  1. I just got a 2016 15" MacBook Pro. I'm coming from a 2013 MacBook Pro. Right now I have my Apogee Duet FireWire daisy chained to my OWC Mercury Elite external HD which runs into my 2013 15" MacBook Pro via a FireWire to Thunderbolt adapter. Now this 2016 15" MacBook Pro is USB-C. So that leads me to this question, what is the optimal way to connect my current peripherals to my new 2016 MacBook pro? I plan on purchasing a new apogee duet in a couple months along with a new external SSD HD. I'm curious on how I should hook it up once I make those purchases as well Thanks in advance for the help!
  2. I just updated to the latest 10.1.1 and I'm still having the issue. When I play the same track out of iTunes or something similar I can clearly hearing panning of instruments etc. When the same track is dragged & dropped / or imported into Logic I lose all of the panning, everything sounds crammed down the center. To answer your questions Atlas I don't have any plugins on the channel strip Nothing on the master output Monitoring from my KRK's and my DT 770's Thanks for the help so far!
  3. I don't know if dynamics is the right word to use but... When I drag and drop (and even when I import) an instrumental track into Logic Pro X the quality of the of the file is downgraded substantially. I lose all or nearly all panning that the track may have. I've tried both WAVs and MP3s. Is a certain setting the reason behind this? Sorry I'm not very technical and I've tried searching for a solution here and on google but I can't seem to figure out the issue. Thank you
  4. Can I get some recommendations on headphone amps? I would like to get some extra volume out of my Beyerdynamics I've been told to check out the Objective 2 by JDS Labs I'm looking to spend no more than $500 or $600 Thanks!
  5. Just revisiting this thread in case anyone else is in the same position and wondering what to do. I ended up getting a flawless 2013 15.4" Retina Macbook Pro with 512 SSD & 16GB Ram off of eBay for $1950. The seller purchased the computer a couple months prior but Apple started my Applecare first-year warranty at May 15 of this year (because it wasn't registered prior). So basically I've got a 2 week old computer for over $1K less than buying from Apple or even Best Buy. This computer is amazing and I'm beyond satisfied with my decision! By the way, thank you for your input aphexbeats! Now back to the music haha PS. I was planning on using my Samsung TV as a monitor while at home but I can't bare not to use this retina display haha it's too crisp
  6. What's up you guys, I need some assistance. If you could lend me your opinion that would be great. I'll try to be very specific here I'm deciding between a 15.4 " Retina Macbook Pro 2.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 - or - 27" iMac 3.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 My workflow in Logic isn't strenuous by any means. I record only vocals (maybe 25 tracks at the most) over a pre-mixed instrumental track. I send off my sessions to be mixed professionally (by professionally I mean by a friend in Canada haha). I do add some EQ, compression, and maybe a mastering plugin just to get a feel for the way the track will sound before I send it off. That's basically it. I work a little in photoshop and I web surf heavily, blogs, netflix, hulu, etc. I'm about to start traveling more; I own a Macbook Air but it isn't really good for much so I'd be selling it. I like the appeal of having just 1 machine. With the Macbook Pro I will probably hook it up to my 40" Samsung LED while at my desk so the Retina screen isn't a bonus there, I say that to say this, in anyone's experience do the fans kick on fairly easy with it closed hooked to an external monitor having a decent sized session open, a couple web pages, & Netflix playing? It may annoy me hearing the fans constantly if that's the case I know both of these machines are probably overkill but hey we gotta have our shiny toys right?!! Also, thanks in advance for any helpful commentary!
  7. After some detailed snooping through Google, I found out that you can just "Option" click the sound icon in your menu bar and that'll allow you to change your outputs and inputs without having to go through system preferences
  8. I used to use a program called SoundSource on Lion but no since my upgrade to Mountain Lion the program is no longer compatible. Can anyone recommend any other apps that would do the job? Something that runs in the menu bar would be great
  9. I'm running a SSL Alpha channel strip to my Apogee Duet. Should I use the phantom power at my preamp or after at my interface? Thank you in advance for any help!
  10. I borrowed an X Logic Alpha from a friend and I wondering how exactly do I run it to my Apogee Duet? I tried asking him but he hasn't replied yet
  11. Okay thank you for helping me with that! Could you possibly help answer my question also?
  12. I need someone to help me recognize if there is distortion on this track I made a thread previously but I believe it got deleted due to the link I used to host the song. Please any moderators, let me know if this is wrong again and I will use a different source, I seen others using DropBox so I imagine it's okay [soundcloud]http://soundcloud.com/itscarmine/03-blow-my-high-ml-2[/soundcloud]
  13. From a performance stand point, would both be about the same for my use? Recording vocals only, I get all production from outside producers
  14. Okay! Does it matter which type of these two hardrives I should buy? Or would each be about the same in my situation? Recording vocals only, I get all production from outside producers
