  1. @wonshu I basically agree with all that. I have multiple backups of all my stuff in 2 different physical locations. I don't keep personal and financial records on a cloud that isn't one I rolled myself (I use Synology Drive where the "cloud" is on my NAS drive). I don't care as much about my music stuff, hence I didn't mind keeping it on Dropbox. (Honestly their ability to bring back stuff you've deleted, while yes, it's a bit creepy... SERIOUSLY saved my bacon a couple times.) If someone really wanted to steal the music I wrote for a guinea pig trudging through prehistoric mud, they can go right ahead. I treat my more personal music projects with about as much preciousness as well haha. The day I have to worry about someone really trying to get my music files, well... I figure I'd have to be pretty big time! Fortunately with this new solution, there is no 3rd party involved. It's like a modern day LapLink haha!
  2. So I've been trying to .zip sessions/folders and put them in dropbox. It's not working for me... my sessions are multiple GB in size, take a long time to .zip, and I switch between the two places so much it's easy to lose track of what files/sessions I had updated and where I hadn't. So far I haven't made any major mistakes, but I know it would have been a matter of time. It took too much thinking/remembering to keep track of everything. (I'm often working on 4 or 5 episodes at a time... so many sessions per episode, too.) I found a solution. It looks like it's going to work...It is so good I'm tempted to start a new thread, as I think it's a useful tip for someone in my situation. I have been a long time user of ChronoSync ($40 from https://www.econtechnologies.com), a feature rich backup program that I've used to do daily backups of data from my Macs to my NAS drive. (It also can do bootable/clone backups yadda yadda yadda) What I didn't know, is they have a little add-on for about $15 called ChronoAgent that allows you to easily and quickly sync files (including 2 way sync) directly between two Macs, locally or remotely. I have it set to automatically sync a folder I've named "LogicSync" between my MBP at home and Mac Studio in my studio every morning. However, if I've done work on a session at home, then later that same day want to work on it at the studio, before I split I just click a button and it will run the sync immediately. No Dropbox/iCloud/SynologyDrive weirdness... much less chance for PEBCAK. I hope someone finds this helpful.
  3. During the covid lockdown in 2020, I had no job and my 2010 Mac Pro called it quits. (Or something happened where I couldn't work/record in an acceptable way... I forget) 10 years is a great run for a computer, but I didn't have money coming in. I picked up a new first generation M1 Mac mini (16GB ram) and it was pretty good! Fast forward to today... I have a job again (yay!) but of course getting that Mac mini to behave with thick logic sessions almost 12 minutes in length... I would have to close out of everything (cloud services, any non-audio applications running in the background) for it to run without hiccuping (usually saying something nasty about the midi driver... but really it was just low on resources.) I just picked up a Apple M2 Ultra with 24‑core CPU, 60‑core GPU, 32‑core Neural Engine 64GB unified memory and 2TB SSD storage. Wicked expensive but now is the time as I have job and I'm hoping to have this last as long as the 2010 Mac Pro did. So far it's great. Certainly none of the issues I had before are cropping up. Interestingly, offline bouncing is not hugely faster. However, that conversion to MP3 is insanely quick compared to even my 2017 MBP. I may not even need a Vienna Ensemble situation/PC for orchestral mockups... but let's not get hasty.
  4. Oof. I was afraid of that. Of course I always was storing everything locally on all devices, but that doesn't matter. Yes @Mania it may just take 1 second, but it's an extra step I must remember to do. And then I should .zip it too? (Yes, this totally makes sense, btw) I literally go between working at home and the studio multiple times a day while working on multiple projects that already have too many files. 1st world problems boo hoo. haha. I don't mean to come across as complaining to you though, I deeply appreciate the input. I'm just trying to figure out what's the easiest way to deal. This has been my way of working for well over a decade. Maybe I was lucky but I never had an issue with dropbox (outside of slowing down my system) until I stupidly agreed to upgrade to the new version on "file provider." (What ended up happening was the exact opposite of "file provider" hahah) Now some files on one system are ok, and not on the other system. I'm going to have to manually comb and figure where the stuff is. I have multiple NAS servers... I also use a peer to peer network so that home is at 192.168.9.xxx and studio is 192.168.6.xxx (for a while I had my parent's place on the other side of the continent on that same network... ahhh technology) so there must be a simple way to do this. If I must compress and drag files to a cloud provider every time, that may just be what I gotta do. Seems so... messy. (backups, versioning etc etc etc) I may just be reacting to change.
