as studio-active lately as before so I'm possibly missing something simple. I need to print this mix, any thoughts?!
  12. I read today that the Ensemble mic preamps can be controlled from within Logic, which is nifty (excuse me for being late to that party ). I'm in the market for new converters/interface and was wondering what other front ends offer control from within Logic? Is it only Apogee?
  13. I'm coming to the conclusion that I may need to take a different route as I can't get these units talking to each other in sync (the Ultratmatch shows a red light for DIG IN). I'd love to keep the Neve for its conversion. Maybe a box that will take the Neve's AES output and give it to the Mac via USB or firewire, that way I don't need to clock two items on my input. I'm trying to hard to keep my set up high quality and very simple, which is proving complex
