  1. Yes, be nice to the terminal! She can be very dangerous.
  2. Yeah, I just organised them in such a way that was perfect, so I had to do it all again. :/ I worked out how to do the symbolic link and it worked (thank effing christ!). I probably didn't learn my lesson of not too rush into things though. lol One of my more common and continuous mistakes. lol I've never used terminal before though (used ms dos prompt on PC though). Took a while to get my head around it.
  3. Not sure. but I got a backup at least. Just a pain in the but. Though, I used terminal, and didnt read the whole way through. My bad. Found this though. Will do a proper backup before though.
  4. I tried making a symbolic link just on the desktop and it deleted my whole sample library! I probably cant get it back can I.
  5. You could always set the default preset to 0 % dry and 100 % wet. Would that work?
  6. Is there anyway to get Alias folders to work in the "All Files" browser in Logic Pro X like they did in Logic Pro 9? All I get is a little black paper icon with my alias files in my project folders. When I double click on it, nothing happens. Rather infuriating.
  7. The best way to create a kick drum from a sine wave it to use a synth with a self-oscillating filter. Meaning that when you turn the resonance up to a reasonable amount, it starts to create a tone (WITHOUT THE USE OF ANY OSCILLATORS). Then what you would do is modulation the filter using an ENV with no attack, a fast decay, no sustain and no release. This would modulate the self-oscillating filter to fall in pitch over time very quickly say from 10,000Hz to 50Hz depending on how you set the settings and modulation amounts. ES1 and ES2 do this rather well. One preset which has a great example of this is in the ES1 Library:ES1 Legacy>Electronic Percussion>Kick Drum - Q Attack Two 3rd party synths I know do a good job of making sin wave kicks are: Synapse Audio - EKS Pro http://www.synapse-audio.com/layout/screens/ekspro.jpg Intelligent Sounds & Music - BazzISM2 http://www.hitsquad.com/files/bazzism.png There is also a tutorial on how to use logic's ES1 to program your own kick drum. http://www.askaudiomag.com/articles/get-your-kicks-in-logic-pros-es1
  8. That would be very nice feature indeed! Because sometimes you forget about all the different plugins you have available to you.
  9. Yeah, it's strange, sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. Some days it happens once or twice, others its all the time. Could it be the case for dual screen displays?
  10. One of two ways, either through the keyboard shortcut or via the mouse. The pitch has been changed, that's not the problem. It's the note display in the piano roll. The display has a lag and sometimes doesn't update on the note change (but you can hear it) It never happened in Logic Pro 9, only X. Only happens when your doing it live, ie in a loop etc. I've got the latest version of OSX and logic too. While it isn't completely detrimental to my work, it is still quite annoying.
  11. Hi guys, I'm currently having this infrequent issue with logic. When I'm using the piano roll, there is this problem with the interface not updating. For example; when I change the pitch of a note it will display the same note until I deselect the region and select it again. Does anyone know if this is a bug, or something that can be fixed?
  12. One thing to add to the Osc start function is of it's pitfalls. If you are using the ES2 in unison mode the will cause all the voices to be played at the same time, so essentially you will lose the desired effect of unison. Where the whole idea around unison is to randomize the phase of the oscillators while stacking a number of voices over the to to get a big fat sound.
  13. I just downloaded your set of tunes. Being a producer of trance, hard dance, drum & bass etc. I can't really comment on genre specific techniques but I can definitely comment on the sound quality side of things. I listened to the track named 'Fly'. Love the break beat style drums there! A real nice tune. First things first... Compression. It does not need to go on every channel, it's generally only should be used to control the volume of a track if there is too much fluctuation of high and low volumes or if you want a track/channel to have a sustained/flat volume response. If a track/channel sound good dry leave it that way unless you occur problems later on in the mix. The overall volume of the track, say master gain is pretty low or at least the EQ curve could have more dominance on the lows. Generally when using EQ it is best to boost no more than say 6db, BUT... drastic settings can be used too. Ddon't just limit yourself on what people tell you & what you read. These 'producer rules' are not necessarily rule par say. More guidelines. If some thing sounds good. Keep it that way. I have started listening to the track 'HerionMuzak' The mixing is something left to be desired for this one... Definitely need some EQ cuts on the lows around 40-100 HZ on some of the tracks to c;ear out the muddy frequencies. 40-80Hz can even make you basses sound more bassy. And again I think you need to attenuate the highs a lot more. Alot of the recordings sound abit dry too... try adding some differnt effects treatment on them. From subtle to extreme. It all depemts on you taste and style. I'm listening to 'Let Me Be' now. Like the bass in this tune, though it could use a little bit-crushing to get that bass sounding a little more crunchy. After listening to your tunes, I really think the only thing you need to improve on those tunes to make them sound 'more professional' is by reducing the dynamic range (Waves L2 Ultra Maximizer does this real well and with great ease), attenuating the highs a bit more with some EQ & maybe even raising the gain of the bass might help. But, be sure you add some high pass filters/EQ's on the tracks/channels to get a more clearer sound..
  14. Thanks David. That is actually a free plugin in my collection... It's an ol' Muon Tau Bassline Freeware that was re-released for free on there facebook page! Occasionally I have a good browse for 'Good' freeware AU's though it's quite a challenge. http://www.muon-software.com/html/downloads.html http://www.muon-software.com/html/downloads.html
  15. I thought that might work... I must still have a little bit of tech support blood in me from my last place of employment. No probs happy to help, actually feels good that I help some one out!
