  1. Hello to Rodrigo, Jakob and David - thanks so much for posting suggestions - David is on the money, it turned out to be a control surface conflict. But what crazy symptoms, I was looking everywhere else but there! Thanks again guys!!!
  2. ...oh, just found something else, EXS24 is self oscillating in a strange manner......blimey, this is a bit of a worry - no idea if they are connected.... Mac Pro 10.11.6 (early 2009) Logic 10.3.3 - wondering if there is any issue there?
  3. Hi all, since I updated to 10.3 I've found that everytime I record a midi region there is a low (C-2) note recording in the manner of a metronome - this even if I turn off all the metronome settings - I cannot imagine where it's coming from, and something I've never experienced before. It's not even the note in the metronome settings. I have very little connected to the computer as I pretty much work in the box, but I have disconnected my RME Fireface 802 and also the Komplete Control S88. I promise I've spent a good hour two going through and through midi and metronome settings, but I'm confounded! Anyone have any bright ideas? I'm sure I'm doing something stupid..... all best wishes, Barrie
  4. Solved my situation in the end with a Radeon HD4870 card, had to move my UAD card up a slot, but now it's in it runs silently and the Mac never breaks into even the tiniest bit of a sweat - QTs I'm working to look pristine on the big screen - very happy, it was worth getting an extra card I think. Thanks again for the help on getting my head round the options and having a great solution. Barrie
  5. Will let you know how it pans out - I live right near an Apple Store so hope to get the adapter tomorrow, lots of great and helpful info - thanks! B
  6. I think that might well do it for me!! Sorry - I've gone a bit muso and got my connectors in a muddle - they aren't something I worry about everyday, I have DVi and Mini Display outs on the Mac! I will report back!! many thanks again! B
  7. Wow - thanks for the quick response, my bad on not finding this thread when I searched the forum, and also for not being specific about my system. Mac Pro OSX 10.6.8 2x2.93 Ghz Quad Intel Xeon 16 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 I have the one Mini Display, one VGA card GT120, second monitor connected to the Mini Display with a VGA adapter. The thing is, I really want to hook up a TV via HDMI, or at the very least USB, so I'm looking for a solution that will do that. The other thread is really interesting though - many thanks - will read and absorb! Barrie
  8. I just wondered how folks are driving a third monitor with Logic - I have a HD TV that I'd like to hook up by HDMI as well as my two Samsung SA450s which are using the two ports. I should point out that I'm midway through a series that will last until the summer and I'm really reluctant to upgrade from my current software as it's all as stable as can be and I can't stand any nasty surprises until it's all over - I'm on OSX 10.6.8 and running Logic 9.1.8 64 bit. What's everyone using, many thanks! Barrie
  9. Just in case anyone else comes across this, my work around - and I hope I'm not going to spook it by writing this - is to start Logic itself every morning as I start work. All seems to behave itself then. If I open Logic via a project, then I seem to get the problem mentioned above. Hope that helps someone.. B
  10. Thanks for getting back to me David - I've got a few projects on at the moment so I can't quite be sure - I need to spend a bit of time testing out this theory - but I think it seemed to happen more on a project I'd used as a template for many episodes. When I started a NEW project from scratch yesterday it didn't seem to happen. It was very odd, you know you said look at the set up page? Well sometimes you could see the focusrite's name on the port selector but if you tried to get into the drop menu it was just frozen, and sometimes clicking on the drop menu showed up "All" but again with a frozen drop menu. Re-start Logic and with luck everything worked fine again. Kind of doesn't make sense I realise, as we're talking about preferences rather that some project specific setting.... Oh well, I will report back on my findings! Can programmes like Logic corrupt a little bit over time? I suppose that's possible - perhaps a re-install or an upgrade is in order... Really appreciate your input David, many thanks Barrie
  11. At the risk of sounding like an advert I'm liking the Focusrite 2802 desk to replace my ageing big digital desk, interaction with Logic seems to be good. But I'm coming up with a bit of buggy behaviour and I just wondered if anyone had come across it with their control surfaces. I'm on Logic 9.1.8 (I know - and that may be the answer, but I've been on a couple of long running series and I'm reluctant to change until I have a break) and Mac Pro 10.6.8. Once I've selected the focusrite 2802 in the preferences / control surfaces / set up page via the drop menu everything is fine, but regularly on opening a project I've already been working on I get a 'HUI device missing' message, and on going back to the set up page the drop down menus are frozen or won't open up. If I restart Logic I can generally find the menus again and select the 2802 and we're off sweet as you like again. Any of you clever people got any thoughts about this? regards Barrie
  12. Interesting triplets, I will check. The Audio drive is internal and was installed with (at the same time) Logic by a top supplier here in UK, so I hope not but you never know!! Thanks!! Barrie
  13. Thankyou both guys for getting back. Classic lack of basic information, sorry! In this particular case I was reworking an older project for a client - made in my pre intel G5 in Logic 7 or 8 - can't remember. I got all the instrument plug ins up and running (replacing a couple that don't run any more on the intel) and when I went to find the .aif audio files that were now on a different drive (just short effects not extensive vocal takes - and at same sample rate as project) by clicking on the region and using the directory, the minute I highlit the relevant files Logic crashed each time, for each file. Also when trying to import in the bin and when dragging. Got there in the end one at a time and a lot of furious saving! Now, this might be because it's an old project in a newer computer, but I'm pretty sure I've had this problem more recently. I guess I'll wait for another incident and get some more info for you. Current system - OSX 10.6.4 2x2.93 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 12 GB 1066 Mhz DDR3 thanks again, Barrie
  14. Anybody else get a Logic crash when importing audio files to a project? Doesn't always happen, but I've had it when dragging a file into arrange or audio bin, and also when importing a file in the bin in the 'add new audio file' way. It's quite possible that I'm pushing Logic hard anyway at this point, some projects have a lot going on - but I wouldn't have expected that to affect audio. Never had this before 9 as far as I can remember (long time Logic addict here) I can't obviously see any other reference to this on the forum, so excuse me if it's been discussed before. best Barrie
