  1. this all comes down to your mix.... spend a LOT of time getting your mix just right. there are no specific settings someone can tell you to use on the limiter because every track is different. it's going to be different just based on your tracks headroom. but if your mix is super good, you don't need much as far as mastering goes. you really can sometimes get away with just a limiter. i would REALLY suggest you get a better limiter than the adaptive limiter. it's ok if that's all you have, but it's nice to have something that gives you a little more information than the adaptive limiter does. you really want something that is going to give you information and read-out on the amount of gain reduction. typically in mastering, you want somewhere between 2-4 dB worth of gain reduction on peaks. i've seen some that have like 6dB worth of gain reduction and still sound clean though. so use your ears. the adaptive limiter doesn't tell you how much gain reduction you're getting. this can also be kind of a good thing though honestly..... it forces you to use your ears a bit more. but essentially on the adaptive limiter you would set the input scale to a point where it doesn't go "over" you'll see that turn red if it does. then push the gain a bit until it starts to sound bad. set your out ceiling to something like -.1dB it's best to do a small touch of some sort of mastering compression before the limiter as well. make sure it's a decent master bus compressor. it'll just sound better. i LOVE the waves SSLComp. there's WAAAAAAAAY too much detail to go into about mastering and loudness for this thread, but just know that most of you "loudness" will come down to your mix. you can push your limiter a little harder if your mix is really well balanced and tight. having something that tells you your RMS levels is helpful too. usually something around the -4 to -9 RMS levels will yield you results that are "commercially" ready. it's best to use a reference track when you're doing this as well so you can try and match that. use a track similar to yours that you can A/B with to be able to easily hear and adjust things about your track compared to the professional one. you just don't want to hear distortion..... distortion is bad. hopefully this helps a bit. i'd be more than happy to go into more detail if you want/need.
  2. they initialize ultrabeat. these were uploaded by David (the dude that runs this site) a long time ago. they're his presets for initializing ultrabeat. they pretty much allow you to drag and drop samples into ultrabeat without there being any change to the sample because of filters or anything else in ultrabeat. it's essentially just like throwing them into the exs24.

    solo problem

ok so i think i figured it out. the track that was muting itself that was the problem had been routed to bus 10. bus 10 then had no output because it was just a trigger for another track. so i just made the output of bus 10 to be the same bus 40 as everything else, and then took the volume all the way down. problem solved.
  4. use either of these: Ultrabeat Sample Player (now w/velocity) you can save these in your User>Library>Application Support>Logic>Plug-in Settings>Ultrabeat folder. now when you open ultrabeat you should have these presets available.
  5. so first you want to make sure that each track has only one midi region. because when you export the midi to your desktop, each midi region will then be it's own track when imported. so if you have multiple midi regions on one track, make sure you join them all together. then all you have to do is select both tracks and right click the midi regions in the arrange window and go to export>export as midi file and save it to your desktop. it will save multiple tracks as one file and then when imported it will give each midi region it's own track. remember though, that it just saves the midi, not the instruments and inserts and what-not.

    solo problem

one of them is going to the stereo out (my reference track). the other two are routed to bus 40, which I use for my master out. so when I solo bus 40 (my master) it mutes those 3 tracks only. I'm not at home but I'll post a shot when I get home. muting one of them, the reference track is fine. but there's two tracks that are routed to bus 40 that I need to hear that it keeps muting for some reason.

    solo problem

how come when i solo my master channel it mutes some of my other tracks? not all of them, just 3 of them. the M flashes on them. everything that's routed to my master should play just fine when i solo my master channel. but for some reason 3 of my tracks get muted when i solo my master. any ideas?
  8. no one else has any suggestions??? i've tried importing everything into a new project and it's still doing this. no other project of mine does this. i've never noticed this behavior before and i've tested on older projects and it doesn't do this.
  9. thanks for the reply, but i've already tried that and it does not work. and i never lock my screensets in any of my other projects and they aren't doing this either. i might just have to start this projectt over and import everything into a new project. it's driving me crazy.
  10. so for some reason out of nowhere, if i'm on a track in which i have a folder, when i open my mixer it only shows me that specific track and then all the aux tracks. if i click the arrow thing in the top left corner of the mixer, it says "leave folder" and then i can view all my tracks like normal again. why is this happening all of a sudden? i've never had this issue before. i just want the mixer to open properly and not have to click that stupid icon each time i open my mixer...... i have always used folders and i've never seen this before...... not sure what the heck happened??? the first picture is after i press the arrow in the left corner that "leaves folder" or i have a track selected that does not have a folder before opening my mixer. the second picture is of when i open my mixer while i have a track that has a folder on it. i also just opened another project that i've been working on that has folders as well. that project is not doing this. it's only this project. i don't know if i accidentally hit some key command that is making it do this, but i've searched and can't find any info about this.....
  11. i don't think this is possible. aux 1 would have 2 different outputs. that's not possible. what you'd probably need to do is create 3 aux tracks. essentially duplicate aux 1 so they have the same effects and everything going on. because you want midi 1 going to aux 1 and midi 2 going to aux 1, but only midi 2 would then feed to aux 2. you'd want to create 3 aux track. send midi 1 to aux 1 and midi 2 to aux 2 but both aux 1 and aux 2 would be the same. then route aux 2 to aux 3 and then to the stereo out. make sense? but i don't think it's possible to give aux 1 two outputs. and since both midi 1 and midi 2 would be routed to aux 1, there's no way to do it by using a send because both midi tracks would be going to that aux track. and how would you be able to split aux 1 so that it knows midi 1 information needs to go to the stereo out and midi 2 information needs to go to aux 2 and then stereo out? remember both midi 1 and 2 that you're wanting would be routed to that one aux channel. how would that aux know what information to split?
  12. you can also just switch to using the old logic 9 key commands and then everything will be just like you remember it to be.
  13. Sounds like you're a little confused yourself! I mean, yes, he could do what you're suggesting if he wanted to create a software instrument "version" of his TD-11. But it sounds like he just wants to trigger the TD-11's sounds using an external MIDI track, just like you would normally do with any MIDI-capable external hardware (or even software) instrument. J. not confused at all. i know exactly what midi does. i explained what midi does. i wasn't incorrect in saying that midi is used to trigger software instruments. midi itself does not make a sound. as you can see now by what has happened in the thread, i'm pretty sure i was understanding what he was wanting to do. i think he was confused on how midi worked. now he just needs to figure out how to map his td-11 properly to get it to trigger the virtual kit properly.
  14. typically you'll want the bass frequency to be mono..... but if you want to pan the low frequencies left, you'll have to split the track. duplicate the track and use the eq to cut all the highs and pan that track left. then on the other duplicate cut all the lows and pan that right, or leave centered. you can then create a track stack and use this as one instrument. the second question is a totally different thing. the channel eq in logic has left, right, mid, side, and stereo modes. you can eq those within that plugin. the third question is essentially a mix between the first two. but why would you want to do that? if you put all the low on the left, why would you then want it on the right?
  15. try using a multiband compressor and use the bands to tame those till it sounds right to you. just lower the threshold till you get the amount of reduction that sounds right.
