  1. I kind of want to call BS on that technique... I imagine he probably plays tracks in live from a synth/soft-synth, then manipulates them as needed from there. I mean, the idea of having the synth right there but instead "tuning" the track... right! That said, I imagine that they do sample audio regions (much like "convert to new sampler track" in logic, except using structure in pro tools. I rather think Logic was ahead of the game on that end of things. This would allow you to play ("tune") any note you had.
  2. Hey, I read this post, then that tutorial, and I decided to write my own tutorial. It takes a different angle, first introducing the basics of sampling in Logic, then recreating the functionality offered by typical samplers, within Logic, then talks a bit about how to get more out of ultrabeat and exs24, including how I personally use them. I would copy it, but the formatting wouldn't transfer, etc.: "Sampling in Logic 9" http://blog.robbiesullivan.com/?p=68 Email me with questions--I will need to revise it but need people who are confused by it to tell me how! robbie@robbiesullivan.com
  3. Some illumination: Which makes me think that the channel strip is using a local reference, and can't fall back on a search of the logic library because I'm hiding the files.
  4. SO, I like to use channel strip settings rather than individual instrument patches as the basis of my preset library, but I have a serious problem recalling such channel strips that include my own exs24 patches. My workflow is: I have a folder in my library called "copy" and build all my presets in projects saved in that folder, with "copy exs instruments..." "copy exs samples.." and "copy ultrabeat samples..." selected. Then I save the channel strip into the library, and all is well--at least for ultrabeat patches + synth patches. BUT when I try to open up a channel strip saved in this way in a new project it can never find the the ".exs" file--says exs instrument "instrument.exs" not found--works fine in the "copy" folder project of course. What am I doing wrong?
  5. I'm adding my own sampler preset. Has f#1 + a#1 grouped (so in GM world a CL hat shuts off an OP hat). I can't remember how I set the envelopes, but I've found it a very natural-feeling preset to play. Volume is also set to a reasonable level if you're using normalized samples Samples_LPH_GM.pst Ultrabeat preset for intuitive, GM drum mapping w/ normalized samples
  6. I'm imaging a plugin that is technically a wrapper--just as you might wrap an au in a vst wrapper if your DAW doesn't do au, so would this plugin just "wrap" up an existing plugin. However, instead of doing it as a form of conversion, you would do it to get added functionality out of the plugin. The wrapper has its own envelope, triggered either via midi or audio signal. This envelope is assignable to any parameter of the plugin that could normally be automated. Maybe I'm still not being clear (or thinking clearly!) but I don't really know how to do this.
  7. I wonder if you could wrap a vst/au with an "effect" that has an adsr envelope, where the envelope functions on a given parameter of the plugin?
  8. Whenever you see an obscured brand on a tv show it is because the studio sees that as an opportunity to make some advertising cash (product placement). They can't expect apple to pony up the bread if they are already placing the products, so they cover up the label. It's not because apple doesn't want free promotion
