  1. I think I've found the source of the bug. If any kind of "follow tempo" function is used, it seems to break the clip length concept. Even after I tried to kill off variable tempo (tempo maps?) the bug remains. This doesn't surprise me, as in my very long Logic history (albeit, I've been away from it for many years), most of the automatic functions to accommodate "out of time" content by using variable tempo didn't really work. Others may have better experiences and maybe it just works better, but here it certainly seems to be the cause.
  2. Ok, at least it is a bug! (and I'm not crazy). I never remember this as an issue (if you check my signature, I go way back with Logic, but really haven't used it much since the Apple redesign, so big route back for me). Thank you so much for helping, we (it's my daughter's music) really appreciate it. Good for her to see how a community works online. Best, John
  3. Well, I'm trying anything I can! 😀 I'm trying to make that into a 2 bar loop, when Logic seems to need it to be a 3 bar loop, which of course, doesn't loop correctly from a musical point of view. You said you got it to work with Clip Length off, correct? And you were able to make a 2 bar loop that looped, with the anticipated beat 1? Would you post your working file? Maybe that would help me. Thanks for hanging in on this!
  4. I don't know how to get that to work - I can't seem to get a 2 bar region with a note that extends past (or before) the region limits. If I make the region into a 2 bar, as soon as the end or beginning of the region moves past the note, that note disappears. This is true whether I have Clip Length on or off 😞 See my bar 19. If I drag the beginning of that to bar 20, that first long note disappears... (my cycle is set to the 2 bar phrase I want to repeat)
  5. Thanks everyone for digging in. The attached project should help illustrate the issue. I've also included a workaround which is to divide the line into 2 overlapping bars. This works, but I bet there is a better way to do it. Best, John Super Rainy Day.zip
  6. I tried that, but it didn't work. Can you confirm that you can have a note that sustains past the end of the region and loop that? I can't seem to get that to work. Thanks
  7. It is, but since it's a 2 bar phrase (albeit one that goes over the bar line) I'd like to loop it. I guess, seeing your post, that I could just use repeat objects and just string it out, but the ideal would be to trim it to the 2 bar phrase that it is musically, and be able to loop it.
  8. Hi, I was so excited to try this, but it's not working. I realize that a visual is going to help. Please note the below is unquantized, but that's what we want musically. We like the timing. The problem is the sustained note across the bar. It's a 2 bar phrase, but it starts ahead of beat 1.
  9. Not sure how to manage this. I write a 2 bar bass line, the line musically starts with, say, a 3 8th note pickup into beat 4 and that sustains into the first bar. I can understand how to mange the first bar of this, but how do I get this to loop? Re-attacking the note causes it to sound again. Is the secret overlapping loops? Hope the explanation is clear. Thanks, John
  10. Should have tried more things before posting. Metric Halo Ethernet Driver update solved this. Now 3.4ms at 32 samples, 44.1k song setting I haven't done much with my system/Logic in a long time, but I upgraded my ULN-2 to use have Ethernet direct link. Anyone sees use this combination? My son has a Volt 2 and he gets around 7ms.
  11. If you are looking to bring some of that SCSI warmth back into your recordings (I know I am!) then ScuzzItUp® is being ported over to 64bit AU so it will run with Logic Pro X. Just keeping the joke going!
  12. There were snapshots pre-Logic 6? I cannot remember... what were they called? Something to do with the project manager maybe? I never used it.... Mixer snapshots, and you could choose what would get remembered. Great for my workflow and creating "turn on a dime" complete changes to the sound of the music. I would mix in sections and have these incredibly abrupt changes in timbre. (I know, but that was my thing...) In fact, you had to plan in the time it took the mixer to pop to all the new settings. I don't think it worked for plug in settings, but duplicating tracks/channel strips and muting would do the same thing. Now I just do it all as bounces, but not as fun. Maybe this ended in Logic 5. I know I was using it in 1998-9 and I was always current in Logic until L8.
  13. I guess this announcement is what it takes for me to even think about Logic and visit the forum - no offense meant, it's just that my life interests have changed and I'm not making music (or even spending much time) with a computer these days. But when I get back into it.... which will probably be in a few years everything will have changed again. I'm just happy that my Metric Halo ULN-2 basically works well as a standalone preamp, converter and clock, and with it's Toslink, spidf, and WC connectors, I feel my investment is protected. Make note of this, y'all. Enough about me, what about Logic X? My opinion is that the eye candy sells software and it's not going away, but if you know anything about product development cycles, a lot of these decisions were probably made while Apple was heading in the skeumorphic UI direction. Now things have changed. I personally loved the "old" Waves plug ins with the simple grey interface, mostly sliders instead of "knobs" and direct numeric input of most parameters. The visual amp sims and stompboxes? Close your eyes and toggle the bypass switch and they sound like distortion/high boost/phaser, whatever... I'd rather have a consistent interface and more power to the CPU being used for sound, not visual. That said, those images $ell software. If I was working with Logic today, I'd consider an upgrade after a few bugfix releases and some hesitation because I am very happy and stable on 10.6.8 for the following reasons: ipad Remote - if it works, of course. Alternatives - I've needed snapshots since it was removed from Logic 6. Huge part of my workflow that I had to work around with Save As and bounces. This may be it, but it may be the same as Save a Copy, which saves your current work under a name you give it, but keeps the current doc open. Like Save As and then opening the one you Saved As to keep working. Anyone have input on that? Drummer I've actually been thinking about something like this after 20+ years of programming drums from early drum machines (808) to Logic. I want a songwriter accompanist drummer and was researching Drumcore and others, so this would be worth the $200.00 to me. I think that Apple did a good job of adding a variety of features that will attract both new and existing users, pro, prosumer, and beginners to go for this at 200 bucks. There will probably some promise that will attract you to switch. I know that I left my very comfortable and skilled workflow in Logic 7 because I wanted flex and in the end, I don't use flex much.
  14. Hi, Thanks David, That was the answer I was looking for with my question. Not clear in the Logic Manual what that would look like. I wish that Alexfsu would have appended his question onto this current post - I'll do so for the sake of future searches. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=79674&p=454387&hilit=goniometer#p454387 Thanks, John
  15. Hi, I agree with rida2: (at least we can agree it's confusing, because I'm Googling it...) "So the manual is wrong and needs to be re-worded because it says" Phase problems are easily spotted as trace cancellations along the center line M".-which is wrong and/or misleading" I have great correlation, but my goniometer is pretty much all on the vertical axis. That led me to confusion after reading the manual - which seems to say that all on the vertical axis is a problem condition, but all the way to the right/in the blue on the correlation meter means good. BTW, I'm completely in the box, so no need to test hardware. Oh, and my music sounds great, it's just my meters that sound bad Thanks, John