  5. Since the “new” overhaul of Dropbox it has stopped syncing my Logic files correctly. I do need a cloud service for my use case... or at least it’s the most convenient way of doing it. (I run Logic at home or at my studio a couple miles away.) I roll my own cloud service with Synology’s Drive, but in the past it’s been not great with Apple centric Logic files. My recent experiments with it seemed to be successful, but annoying. Too many notifications about every bit and byte changed. I’m assuming iCloud will be the best for this, as it’s coming from Apple. How have your experiences been with iCloud and Logic sessions?
  6. Thank you @Atlas007!!! This is the exact functionality I was looking for. I've been working with logic as my (mostly) full time job since 2002(ish) and I'm always amazed at both just how many features it has, and how helpful folks here at logicprohelp have been for me over the years. Thanks again! Walter
  7. I’ll give that a try. Unsure if I’ll be able to assign a specific note, but that’s certainly an approach I’ve not tried… and I won’t know till I try. I’ll check it out this afternoon. Thanks for the detailed explanation!
  8. Thanks! Yup. I already put something like that together. I was thinking there might be something more efficient. for one synth, I made a track stack of 8 external instrument instruments and can trigger it all via that stack. That said it’s not as flexible as an actual drum machine plug-in with assignable outs.
  9. I’m sure there must be something like this… maybe even built into logic? looking for an instrument that acts like a drum machine, and you can assign each drum a midi port/channel/note out (not in) to each drum. That exists somewhere, right? Id like to set up drum sets that incorporate various sounds from my disparate collection of outboard synths… thanks. Sorry if my question is very basic… My Google foo has not been producing proper results.
  10. Oooh. That way I wouldn’t need to even worry about all this multi-channel stuff. That’s good. Thanks. But how would one get an envelope pan to alternate between going to the left and the right per note? Perhaps set it up as two patches and alternate between the two patches per note... hmmm. And the delay... I’m not sure that would follow the pan after the note ended... maybe a midi delay would work, but wouldn’t that re-trigger the envelope?
  11. Hi. Was brainstorming a particular cheesy stereo effect I’d like on something, and I’m unsure how to do it. It could be an audio effect, but it seems like midi is more equipped to detect the beginnings of notes... 1 synth (mono in this case) Every note played is assigned sequentially to a new channel (lets say in this case 8 channels... cycled) Channels have panning automation that starts in pan center at the beginning of each note and travel to either the L or R, alternating with each channel. I’d like to be able to put a delay effect (audio) on each of those channels... (so this may have to go to audio tracks, not channels) Fairly simple in concept, but being that it’s sort of a combination of audio and midi trickery I’m not sure. I could see this being an effect in a synth box with multiple outs... If there isn’t a plugin already for something like this, is it programmable in Logic? I was thinking about the environment page (my age is showing haha) but can’t think of a way to have the individual channels know to start the panning automation when a note is received... Perhaps I’m over thinking it... Thanks for any suggestions.
  12. The subject more or less says it all. MBP 2017.. 15 inch w/touchbar in clamshell mode. Even though I have "Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" checked in Keyboard Preferences... when I hit a function key, only the "special features" work. (F10 is mute, not F10). When the keyboard viewer is opened, pressing on a function key does nothing. I can click on the function key on the keyboard viewer and yes, the function key "works" then. I'm guessing that this is some sort of disconnect between the fact that the preferences are setup for a laptop keyboard... but can't seem to find the answer. This has proven to be very bad as I deeply depend on those function keys (with any and all modifiers) for my key commands in LPX. Perhaps there is a workaround with Keyboard Maestro. I'll do that if I must, but first wanted to see if there is an easier fix sans rabbit hole. Thanks!
  13. For the record, I did the patch and the update last night. So far, smooth sailing... Logic updated itself just fine and no more warning messages. Thanks again!
