  1. I recently helped debug someone that had similar trouble with this. The problem was that he was not CONTINUING to hold down the command key from steps 2 into and PAST step 3. When pasting with command-V, DON’T RELEASE THE COMMAND KEY UNTIL YOU SEE THE POP UP MENU. Press and release the V key to paste your data, then, while CONTINUING to hold down the command key, select your target automation parameter, then the menu pops up, and THEN you can release the command key.
  2. This is how I select just a section of automation points and change the values in the Event list (although I also want to be able to scale them, not just add or subtract values in a linear fashion -- Transform is likely the way to go for scaling). 1) In the Main window, select your MIDI region, press a for automation mode, and zoom in to the area you want to edit. 2) Open the event pane and make sure you're viewing the midi note and automation events. 3) In the midi region, while holding down the Shift key, click and drag across the section of points you want. You can select multiple, discontinuous sections by highlighting one section, releasing the shift key and mouse, then repeat for the 2nd section, 3rd section, etc. These events all become highlighted in events list. Release the shift key and mouse after selecting your final section. Have to get this next part right, otherwise the events you want will be de-selected. 4) Hold the shift key, and in events list, click ONE of the highlighted events -- the highlight for all selected events will now change color and turn blue. Release the shift key. 5) Click on the Val column for one event and drag up or down. ALL of the event values change.
  3. Thank you all for this thorough discussion. Thanks Ace for your solution -- I'd worked out and have been using portions of that, but you've got the entire puzzle piece layed out. And thanks David for the Beat Mapping tip (and for ALL of your amazing help over the years) -- every time I can save minutes with a refined tech solution means more minutes I can spend getting music done.

    movie freezing

I still have this issue as well. Have to close and reopen the project. Movie excerpt is twice as long as the cue. Next time I'll try trimming the movie length. 10.3.3 OSX 10.11.6 mac pro early 2009
  5. Ok, I got it now -- thanks for the clarification. I'll still need at least a full backup machine before I consider embarking on that -- this is my main production rig.
  6. I'm curious, skijumptoes: You used a hack to update to Sierra (or High Sierra) and wrote "Mine (2008) is running great." But later you decided to stop using Logic altogether due to the 10.4 bugs... are others with newer Macs also experiencing the bugs? Might some of your troubles be due to the hack OS update? I have an older Mac Pro, like you, and was tempted by the hack/update, but since I've got a stable system, I'm not going to risk it. So I'll need either a new Mac (preferable) or an additional older one to experiment with, before I'll get to try 10.4.
  7. gigijackal, sad to hear that you're having a logic X issue though. And ironically, with 48K. Since we want 48K for film, I'd much rather have the issue with 44.1 and have 48K work. I've not yet jumped to Logic X myself though (will be soon), so I can't check out your issue myself.
  8. The problem is likely to be your attempted use of Export audio to Movie when running Logic 9 in 64-0 bit mode. Ski will tell you that Logic 9 includes the feature in 32-bit mode, but excludes it in 64-bit mode (and he provides multiple workarounds on http://www.macprovideo.com -- thanks Ski !) Per this apple site discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/message/22498923#22498923 "The reason Logic 9 couldn't export audio to movies was Quicktime Pro still being 32 bit." and "It's fixed in LPX. And no, it no longer relies on QuickTime for this feature."
  9. Sure you can: Piano Roll or Mixer from the Windows menu.
  10. If it helps any, Logic 8 will also input Windows lso projects. I have a lot of stuff going back to V5.5 on Windows. Channel setups, etc., don't necessarily import correctly though, so you do have to spend some time fixing it up. Haven't tried with Logic 9. Sorry that I don't have an old copy for you, all my licensing has been via upgrades -- wouldn't be ethical. Tom
  11. If you want to bounce the entire mix then select Bounce Mix from the Region menu. In the Bounce Mix to Hard Disk dialog box, select your desired format (Wav) from the Format selection list at the bottom middle-left (defaults to AIFF). Click Save, etc. If you only want to bounce a region, then select the desired region, select Bounce Region from the Region menu, and proceed in the same manner. Tom
  12. Another note -- I inadvertently moved CURRENT data (volume) to region instead of ALL data as you'd recommended, then found that volumes weren't working everywhere, then did an undo on the data move, and NOW the automation is working again. (The automation stopped working on 6 tracks after I'd frozen them). I'll keep the spare tracks around, in case it happens again. Tom
  13. Wow, I don't know how I've been lucky so far, but I just got hit with this one. Resulted in hours of struggling. Ski -- now I truly know what you meant when you were complaining about Apple's not admitting when they have bugs. Frustrating to think that the kind of bugs that can potentially blow a deadline won't pull info from Apple so that we'd have some idea of whether there's a bugfix coming. Thank you SO MUCH for your workarounds (a true testimony to your ingenuity and diligence). The "move all track-based automation to region-based automation" solution is working. Tom
  14. Here's a pretty good article on it: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/aug07/articles/logictech_0807.htm I personally like to convert my rex files and use them in Stylus RMX, but I remember seeing Logic clinics years ago where Logic did a good job of it in conjunction with EXS 24. You can also convert rrx2 files into apple loops, as mentioned here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1686203&tstart=1590 Tom
  15. Thanks again Peter! Your presentation was fantastic, and so was your EXS24 class the prior Friday. And though I couldn't make your Synth class on Sat. and Sun., I'm very much looking forward to your return out here so that I can attend the next one. Tom
