  1. Wow. I’ve watched YT videos and read support articles from some high profile plugin manufacturers who don’t seem to have wrapped their head around that. With regards to my other question, can I take it that despite the warnings that Logic gives you, that there’s no real risk associated with running plugins that failed validation on an M1 machine if I have been running them under Intel without any issues for years? Thanks!
  2. Ahh ok. So even though the options below have 'Open using Rosetta' unchecked, Rosetta IS actually running in the background?
  3. Hi Friends! Can anyone think of any reason(s) why I would NOT want to apply the attached audio settings in Logic on a 16" M1 Max with 64 GB RAM? I will only be using this computer for Logic Pro - absolutely nothing else will be running at the same time. I also will not be doing any live recording into Logic - just using the sample libraries and plugins. I guess the only other variable is that all of my sample libraries (including Spectrasonics, Spitfire, NI etc) are on an external SSD. Thanks! Dave.
  4. Hi Friends! I recently upgraded my production machine to a 16 inch M1 Max MBP. I'm installing all my plugins and came across an interesting one... After installing the Soundspot Bundle of FX plugins and restarting Logic, it notified me that 'Logic Pro encountered 10 Audio Unit Plugins which did not pass the Apple AU validation. These plugins have ben excluded from further use in Logic Pro to prevent possible problems or crashes etc etc'. I'm sure we've all encountered that pop-up before. However, when I go into the plugin manager where these plugins are, of course, noted as 'validation failed', all I have to do is check the 'Use' checkbox to the right and I can go ahead and use them in Logic. They all seem to be working just fine. So my first question is whether or not I am taking any risks by using plugins that failed validation? Secondly, I have no idea why these plugins are even working as, according to Plugin Boutique, they are only working on Intel processors. I'm running Logic in Universal mode, not Rosetta, so surely these plugins shouldn't be working at all? If anyone can shed any light on both of these questions it would be much appreciated. Thanks! Dave.
  5. Thanks for your input David. Realistically speaking (due to changes in my financial situation) this will be the last time for another 6-7 years that I'll be in a position to afford a high end Mac - so I want to make sure that I'm getting as much bang for my buck over that duration. Right now I don't need 64 GB RAM, so I could just get an M1 Pro with 32 GB - but I won't be in a position to upgrade it in 3 or 4 years should my circumstances change and I find that I need more RAM. So that's why I'm edging toward to the Max with 64 GB. Cheers, Dave.
  6. Thanks for the comparison. I'd really like to future-proof my next purchase so it lasts a good 7-8 years running Logic at full tilt, hence my desire to get the 64 GB RAM. Decisions, decisions....
  7. Sorry...I guess what I meant was if I was running the same Logic project on a M1 Pro vs running it on an M1 Max. I would have thought that the extra RAM (if I went for it) and 'faster' CPU in the Max would mean that, all things being equal, the Max would generate less heat than the Pro for the same Logic project and set of plugins - not the other way round. Hope that makes sense.
  8. Thanks for the reply! Wow - I would never have thought that a M1 Max would generate more heat than a M1 Pro. I would have thought it would actually be the other way round. Just reading now that the 16 inch M2 is due out in October. Might hold off and see what the price comparison is - and if the M1 comes down in price a bit. Cheers,
  9. Hi all! I’ve had a 16 inch Intel MBP for almost 5 years now and I’m thinking of upgrading to a 16 inch M1 Pro. As with many 16 inch Intel MBP owners, I’ve been plagued with severe overheating of the machine when running Logic. However, I’ve been reading some scary threads on reddit about the new M1 Pro 16 inch MBP’s still dangerously overheating when giving Logic a run out. Can anyone on here testify to the ‘coolness’ of the new machines? There’s no way I’m shelling out 3 grand just to start frying eggs on a new machine when my current one can fry an egg perfectly well. Thanks in advance! Dave.
  10. Do you mean on an Intel MBP? The heat is generated by the CPU and GPU, so while software optimisations can help, they can't cool the chips. These Intel chips just generate heat when used. BTW There are no heating issues on the M1s... you can crank Logic, in clamshell mode, with an external display, and the fans stay off and the laptop barely gets warm to the touch... Thanks for that. Yeah I understand that the new M1’s have solved the heat issues that have plagued 16 inch Intel MBP’s. However, having splurged massively on my 16 inch MBP only two years ago, I’m in no position financially to upgrade for at least another 2 years yet. I was just curious, as Monterey has actually drastically reduced heat and fan issues on the 16 inch Intel MBP while connected to an external monitor. However, I do everything in the box and I need the portability. It seems that, somehow, the OS software update is actually affecting hardware performance, but I’m not noticing any real difference to be honest.
  11. Hey Everyone! So I upgraded to Monterey last week and everything seems to be flowing smoothly. I’ve been plagued the last few years, however, with crazy heat / fan noise coming off my 16 inch MBP when running Logic and nothing I’ve tried has eased my woes. I therefore read with great interest that Monterey has solved the overheating issue on the 16 inch models when connected to an external display - and it seems legit. Just wondering if anyone has read, knows of, or has experienced any reduction in heat / fan noise from a 16 inch mbp NOT connected to an external display while using Logic after upgrading to Monterey? To be honest, I’m not noticing much of a difference but I’m praying that Monterey might hold a glimmer of hope for my Logic heat issues. Cheers, Dave.
  12. Ah, great point about iLok - didn't think about that one. I do have a few machine authorisations. I guess I could just move them over to my newly acquired iLok USB then move them back to my machine after updating. Thanks!
  13. Hi all! I'm considering making the jump from Catalina and Logic 10.6 to Big Sur and Logic 10.7 (on a 2019 16" Intel MBP). Can anyone think of any issues I might encounter or considerations I might want to make before moving across? I'm mainly concerned about plugin compatibility. I use a lot of the 'big name' synths like Sylenth, Serum, Diva, Pigments etc for sound design and production and also a lot of Brainworx / Plugin Alliance stuff and Slate Digital for mixing. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot! Dave.
