  1. LOL thank you - 808 cowbell it is! (Also, sorry about having your purge your YT history.)
  2. Hi all - trying to work on some remixes and I want to use this type of clicky, mallet-sounding percussion that clicks 4 times at 0:25 here: It's fairly common but I can't find a consistent name for it - upper register of a marimba mixed with a block? Thanks!
  3. Hi all - something has been bugging me. When I was using LP9, I remember being able to open up the Piano Roll, move my playhead and then being able to play chords on my keyboard and have the data appear wherever the playhead was. It was great because I'm not a great piano player, but could write my chord progressions to MIDI. My setup work totally fine otherwise - am I missing something in the LP10 options that is preventing me from doing the same thing?
  4. Hi all - I'm a songwriter who wants to improve my drum programming by studying MIDI drum loops in the Piano Roll. I purchased this MIDI pack from Toontrack based on the audio demos: https://www.toontrack.com/product/pop-midi/ I know it's intended for their suite of products (EZDrummer, etc.) but I thought I would import them into Logic and see what happened. It's works but the mapping of samples doesn't seem to work with any of the existing Logic presets. The kick and snare are there at C1 and D1 but there are other hits at C#2, E2 and F2, and not being a drummer, can't tell if those should be certain hi hats or toms, etc. What are my options? 1) Buy EZDrummer and import the MIDI loops into that - this will be the most accurate way of playing back the loops I bought 2) Create a Drummer track in Logic and then convert that to MIDI to study 3) Does anyone make MIDI drum loops that map exactly to Logic, like in Ultrabeat? Thank you!
  5. I just bought a MOTU Ultralite and have experienced none of the problems I've had with the 410. I think maybe I had some compability issues or something that affected the 410's performance. Onto the future!
  6. carrmarr, thanks for the response. Per chance, have you ever tried to record with your 410 without your external preamp? I just get the feeling that something else is amiss if I get such a poor quality recording. I've read numerous accounts of people using a standalone 410 and getting a clean audio recording. Also, does the preamp affect why recording my Motif produces bad quality? It is connected to the 410's input ins--do the preamps have anything to do with that? Just trying to figure out the issue with my setup since it doesn't seem to be the norm. Thanks.
  7. I have a Mac Dual 1.8 G5 with 2GB of RAM, running Logic 7 Pro with a M-Audio Firewire 410 interface, Studio Projects B1 condenser mic, and Motif 6 keyboard. My goal is to make R&B/pop demos myself, so I do not need too many inputs/outputs—vocals and a guitar will probably be it considering I use a lot of Logic’s virtual instruments. I’ve spent most of my time exploring Logic and developing my songwriting skills, but now need to address the glaring issue I have recording audio. When I attempt to record vocals, with the B1 set to 0db gain, I still have to crank the 410’s gain up to achieve a reasonable signal process level in Logic, and that results in a very noisy recording with an unacceptable amount of static. That said, it also produces an almost embarrassingly muddy vocal. Though I do not use a compressor or additional preamp, I’m under the impression that I should be able to achieve something decent even at this relatively cheap pricepoint of equipment. I have used both a generic XLR cable and Monster Standard 100 XLR with no difference, so I don’t believe the cable to be an issue. Moreover, I have an issue recording to audio from my Motif 6, which is directly connected to the 410 with instrument cables. There is a significant dropoff in audio quality when doing this. For example, my Motif’s PowerGrand piano present sounds clean and crisp if I access it from the Motif, but the moment I record to audio in Logic, the same piano becomes sounds small, grainy and “tinny” and therefore worthless to me. With regard to Logic’s buffer size, I have tried 512, 256, and 128 with no difference in the results and I am recording at 24-bit. In my novice head, the issue I have recording audio from my Motif suggests that the Firewire 410 is the culprit, considering that the B1 is widely considered to be a reliable budget mic, whereas the Firewire410 has many opponents. Also, I’ve tried turning unplugging all of the other electronics in the room in case the cables were picking up other signals, to no avail. Does anyone have any insights at this point? I am willing to throw money at the problem and replace the 410 with a MOTU Ultralite or upgrade to LP8 and get the Apogee Duet if the interface is indeed the problem. Thanks in advance.
  8. Hi all, Can anyone help me figure out how to do this kind of bass slide? I uploaded a small .wav file. I suspect you get a particular synth bass and do something with the pitch bend on the MIDI controller? If anyone knows of a particular present, say in the EXS24 presets? Thanks in advance! http://s24.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0U2C61GYKL78K17SVFYJGXDLAP
