  1. I've had almost no problems running OSX betas. However, I'm going to sit this one out. Unlike past betas, this one seems very immature, and the possibility that the new Apple File System will screw things up seems pretty high.
  2. Okay, yes, cleaned up multiple times, checked for hidden tracks (none), and made undo steps go down to 50... file is still at 5.5 gigs:( Are you using ginormous samples from a ginormous sample library? Break down your tracks for us.
  3. Yeah, never upgrade an OS without a fresh install. Especially with Sierra. I've never had any issues with Sierra and I'm even using public beta updates (because I'm a wild man).
  4. Which plugins are giving you trouble? Do you have the latest versions installed?
  5. Some ideas before you completely reinstall the OS. Can you remove the "old Focusrite Pro 10 Firewire interface" and see if that changes anything? Can you copy a large file from one SSD to the other (and vice versa) and get the crazy fast SSD performance one would expect?
  6. That's a pretty massive workload for any computer! Look at your individual core CPU usage. Are you maxing out one core while not using the others as much? If so, there are some strategies to spread out the load better. If the load is spread across all cores fairly evenly, and there isn't some other issue at play (incorrect Logic Preference settings, some other computer issue, etc) then freezing individual CPU hungry tracks is the way to go. Sometimes freezing just a couple CPU killer tracks is all that is necessary.
  7. LPX has pretty good multi-core implementation and will benefit from more cores. Of course, processor speed also matters. Will a faster 4 core outperform a 6 or 8 core with a slower processor? It really depends on which processor, how big a difference in clock speed there is, and what plugins you are using in Logic.
  8. That sounds like a crappy experience, angelonyc. According to Apple, they are redesigning the Mac Pro with a more modular approach so we'll see. Probably won't be out till end of next year, at the earliest though.
  9. The Standalone version will install into you Applications folder. The AU plug-in component will install into the Components folder. If you have the .component file in the right spot, and it sounds like you do, you should be able to launch it from within Logic, so I don't know what's happening there.
  10. The Components folder is found here: Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components
  11. Seems like you installed the Standalone version of the program. You also need to install the AU version (and it must be in the Components folder) if you want to run it as a plug-in.
  12. They're putting more emphasis on the GPU on those iMac Pro's, so yeah, video users definitely targeted, and could possibly be aimed at 3D game developers/VR content creators also? Wonder how hot those things get when under load. It's also quite a smart strategy in appearing to make the $2.5-3k models more 'affordable'. Edit: Is it really true that you can't get to the HDD or Ram? If so that is shocking!! I think you can do the RAM yourself (at least you can on my 2011 iMac) but to do anything else internal, you have to remove the screen with special tools. There are videos online how to do it, but I wouldn't say it's user-serviceable.
  13. And the higher end ones are more than capable for most of our needs. I'm waiting to see some Geekbench numbers. How much of a performance boost is this really from the 2015 models?
  14. That is a sexy beast. But I'll never spend more than 3k on a computer. But the new spec-bumped iMacs seem more than capable for most prosumers doing digital audio. I'm eyeing the new 27inch configured with the 4.2Ghz Kaby Lake CPU.
