  1. Gang Used the search engine but there are so many old topics on this issue. So I'm asking the wise elders directly.... Are the new 12 core macs of any help to Logic users? (I have two 8-thread macs from 2008 and 2009 and I got them playing pretty nicely and 64 bit has made a huge difference. I DONT plan to go to Lion or thunderbolt for reasons of many third party programs that I love.) Thanks Amin
  2. Bloody Annoying! Thank you everyone for this forum! Amin
  3. The only time I remember seeing files like this was when I created some files in PT with really long names then imported them into Logic. When the Logic sequence saved and restarted Logic couldn't find them cause it internally renamed them to have weird numbers at the end. your example of "(Palm Muted Electric Bass)#90A117" may be longer than Logic allows (31 characters as I recall.) So in your Garageband session you may have to rename and THEN re-xport your consolidated files. my .02 Good Luck.
  4. In no particular order.... 1 Offline bounce is a lie. Like Santa, the Easter Bunny or fair voting. There's always something midi or plug in based that will act differently at high speed. Also the motto of good audio engineering says bounce in realtime and listen to your final product. 2. Most film composers (myself included) set up a secondary computer for the "big orch" stuff that just sits there and rarely changes from cue to cue. Then on the main computer the Logic sequence (and sometimes a bidule add on) contains the custom sounds and plug ins for that cue. Keeps the reloading to a minimum. And that Kontakt memory manager is FRIGGIN amazing. Way to go NI. 3 Logic was originally made by Emagic and bought by Apple. It was THE midi sequencer of the decade but audio had not really happened yet. Between audio add ons and Apple engineers trying to simplify without really knowing how the program works this is the result. However Logic 9 and the 64 bit engines (once fully implemented) is pretty amazing for the money and for "out of the box" film writing it's a great toolset. But if you wanna go really big with lots of control and mixing savinness and post-production compatibility I'd consider Pro Tools. 4 This forum is run by volunteers and they should all get medals and money for it. David, and Edgar and Ski and Fader8 and many others have made Logic the success it is while Apple collects the money and doesn't even bother coming to conventions any more. Sounding like Dr McCoy so I'll sign off now. You will make great music but it will take just a bit more time than Apple told you in their pretty adds. A
  5. I'm not near my gear right now but I have some basics: Sync - there are Bidule sync modules that can slave from a Bidule port then send that timing info internally to other Bidule devices. Look for "sync" "Slave" and "master" in their help files. You'll also have to setup sync outputs in Logic to send midi clock to that Bidule port. Some of this is done globally, some has to be done per song, so make a template once you've work all this out. Bidule or Logic for mixing Both have their advantages but I'd stay in one program. If your sequence depends on volume automation to sound good then do it all in Logic and use Bidule simply for recording the final result. If after you want to remix or fine tune then create another Logic session bring in the audio files you just recorded with Bidule and now work on those 8 tracks. Kontakt and Play First ensure you're using auxes for your multi outputs so that you're not adjusting the master level of your entire Kontakt multi with a single Logic fader. Search "multi output objects in Logic" for a tutorial. 6db vs 0db can be set as a preference in Kontakt's setup page. you may have to go to standalone mode to do this. I also remember something about "new parts can be defaulted to 0 or-6" so look for that setting as well. As a very old Logic user I still prefer using midi automation and the checkboxes in the navigator to set the basic volume per part. I even love using CC11 for expression but you'll have to set that up at the ADSR level per instrument in Kontakt and that takes a lot of time or interns. BTW the Logic midi equivalent for 0db is 90 not 100. Perhaps that's part of the problem? Best I can do for now. Take your time. You have a lot of template work ahead of you.
  6. ...and I was pasting regions at the track level so something is definitely wrong. A
  7. Glad it worked. This forum has saved me so many times it's great to give back. As to PT and Logic opening each other's sessions, world peace is easier! Have a good weekend! A
  8. YIKES! Thanks. (Now on to trying to figure out how to restore this to my current template....)
  9. A long time ago (Logic 5) you had to reassign audio objects in the environment window to change them from Core Audio to TDM. Perhaps that requirement still exists in later versions. BTW It was frustrating and I gave up this process in favor of just exporting in Logic and reimporting in PT. Good luck. A
  10. pic attached again. (sorry it was a tiff originally)
  11. No I mean THIS. (Picture attached) You used to be able to assign this under where it says "folder". The one you see here at the very bottom was created by dragging an object into a folder. Also wrong behaviour.
  12. Thanks for the confirm. You know whenever an update comes out my first thought is "ok what became broken that was unbroken before?" "I know Engineers. They love to change things!" Dr Leonard McCoy
  13. When reassiging a track there is no longer a "no output" option. This was very handy. Anyone else? (BTW a no output track is still created when you drag an object into a folder. The object does NOT go to the same instrument or auto-create one anymore.) A
  14. Anyone else able to make this work? Currently the paste shows up in a different time spot than the one it was copied from. A
  15. Except that you don't have... Offline bounce (we dont either if there's any external midi or pipe through via rewire or Bidule) As many tracks or "voices" (remember not to engage record ready on any virtual instruments while playing back. You lose a lot of cpu power) Freeze (doesn't work inside folders) Bounce-In-Place (not with external midi or pipe through via rewire or Bidule) Region Folders (9.1.3 has a bug in folders, where placing objects into them lose their voice assignment.) Many years of plugin optimization (thanks to us involuntary beta testers who need to tell Apple when they've screwed up.) Combined MP3 and Wav bouncing (not offline. Bettter to print to auxiliaries anyway.) AAC or Apple Lossless bouncing (not offline. Bettter to print to auxiliaries anyway.) The ability to have multiple songs in memory at the same time (never been able to have this happen with anything that contains more than 8 tracks) Channel Strip preset (with a naming convention that is so nested you don't really know which name goes with what. PT has "import session' data which allows you to bring something in and not screw up all your track assignments.) A more advanced score editor built-in (really? have you tried Sibelius? Way easier!) 64-bit support (not yet. All kinds of third party trouble.) Sorry fader8. I'm just getting tired and I've been around since Logic 4. Currently I use a second mac with PT running slaved via MTC and I can't tell you enough how wonderful and trusty it has been. Soon my Logic rig will be like a mainstage rig with my favorite instruments and effects sitting in a row of channel strips in the background piped to PT9 via rewire or Bidule. Time for Logic to move backstage. Love that ipad. A Not really. 599 US for the base software, plus 1,995 for the production toolkit, plus 499 for the instrument bundle, and then you can do stuff that Logic can do. Except that you don't have... Offline bounce As many tracks or "voices" Freeze Bounce-In-Place Region Folders Many years of plugin optimization Combined MP3 and Wav bouncing AAC or Apple Lossless bouncing The ability to have multiple songs in memory at the same time Channel Strip preset A more advanced score editor built-in 64-bit support ..etc. I agree (PRO fOOLS)
