  1. Still wishing Logic had this feature. Looks like even the $99 version of Cubase has it.
  2. Not that audio guys would want most of those upgrades. Personally the config I'd go for would be $2399 plus some third party ram.
  3. For audio software specifically, no question there are more issues than usual. But for the OS overall I have seen many reports calling it the most polished .0 release in years. In the case of audio, for the most part the issue is compatibility, not stability - plugins either seem to not run at all (either failing AU validation, or have code in folders that is no longer allowed), or run as well as they ever have.
  4. Weird that supposedly Firewire support is getting phased out considering that MOTU makes it sound like the FW is generally working fine for them and they're having issues with USB. http://www.motu.com/newsitems/motu-and-os-x-el-capitan
  5. Nice to have the hack but hopefully in Logic 10.2.1 unrated ones will default to zero stars (and allow the user the option to assign that) or at least provide a user option to set all unrated to zero. Obvious sign that it was a third party plugin that was bought out and dragged into Logic without making it fully "apple". Even spectrasonics and NI get star ratings right.
  6. WWDC on audio units here, there's a video and PDF. Intended for programmers and probably over most of our heads but may give some idea of new functionality. The big ones I noticed are running plugin code external to the host app (crashing plugin doesn't crash Logic) and along with that, it sounds like that may work better for distributing load over multiple cores. https://developer.apple.com/videos/wwdc/2015/?id=508 Some of the issues may be caused more by the new security SIP, disabling that may solve some problems.
  7. 9 shipped in 2009 and 9.1 in 2010. X came out in 2013 and all updates since then have been free. That's actually an incredibly long time between paid upgrades. When 9.1 was released, OS X was still on 10.6. Five newer versions of the OS have shipped since then. If someone really wants to stay with Logic 9 I don't think it's such a hardship to stay with OS X 10.10 or earlier. They can't go out of their way to support old software forever.
  8. If apple didn't care about audio production they would have just kept AU version 2 forever. I think it's the opposite, they genuinely want to improve the audio capabilities on mac but it's going to require some pain from developers. Looking at the WWDC stuff this year they made it very obvious that there were major changes to audio code. Some developers kept up with that and were ready, and others didn't even start testing their software until now. When software needs to be updated, there's only so much Apple can do to get developers to actually do it. For some, it takes the OS update actually coming out and breaking the software for the work to get done. It's possible that Apple could have come up with solutions that made for a smoother transition, I just don't agree with the notion of turning their back on the audio community.
  9. There are some major changes to AU and to the way the system behaves in general. AU updates are supposed to remain compatible but there are always growing pains. Hopefully these changes should bring improvements, both better stability as well as the possibility of more features for plugins. SIP or System Integrity Protection which includes things like limiting which directories software can install files into. Tech info here, for anyone interested in the nuts and bolts the full review is a long but good read. http://arstechnica.com/apple/2015/09/os-x-10-11-el-capitan-the-ars-technica-review/8/#h1 Also they updated the AU standard to version 3 (version 2 came out in 2002). Hosts are still supposed to be compatible with AU2 but seems like a potential source of the issues. Video and linked PDF from this years WWDC session about audio units. I haven't been through it all yet but I assume it's also long and technical. https://developer.apple.com/videos/wwdc/2015/?id=508
  10. SIP mandates that apps and plugins can only have data in certain folders. It seems like there are plugins and drivers (including things like iLok) that put data (often just things like presets, but still) in other places and SIP has the potential to cause at least some of the problems. Has anyone tried disabling SIP, and does it help with any of the issues? Not many have to use new OS right after release but one example is someone who has a hardware failure and has to buy a new mac which is only available with the latest OS. Having software not work can be a major issue. Certainly we can debate whether devs have an "obligation" to support an OS from day 1. But some are and some aren't, and the ones that do are more inclined to get my respect and my cash. At the very least, companies could give some info about what they know at this point. And it would be nice if that actually had some detail about what they need to fix and if they have a timeline when they're hoping to have it done. It's hard to give the benefit of the doubt that they started working on things, and not assume that they didn't start looking at it until now.
  11. Anyone know if disabling SIP fixes the issue with either the AUs not validating, or USB dongle problems? Seems like that is a pretty big source of potential issues and supposedly disabling it makes that behave like previous OS versions.
  12. I'm having a similar issue with midi velocities in the hyper draw section of a standalone piano roll window. When dragging up or down there's no update to the visual but when I let go it shows the updated velocities.
  13. Sure, that's plenty enough for Logic but the 40 gigs of Logic content could otherwise be used for 40 gigs of sample library content, which can really take advantage of the fast SSD. It's not that Logic isn't a priority, it's that the included content is just fine on a secondary disk and doesn't need the extra speed. It's possible to move that content now, but it will be better when Logic supports it natively. Hopefully in the next update.
  14. The reason I want to move it is because with a new Mac Pro I don't want to waste valuable fast SSD space on the logic content and would rather bump it off to another slower drive. I really hope they add that feature soon.
