  1. Thanks for the advice. I ended up ordering a 2TB SSD. My library takes up approx 1.3TB. I've installed Omnisphere on the internal whilst I'm waiting and have noticed a big difference compared to running from the 7200RPM drive - previews are loading instantly.
  2. My sample library drive is actually the only thing I don't back up Everything else is backed up in at least two locations (including the installers for the libraries)
  3. Thanks for the response! I'm leaning towards the 2TB SSD for the sample library. I'm interested to hear what everyone is doing to store/record their projects too. I've always recorded to external drives but have seen that some people are using their internals to record (providing they have enough space) and archiving on externals. Does anyone have any insight to add here?
  4. Hi All, I have a new iMac arriving today (10 core i9, 40GB RAM, 512GB internal SSD) and am considering moving my sample libraries to SSD's from their current 7200RPM HDD's. The drives I'm looking at are 2.5" SATA seagate, Samsung, western digital or crucial. Purpose here is to minimise load times so I can be more efficient in auditioning and loading these libraries. The libraries/programs I own are: Komplete 12 Collectors (Kontakt, Battery, Maschine all used) Omnisphere 2 IK Syntronik IK Sampletank 4 Nexus 3 BFD 3 SSD 5 UVI Workstation Spitfire XLN Audio Keys Logic Content I'm thinking about going for a 2TB SSD and just putting everything on there, or alternatively, just going for a 1TB SSD and keeping samples that don't necessarily need SSD (like nexus) on the 7200RPM HDD. I'm also considering keeping Omnisphere 2 on my internal as I've opted for a larger internal SSD and feel I may get faster load/preview times here than from an external SSD. Would love to hear your opinions and advice on what you might do in the same scenario?
  5. Relax, Apple put USB 3 ports on all its computers in 2012. Yep - should be no issue with USB 3. I've also got a 2TB USB-C SSD on the way for my sample libraries - looking forward to seeing how this compares with my current 7200RPM USB drive.
  6. I ended up purchasing the i9. It’s scheduled for delivery in a couple of weeks. Will report back with my experience once it arrives.
  7. Hi All, I've decided to upgrade my existing iMac and would love to get some thoughts from the community on the most practical processor options. I'm weighing up the 2 processors below and whether I'd benefit from the 10 core version in Logic. Option 1: 3.8GHz 8-core 10th-generation Intel Core i7 processor with Turbo Boost up to 5.0GHz Option 2: 3.6GHz 10-core 10th-generation Intel Core i9 processor with Turbo Boost up to 5.0GHz I've always bought the top spec in processors but realise this may be more than I need this time around. The work I do can get quite busy and I often use a decent amount of software instruments and 3rd party plugins. I also prefer not to freeze or bounce individual tracks where possible. I have a general understanding of processors, but am sure there's plenty of people on this forum that will know a lot more than I do! To simplify my question, I'm essentially asking "Are the 2 additional cores in the 10 core version worth the 0.2Ghz drop in clock speed you get from the 8 core version?" Looking forward to hearing your opinions.
  8. I can confirm I am having the exact same issue. Stereo instance is working fine - but it shows two other options for multi-out at 16x stereo and 25x stereo - which both don't work for Omnisphere (as there is a max of 8). I have noticed the 16x stereo and 25x stereo issue on a number of other plugins too. I have attempted complete erase and install of OS and blank install of Logic and have come up with the same issue. I'm on Mojave 10.14.6.
  9. Thanks for the response des99 - hoping that these fixes come through soon! The unique part of the issue I'm having is that it doesn't appear to just be an Omnisphere issue - as per the screenshot below, the same multi-output options appear for all 3rd party plugs (even those that shouldn't have multi-out options). I feel that my next option might have to be an erase and install. Happy to hear if any other ideas/fixes to try prior to doing a complete reinstall!
  10. Hi all, I've run into a very peculiar issue after upgrading to 10.5. As per the attached screenshot - my third party plugins are showing the wrong multi-output options and will only load in as a stereo option. All stock logic plugins (except DLSMusicDevice) are functioning as per usual when selected as a multi-output option. All third party plugins show as having a Stereo option (which works) and then a multi-output (16xstereo) and multi-output (25xstereo). When either of the multi options are selected I receive the error message "Failed to load Audio Unit “plugin name”, please contact the manufacturer for an updated version or further assistance." I have checked this on seperate user accounts, deleted preferences/cache, reinstalled plugins, reinstalled logic but am still getting the same issue. I've also done multiple searches but and have not found anyone else to have the same issue. Would be great to hear any advice on how I may be able to fix this. I'm running Mojave 10.14.6. Logic 10.5. Thanks!
  11. For the sake of clarity can you further explain what you are hoping to do? Please also include why my post did not match what you are looking to do.
  12. I think I see what the problem is. Delete the big room fx from the destination in your screenshot. Open Logic X and open the loop browser. Drag the big room fx folder from the finder to on top of your loops in Logic. It will ask you whether you want to copy or leave in original location. Choose an option. All done.
  13. This is probably more of a personal preference for yourself as you have obviously used Cubase in the past. I personally would not use this feature but as a workaround you could always 'select all' and use the shift key to change the length of all midi notes to the same length which would at least give you the visual aspect you are chasing......to a degree.
  14. I think I understand what you are talking about. Which version of Logic are you using? Please check the screenshot I have provided. It shows the 'strength' slider available in the piano roll in Logic X which allows you to select a small selection of notes and choose how strong the quantisation is being applied between 0-100. Same things works for swing, if, for example you wanted to change the swing of a hi hat but leave a kick and bass quantised to the beat. Does this answer your question? You can also slide the Q-strength value up and down but keep in mind this will apply the change to the entire region selected.
  15. What is the file type of the loops you are trying to add? (wav or aiff should be fine, mp3 will not be accepted). Are you getting a window popping up asking whether you would like to copy the loops or keep them in their current location? Do you see an option for 'big room fx' when you click on where it says 'Loops' above the search bar? One thing to try is to go into GarageBand and index the loops in there. There was a problem a while ago that required you to open up garageband and make sure the loops were functioning correctly which would then make them behave normally in Logic.
