  1. Does it matter where I keep my libraries? for example, does logic stream (read) library data on the fly or does it store it in RAM - should I not keep my libraries on the same drive I'm writing too? Should Logic, Libraries, Project all be on separate drives, or can they be combined?
  2. I have a 2011 macbook pro, I just put 16GB of RAM in, and now I'd like to get my Hard Disk sorted - What should I do to get the biggest performance gains? I have some money to put into this machine and I'd like to configure with Logic's performance as my number one priority. The music that I do can be pretty heavy with virtual machines and Kontakt Libraries, I currently have my libraries on external firewire800 drive, and my projects are on my internal drive. There are a lot of options out there, I can replace my Internal Spinning Disk with an SSD, and Run OS/ Logic on that I can get an external SSD/thunderbolt and stream my libraries from there (would this have any benefit) I can replace my optical drive with an SSD and keep my internal spinning disk for my libraries I could replace both hard drives with SSDs...etc. etc- If all my samples are on SSD, will they load a lot quicker, If my project is on an SSD but Logic is on a spinning disk, will I even see that big of increase on read/write speeds - etc. etc. what would you do in my position Evan
  3. Something that is so frustrating to me is that when I use flex time (which I think is fantastic!) most of the time there is a little "pop" that happens right where the flex marker is (especially on vocals) The only way to get around this is to hold in "option" when the curser is above the flex marker and move it slightly to the left or right until the pop is gone. Sometimes this takes me a dozen tries to find the right spot, and it's very frustrating. Has anyone figured out a better way to avoid pops using flex time. One thing that I have been really loving is syncing doubled vocal tracks using the "create template" in the quantizing menu, but I usually have to go in and check all the flex markers so that there isn't popping. It's something that if it worked right, it would save me so much time, but I end up just spending just as much time tweaking the markers. Also - I have tried using the other flex modes like polyphonic etc. Vocalign - Audiosuite in protools is so freakin fast and sounds so good. If Logic's flex time gets fixed to be able quickly use groove templates and have them not "pop" it would be competitive with the PT method.
  4. Hey David, I exported my key commands, and I also made an excel (and numbers) spreadsheet documenting the changes - however, I was unable to load them to the file sharing section... So I was wondering if you have an email I could send these files to? Evan
  5. Sure - I'll make a list documenting some of the changes I made - Also to be fair - I didn't mention any features that PT really blows at - but here are a few that most people already know: no bounce in place - no channel strip settings - (are you kidding?!) there is a way to import data, but Logic handles this wayyyy better. SO annoying not to have those
  6. Hello friends, I've been an exclusive Logic user since 7.2, and have been a part of this forum since then (not the most active participant, but anyway) I decided to Learn good ol' Pro Tools in February and have been only using it, deciding no matter how frustrating it would be, that would be the only way to learn it. And that's what I did. I hated it at first, but after I got the hang of it, I dig Pro Tools, it's not so bad. BUT!... I have decided that I like Logic better, and I think that's what I'm gonna stick with from now on. I'm glad I learned PT, and feel comfortable with it (and all it's friggin' key commands) yeah yeah yeah, there are things in PT that I think are a little better than Logic, and vise-versa. However the only thing that has really annoying the s&^% pants out of me is - Not being able to select multiple tracks in the arrange and move them, AND not being able to move tracks around in the mixer. HOLY FREAK. that is one thing that seems so simple, and the only thing that I really wish they would change. One thing I have learned in this process is how amazing key commands can be. they have really enhanced my workflow. I ended up making a key command set that mirrors PT key commands. I started out with Logic's PT key command template, but I realized there are many things that the Logic set has wrong, So I tweaked a few things here and there to make it more accurate, and in some cases more comfortable and workflow enhancing. If anyone is interested, I would be glad to share them, if there are fellow hybrid DAW folks out there that don't wanna have to memorize 2 sets of key commands. ( I actually kind of like the fact that PT doesn't allow you to change key commands, because then you can feel comfortable in anyone's studio) Anyway, that's the scoop, I'm glad to be back, and I don't even care at this point if Logic 10 comes out, I just wanna see at least an update that solves the "moving tracks" problem. (i had 10 huge sessions I imported that I had to organize in the last couple days, and it really has been a PITA! haha) Peace out homies, Evan
  7. awesome, thanks for the tip David - I've been using the transform to do this, but your way makes it so much easier.
  8. I get frustrated too with some of the snapping or lack there-of within logic. what's worked for me: If I'm trimming a region - use the marquee tool to highlight the selection you want to delete or whatever. for some reason the marquee tool seems to snap a lot better. for example, if I want to trim a region's edge to beat one, because it's hanging a little before beat one. the marquee tool works great for stuff like that. Or if you want to copy a few measures of a region and paste- highlight with the marquee and then option-drag the selection, etc. I have a key command setup to switch between "Smart" and "Beat" snap modes. smart works awesome when you are zoomed far out. Beat mode i find very usual in other situations. (i have smart mode set to F2 and beat mode to F4 to reflect Pro Tools slip and grid modes) I don't use "Overlap" mode anymore, I use "No Overlap" for some reason it feels like it snaps better...might just be me though. Anyway, that's all - don't know if it's helpful, but try it out
  9. Sounds awesome - I'd like to go to the next one - Where can I go to get notified (like an email or something) when the next one is happening. I could've gone last night, but I didn't find out until now, doohhh
  10. Here's the "official" logic x rumor thread. although it's been pretty quiet since they released the 9.1.7 update. http://www.logicprohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=75278&start=240
  11. I actually have rechargeable ones in mine too - The battery thing is actually not the main reason I want a wired version. The main reason is because it's jumpy and glitchy especially when the computer has to work hard (and work hard it does when I'm in Logic) Does anyone else experience this? It feels a little laggy over all compared to my trackball and just not smooth. If it were wired I wouldn't have to worry about the bluetooth connection being disrupted, etc.
  12. No, guys, I'm being serious, I really started a petition. Shivermetimbers- In the related article you posted, there is a place that says "Let Apple Know" and it takes you to the Apple Product Feedback page, but I can't find the magic track pad on there? All that's on there is the magic mouse. So anyway, that's why I started the petition here: http://www.change.org/petitions/apple-make-a-wired-version-of-the-magic-trackpad In fact, I just had a guitar student over here today that works at the apple store, and I had him try out my trackpad, and he was like "what the f***! I'd be pissed if my trackpad was this glitchy (this is the 2nd trackpad I've had btw, and both have had problems). He was like "I'd be at the apple store every day complaining about this". Anyway, I know it's not like the end of the world. Some people's MTP's work great, some don't. but everyone's MTP eats batteries like they are crunchberries, and I bet the tracking would be smooth for everyone and even more precise if they made a wired version. point is, it took me like 1 minute to make a petition, and I know it's kind of jokey, but what else can I do? haha!
  13. Haha! I guess I was being a little tricky with the title - Interesting note, I put a post about this on the apple forums, and Apple took it down - ??? kinda surprised. They wrote me a message saying something like they stamp out posts about rumors of Apple products they haven't released yet. I wish I remember what the email said, but i deleted it. Anyway, maybe it's a sign they are actually going to release one??? we can only hope
  14. This is kind of silly but I don't care: I like the magic trackpad, but it's too glitchy for me to use in logic. The bluetooth is unstable, and I've tried out 2 of them. Couldn't find a place to leave feedback for apple to make a wired version so I started this petition: http://www.change.org/petitions/apple-make-a-wired-version-of-the-magic-trackpad# Don't know if any of you feel the same way, but thought I'd share anyway, Evan
