  1. Thanks. But I just need to pass on a figure for the mastering engineer. I think I'm OK now. Cheers!
  2. Thanks fuzzfilth. That gave me a Global Tempo of 125 which isn't as accurate. I just need a figure to give to the mastering engineer and I think I'm OK now. Thank you! Thanks David. That detects 125 too.
  3. I'm not sure I understand to be honest, though I think I'm OK now using a hardware synth for reference as I can tweak into pitch by ear. Thanks anyway!
  4. Actually, it's more complicated than that, as varispeed affects the pitch of the soft synth I'm using for reference. Aaaaarh!
  5. OK. Thanks. I was hoping to see the track cover 40 bars at 126 BPM. This is clearly not the easiest way of doing what I'm trying to do! So, another option. 1. Leave the varispeed alone and adjust project tempo so that the track fills 40 bars. 2. This is achieved with 125.662 BPM 3. I now know that the correction needed is 125.662/126 which is 0.9973 4. A bit shaky in my methodology, but I think that means varispeed of (1-0.9973) i.e. -0.27% It seems to bring things into concert pitch so, crossed fingers!
  6. Thanks David. Re: "Varispeed changes the tempo" It doesn't change the display of the project though?
  7. OK. I'm clearly not understanding how varispeed works, or am doing something daft! I have digitised some old analog masters and there's an issue with playback speed so am trying to correct. Fortunately, the vinyl releases have BPMs so I can use this as a reference and double-check with pitch. I did the following: 1. Cut out 40 bars of a track (i.e. by listening to the song not selecting 40 bars according to Logic default tempo!) 2. Set Logic tempo to correct BPM (126) for track. 3. Noted that track is slightly longer than 40 bars at this tempo so ascertained that track is playing back slightly slow. 4. Using varispeed (speed and pitch) to speed it up a little and thus expecting it to be shorter in relation to Logic ruler which is referencing correct BPM. When I get it to line up with 40 bars of Logic ruler, I know it's fine. 5. I can hear the change in speed/pitch but the track length doesn't change. What am I missing here? Is logic playing back faster but still displaying 126 BPM? Thanks!
  8. Sorry to piggy-back on to this discussion but thought it best not to start another thread.. I'm considering buying the 14" Macbook Pro M1 Pro. Is my understanding correct that I can use my RME UFX using an adapter lead only (best avoiding a hub)? Thank you!
  9. I guess the bit I don't get is that, as the UFX has taken the data from the DAT at the correct sample rate, what's determining the clocking in Logic, if indeed that's relevant. Maybe it's not. Sorry if I'm being a bit dense here but in an AtoD situation, I don't need to set the sample rate separately as the interface follows the DAW.
  10. Yes, I realise that. But clocking is about more than retaining sample rate, it also synchronises the two devices: DAT and UFX in this case?
  11. So, to make sure I've understood. If my interface is following the DAT at 48k, say, but Logic is set to 44.1k, then there will be an automatic sample-rate conversion taking place?
