  1. Hi there Folks, I'm recording a slow piano song for Christmas. It's a mash up of "Lonely This Christmas" & "Hallelujah". So a slow tempo of about 60bpm. I want to score it out in 12/8 and not 4/4 so I don't have to think about triplets. So - how do I make Logic think that I'm playing in 12/8. I recorded the four bar intro then stopped the take. And now when I record again, Smart Tempo Analysis, thinks that the same piece of music is only two bars but a totally different tempo! Even though they sound the same. So I suppose that Logic is treating the 8th notes differently in both takes. What's going on? Also - Which Logic drummer should I use to replicate the "Lonely This Christmas" kind of feel? Thanks for any help.
  2. Thanks for the help. Following on from your advice, here's how I did it. I put in an initial tempo marking of 70bpm just to give Logic a nudge in the right direction. It can sometimes get confused and think it's double time and set the tempo at 140. Opened the song into Logic using Adapt Tempo. In the Global Tempo map I added a time signature of 3/4 (at bar 16 i think) then added another at bar 17 to take it back to 4/4 Then went into the Smart Tempo Editor and zoomed in on the Beat Markers. There was quite a bit a fiddly stuff getting the Down Beat Markers to line up with the audio, as there are some points in the song without any hookable transients on the beat. Then Apply Changes. Then Apply Region Tempo To Project Tempo in the Edit pop-up menu. It's interesting (at least to me) to see in the tempo track just how much they hold back in the a capella section of each chorus, making us 'wait' for the release of the instrumental bit which leads us back to the usual tempo of the verse. thanks for your help in this. It is much appreciated. 👍
  3. Just to clarify, do you mean changing from 4/4 to 3/4 in the Global Time Signature Display, or the Signature Display in the Smart Tempo Editor? Thanks
  4. The Weight - by Robbie Robertson and the Band has a beat 'missing' at the end of its four bar chorus. (There are three bars of 4/4 then a bar of 3/4.) The smart tempo function of Logic misreads it as 4 bars of 4/4. Two at 70bpm then a jump of tempo to about 90bpm then back to the final bar of 70bpm. See pic. There aren't many strong transients for Logic to grab onto which is possibly why it's failing here. It does a marvellous job of following the tempo up and down in the rest of the song it just can't grasp that there must be a 3/4 bar at the end of the chorus to accommodate the missing beat. To be fair to Logic, a lot of my musician friends are equally ignorant of this! I've tried to use the Down Beat Hints and Beat Hints but I can't get rid of the extra beat. Any thoughts would be very grateful. Andy
  5. Haha! That's good advice. I just checked Apple and they said that anything after 2020 won't run this but I tried it anyway with various cables sticking in lots of different ports but to no avail. Looks like the i-mac is for the bin. Shame. It's still a decent bit of kit as a "My First Desktop" gift for an unfavoured 3rd or 4th child! Thanks for the quick responses.
  6. Thanks for the reply. It may be that the old iMac has reached it's useful end as a processor however I think I could possibly hook it up as an extra monitor. Would that work? That way when I'm at home (in the Shed) I can attach the macbook into the setup (keyboard/apollo/speakers/extra monitor etc) but when I'm 'away' I can just remove the macbook and leave the other gear setup.
  7. During the Covid/Lockdowns break I got divorced sold my house and moved on to pastures new. Good news is I got a new laptop! MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports) Processor - 2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 Memory - 16 GB 3733 MHz LPDDR4X I'm running Monterey 12.1.1 and Logic 10.7.2 My i-Mac is 2011 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 | 8GB RAM | OS X 10.9 | Logic Pro 10.4 I'm using the UA Apollo Twin So, I'm finally setting up the i-Mac from the Shed and after nearly two years in storage, it's looking a little tired. Apple (along with every other tech company) has a policy of built-in obsolescence so I'm concerned that pretty soon the iMac and/or the Apollo Twin will be out of date. What's my best policy to keep my gear from one step ahead of Apple's ruthless 'bricking' policy. Thanks Andy
  8. Great idea! This seems to be working. Thanks! Once again I'm astounded by the collective knowledge of folks on this forum and for their willingness to help. Even the most obscure or seemingly trivial issue. Sometimes you just need someone to say "I do it like this..." Cheers. It seems to be wine oclock now.
  9. Hi there, I've got a tablature and a notation score set up for a midi region containing bassline. This plays along with the audio region of the bass so my I can play along muting the midi and/or the existing audio bass track So, A) How do I alter individual notes so that they play on say the D string (6th fret) rather than the first G string (1st fret). Dragging the note merely alters the pitch. B) How do I alter the layout of the score view so that the TAB score sits underneath the Notation score. At the moment the TAB is above the Notation. Thanks
  10. Hi there, I recorded a my band's live set (guitar, bass, vocals, 4 drum mics) and the whole thing is 2 hour long sets in one file. I've tried to split the HUGE file down into manageable chunks of individual songs, however the unused sections are still in the Project files folder. I want to trim down the massive set down into 30 small packages only containing each song and not the legacy of the whole gig. Thanks AM
  11. OK. Sounds simple but... I've deleted (and trashed) all the unused files but the whole of the Parent file still shows in the Project Audio Browser. It's mostly greyed out but the small part I'm using is blue. And, when I open the file in the Smart Editor, the whole of the Parent file is still there albeit greyed out but that's 120 bars of annoyance when I only need to work on the 8 bars of the coda. Do I need to export the Coda Region as a separate file, rename it, then import it again? Or is there an easier way? Thanks again for your help. AM
  12. Of course! So simple when you know the answer. Thanks for the quick response. AM
  13. Hi folks, I've imported a song into the tracks pane and it's appearing as a region there. I've trimmed away the main body of a song as I'm just using the coda. However as this a non-destructive action the whole parent file still shows in Smart Tempo editor. This is making editing really annoying as the whole of the song is still 'remembered'. How do I destructively separate the small coda from the rest of the song? thanks AM
  14. Hi there, I've got a reading of slam poetry that I want to fit to some existing audio. What's the best way of syncing the words to the music? The Words have an implied rhythm but the Poet speeds up and slows down. I want to iron out the bigger 'tempo' changes in the text and fit it into the beat. I suspect I'll have to cut it up into one-line segments which roughly correspond to a bar of the music. What's the best way to get logic to fit the two things together? Thanks AM
  15. hi there, I want to make a quick 'video' of my Logic project. Is there a way to capture what's happening on the screen inside the Logic platform with the audio embedded into the file. Thanks AM
