  1. I would say always try to record, at the rate you plan to use; conversions are exactly that, converting always has it's inherent artifacts, but discerning them, would be something, only very trained ears would recognize, given a good conversion algorithm...
  2. Received this just the other day, from Synrthax, not sure if reported: RME would like to point out that RME drivers work without known issues under 10.11 as well as 10.11.1. http://us7.campaign-archive1.com/?u=eff13214e490cd7374ea113ef&id=dd0e56270e&e=d3c1839803
  3. Yep! +1 for RME 802 Very happy with my new, RME 802, & TotalMix FX... Setup a mix of several mics & DI, into TotalMix FX, EQ Comp, routed to phones & now I understand the word 'pristine', so heavily used, to describe nice preamps; so much has changed, since I first bought my old (now defunct) 'konnekt 24D' unit, which served me well, but, then it;s not quite in the same class $$$ wise. I just wish the manual was a little more detailed, but some RME tutorials were, more, helpful to get me rolling (Are we rollin' Bob? hehe), and would still like to find more information on the TotalMix FX plugin (as I'm still fuzzy on the 'leveling' adjustment), there is nothing in the manual, on the plugins, function or controls... but experimentation, is the best teacher. hehe If this unit is in your price range, the newly designed RME 802 is a top performer, and having latency free monitoring, in the box, with open-ended routing, all indispensable features. cool cool Looking forward to tracking some stuff sounds, and hearing the AD-DA performance, & my expectations on the units performance are high, given what I've heard so far.
  4. OK, let me see if I can rap my brain around all this new technology... If I understand the literature: After configuring CC mode on the FF802 with an iPad; I can use then 'TotalMix FX for iPad', to getting a mix setup, for the headphones (monitoring), etc, for a perticular session; once happy with that process... then, After configuring CC mode on the my iMac, I can use Logic Remote, to record, mix, and even perform instruments in Logic Pro X from anywhere in the room, turning your iPad into a keyboard, drum pad, guitar fretboard, mixing board, or transport control. the fuzz and glazed-eyes then starts to become heavy: I understand that while using 'TotalMix FX for iPad', no 'recording' can be accomplished, as the FF802 is disconnected, from the iMac... but then, to start the recording session, the FF802 must me reconfigured, thru USB to the iMac; the session (and DAW, i.e. Logic Pro), can then be controlled, with the iPad using 'Logic Remote'. So, my question is, can an iMac, be connected, via USB to the FF802, & still be CC with an iPad, running 'Logic Remote', at the same time? This seems, another dumb question, but with the limitations of CC (Class-Compliant) connection (FF802 to iPad running TotalMix FX), given, that you can't be connected to both, as the same time, wouldn't this also, hold true, for a CC connection (FF802 to iMac thru USB & iPad running Logic Remote') I have a new FF802, but I'm deeply considering purchase of an iPad, for remote control, in both circumstances... and don't want to have to rely, on an Apple Genius, to understand what can & can't be done any help here...
  5. Ok, sorry Eric, I was a little confused, as I have always used Firewire in the past, and didn't understand that the USBa connectors, were usable, to connect an interface; duh! I received my new RME 802 yesterday, and everything was plug & play (business as usual), yeah! So thanks for your explanations, as they helped me make the jump, in purchasing the RME802 unit, a safe one and bring me into the lasted developments, hardware wise anyway... now to figure out how to use "Logic Remote" & "TotalMix FX for iPad", but that probably, is best dealt with in a separate post
  6. Then get the 802 which is the newer version! So, if I understand his broken english, the RME 802 has a FW 400 (IEEE 1394), and not FW 800 (IEEE 1394b), but because they have their own design, it will perform sufficiently well, without the increased BW that FW800 offers? The iMac I will be using has FW 800 ports only (no USB 2.0 conector), seeing I wanted to maximize BW (contemporary technology-wise), with a new interface. RME is thus touting, their FW 400 design, will perform sufficiently, not be compromising, users? Any further feedback, concerning this would be settling & assuring, as I'm considering the FF802s performance-wise, in this regard; I do need a new interface, BUT my iMac (an iMac 2.8GHz IntelCore i7) has only FW800 connector, or could I daisy-chain USB into my External HD's (G Technology G-DRIVE 1TB unit) USB 2.0 connection, then use FW800 from HD into iMac FW800. So, guess I'm questioning if that IS a workable solution for me?
  7. mac Flux:: v3 :: Solera - AAX HDX (V3.2.21) is free 8) neat plug if your using "AAX HDX" (personally clueless about it), thought some might benefit.
  8. Love the 'Rocket' J., I use it on 'sub auxs', tastefully, to blend & bring out instrumentations... so I will definitely use that link... Thanks!
  9. Man, been waiting for this... worth the wait, threw 'Alchemist' on the output of a song I've been working on, behind Elixer (one of their limiters) and dialed up their 5-band patch... sweet. FYI
  10. Growing up during these times, I watch many guitarist, "ripping riffs", it was how one learned; Mr Page sees that, as I did back then & now, as complimentary, one emulated those one admires; much of the "ripping riffs", that was done by Mr. Page was not done 'right off" (as he puts it), and that is, I think what he means in this statement, by taking the riff, and owning it, make it your own (always subtile & discriminatingly, it can be as little as a hammer on or off that changes the spirit of a riff), at least that's my way of thinking True "copyright issue" belong in the courts... all else falls in the court of public opinion.
  11. Seen & heard documentary on LZ many many rips, the opportune obscurity of so many of the early blues artist allowed, as they were plainly embraced, appropriated, & made LZ's own, more then just borrowing licks, but even phrases and lines...
