  1. This is a nice addition for keeping track of outboard gear settings.
  2. I gotta say, this update is pretty amazing. Step and Phat FX are both really great additions to the toolbox, the Vintage EQs really sound much nicer than they should for packed-in EQs, and the Auto Tempo is going to be a big time saver for laying down tracks. I get that people are pissed about the OS requirement -- my main music rig is still a 2008 Mac Pro stuck on El Cap -- but I think people are taking for granted that this update is completely free. I remember the days of buying each Logic version for hundreds of dollars. When is the last time you had to pay for an update to Logic? You could effectively buy a new Mac with the money Apple has saved us. There was a time when we didn't even know if Apple would continue to support Logic. Now people are complaining their eight year-old Mac won't run the latest greatest FREE update to Logic. We should feel lucky that Apple is still this dedicated to a pro audio tool like this; they could dump it and it wouldn't hurt their bottom line at all. But instead of just being in maintenance mode, Logic's progress is more vibrant than ever. I don't see how there can really be any room for complaining. The update is seriously impressive and the future of Logic Pro looks really bright.
  3. I have an aging 2008 MP that I was hoping to replace with a new Mac Pro, but it seems Apple is happy to let their professional desktop machines fade into the sunset along with their Cinema Display. I just wanted a new tower. Something upgradable. But I ended up getting a 15" 2.7 with the 1TB SSD. The price hurts. Much more than I paid for the 8-core MP. I could wait longer, but I don't know how much longer the MP will hold out. Already had to replace the dead FW port with a new card, and I've had major audio dropout issues since upgrading to El Cap, probably related to Apple abandoning FW, but perhaps also due to Apogee abandoning the FW Ensemble. So I need something, but this feels more like a hammer to the head.
  4. Thanks for reporting on that, Dave. Sounds like the Duet (and probably Ensemble) will continue to technically work for now, but the clock is ticking. Disappointing that Apogee is squandering the goodwill they could've had in this situation. I realize it's not their fault that Apple has abandoned FireWire, but considering the new Duet and Ensemble are far more expensive than their predecessors they could've cleared a bit of a path for existing owners.
  5. I received an email from Apogee explaining the compatibility situation with their FireWire devices: I was not aware that Apple had abandoned support for FireWire in El Cap, but Apogee's decision makes more sense now. They're offering a trade-in program for Duet and Ensemble FireWire devices, but sadly it's not a credit towards a Tbolt version; instead they're offering a Groove or One with trade-in.
  6. Yeah, it's BS that they are dropping the Duet and Ensemble FireWire units considering El Cap is basically a maintenance release. I hope at least these will still work on El Cap (anyone who tries, please report back) as I have an Ensemble and not willing to fork up the big bucks for the new Tbolt Ensemble just to have a working audio interface again. But, considering they need low-level drivers, I'm not holding much hope they'll still function.
  7. Yosemite has been a great upgrade so far. Apogee finally released a driver update for the discontinued Ensemble for compatibility with Mavericks and Yosemite, which finally seems to have solved the massive problems I've been having with losing connection to the Ensemble. Took them way too long, but glad to see they're still supporting a discontinued product.
  8. If i remember right the update was about 100 MB. Weird. Mine took just a few seconds to install, and I believe it said 800k. I don't have background updating turned on, either. It says 10.0.7 and the faders look like the new pictures, so hopefully it won't blow up on me.
  9. Is the 10.0.7 update really only ~880k? That seems rather small.
  10. Logic is so cheap now that I'm not sure how much Apple really cares about revenue from upselling GB users to Logic. It's not like they really try to push GB users to upgrade from within the app anyway. I doubt most GB users even know Logic exists. But hey, I guess compatibility between the two has gotta help someone out there..somewhere..
  11. I was really hoping they'd announce an update to Logic that supports Open CL (perhaps for offloading plugins onto the GPU), but if that's in the cards they sure want to leave us hanging. My 2008 Mac Pro is slowly aging and it's about time I upgraded, but I'm not sure I see the cost justification of the new Mac Pro for audio purposes. What's the feeling of everyone? Will you pull the trigger or migrate to a MacBook Pro, or....?
  12. Has anyone been using Logic X with the Mavericks betas? Wondering about device support such as the Apogee Ensemble and general audio driver stability...
  13. It's strange that Jony Ive let this out the door, as part of his job is to make sure all the products have a consistent aesthetic tone for the Apple brand. The mixer faders especially bug me. It's like all the other Apple products have gone on to form New Wave bands, but Logic Pro X didn't get the memo and walks in the room in an even more outrageous disco outfit shouting, "Hey dig it! Who wants to groove??"
  14. Try this: Signature on LP8 icon Ha thanks! Sadly the signature is gone with the mystery left unsolved.
  15. Does anyone know whose signature was in the Logic Pro icon? I'm afraid I don't know that bit of lore. Well, Logic Pro X's icon has done away with that, and now John Appleseed gets the platinum. Not even a signature, how boring!
