  1. Regarding the aforementioned new (or lack of, depending on your perspective) documentation in Logic Studio 2, a user on the Logic discussion boards at Apple's site posted this link: Apple - Logic Studio - Documentation Survey It's not new, but it's a survey regarding Logic Help and documentation. If you want printed or PDF documentation I encourage you to fill this out as well. Great opportunity to voice your opinion to Apple specifically about the documentation for Logic, if you're dissatisfied. Free
  2. Maybe you should check your facts? From the Apple/Logic website: What's in the Box * Printed and electronic documentation And from David's posting on this website, the following: Sorry, ski, I am in fact, correct. The only two documentation booklets included in the Logic Studio 2 box (which I purchased and am staring at), aside from the Applecare and installation leaflets, are entitled "Exploring Logic Pro 9," and "Exploring Mainstage 2." And while they are indeed, a form a documentation, they are not full manuals, which is what we're talking about. They are less a global source for in-depth information of the applications' features and more of a walkthough for first time users. This is stated as such in the last chapter of both booklets (and pdf), "Getting Answers:" "Now that you have learned about the basic features of Logic Pro, you probably have more questions. You can use Logic Pro Help to find the answers you need.... ...In Logic Pro, choose Help > Logic Pro Help, then click Logic Pro 9: User Manual." So there is no paper manual, and no PDF manual, only the manual available through a browser via Apple's site and OS X's Help system, which varies greatly from the format of the Logic 8 PDF and printed manual in both format and usability. But we're picking nits now, aren't we? The original point of my post was to echo the comments of other users, including you, that the Help system manual is a step backward in usefulness for the end user, and to offer some constructive action. Sorry I bothered. Free
  3. Regarding the lack of PDF manual for Logic Pro 9, I sent this to Apple yesterday via their Logic Pro feedback page: Might I suggest everyone (I think sensibly) desiring full PDF documentation make the request to Apple through via the feedback page? They do listen, as evidenced by the new features in the upgrade. http://www.apple.com/feedback/logicpro.html Free
  4. Hey everyone Sorry for the long delay in reporting this, but better late than never. I never did end up getting the X32, however I did get the TC Studio Konnekt 48, which uses the same integrator plugin, and I'm happy to report that it totally works -- we can now use Kyma as an AU. I have my Capy connected via an AES/EBU to ADAT converter to my Konnekt 48's optical I/O, as well as a TC D-Two delay and a Sony DPS-V77 both hooked up via Spdif. I can pull up an instance of the Integrator plugin on a track in Logic 8 and choose any of those three devices. The stream going to the Capy (or the other two) back plays back in perfect sync, after calibrating the signal. Repeatedly stopping and starting the sequence or from anywhere in the song poses no problems, it works flawlessly. I can bounce a section (in real time) and drop the bounced audio back in to the arrange with no timing issues whatsoever. Impressive! I really like the K48 as an interface, it sounds great (it compared favorably, to my ears, with the Apogee Ensemble I formerly owned -- I did an A/B test), and the flexible routing architecture along with the remote is the icing on the cake. I have my headphone mix setup as one of the speaker sets on the remote so I can control the volume of my cans from the remote, which is something I couldn't do with my Presonus Central Station. I'm loving it. So, until Apple deigns to add support for delay compensation for external fx in Logic (who knows when, if ever), the X32 or K48 does the job with aplomb. (FYI, My K48 played just fine with my Flame interface for the Capy on both the same FW bus as well as a dedicated one. Using the X32 with another FW audio interface is a little more nebulous, looks like it may depend on your configuration. According to TC: "We have made some tests with a non-TC audio interface, and the testing showed that it is possible to use Digital Konnekt x32 as a "secondary" interface to integrate external hardware, running along with the interface you'd use for main inputs/outputs. Most importantly, we found that buffer settings of Digital Konnekt x32 should be larger than those on the 'main' interface. However, it is not officially supported, since testing of this with all interfaces on the market would be an enormous task. We recommend that you try this out with your particular setup and see if it works for you.") Free
  5. I recently finished a project that eats about 95 percent of my processing power on my Dual 2.5 Powermac G5/4.5 GB RAM, just for kicks I opened it in LP8 on my 2 GHz Core 2 Duo Macbook/2 GB RAM and it ran slightly better. I can't see why an (intel) iMac wouldn't be a powerful choice for using LP8. Free
  6. I don't know as I quit using LP8 infrustration last Friday and went (happily) back to Logic 7.2, for several more bug reasons than kjust the control surface issue, but I woudln't doubt that it probably does. Once I had the control surfaces working, several other problems creeped up, some of which are documented here by myself and several other users, check it out: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/logic-8-special-one-month-forum-new-release/144986-must-read-any-control-surface-users-mackie-control-universal-logic-8-a.html Good luck. I'm staying in Logic 7 for the next couple months, at least. Free
  7. Unfortunately, tab can't be learned as a key command now, because it's used to tab through arrange window areas (shift-tab cycles the other way), according to the manual. I used to use tab for record -- I'm having a bit or a hard time adjusting to "R". Free
  8. Thanks. I heard from Apogee this morning: It seems to be working for me this way now. Free
  9. ...and it doesn't work again. Quit LP8 to check something out in LP7, quit LP7 and opened LP8, no control surfaces or scanning ability again. Very dissapointing. Free
  10. Ummm, this is odd, if satisfying. The MCU's I scanned and setup when the Ensemble was OFF are now available and functional with the Ensemble on. The only thing I did was quit LP8, open up LP7 and work in there for awhile, and then open up LP8 again. To my surprise the MCU's fired up. I'm usually pretty thorough in my troubleshooting, so I definitely had open and closed LP8 with the Ensemble on and off to make sure it was the problem in the chain, several times, as well as restarted the G5 twice, so it definitely was not working correctly before I posted last. I have no explanation for why opening LP7 would make the MCU's show up in LP8 with the Ensemble on. Hopefully this is helpful to someone. I haven't quit LP8 or restarted the Mac since I discovered this because for a few blissful moments I actually want to use it. If on quitting and relaunching it stops working, or if I get any helpful info from Apogee I will post again. Thanks to all who have posted on this issue. Free
  11. FWIW, I'm having the exact same problem as the person you're referring too. From my email to Apogee support: I thought it was the driver for my AMT8 at first, but no, everything points to the friggin Ensemble as the culprit here. So, I guess Il'll wait to see what they say. ptbarnum, have you had any sucesss?
  12. xpander That was a very nice thing to say, so thank you, and you're quite welcome. Frankly, I've spent years trolling forums and gleaning all kinds off useful information, but never really contributing, so I just decided to pitch in finally. I've seen very informed and helpful thoughts posted by Fader8 on this forum and Gearslutz, so in the spirit of your post, I'd like to give a shoutout of thanks to him, too. Now for some bad news. TC has pushed back the release date of the X32 to 9/29, and I'm leaving to go on the road for a few months in two weeks, so I had to cancel my order since I won't be around to get it and make sure it works. I'll pick one up when I get back, but in the meantime, if anyone else following this thread gets one, let us know if it works! peace Free
  13. Now that's an interesting box. That could replace a few things here, and I've been thinking about getting a master clock anyway. The "ping" function with PDC reporting is definitely cool. Note that this doesn't do anything new that you can't do with other various hardware and software, but it sure does seem to integrate all the functions into one convenient and relatively affordable package. We shall await your guinea pig report! PS: Get a firewire card! I've had good success with the NitroAV stuff. Sweetwater's still waiting for delivery of the X32 as of today -- there's a chance they could get them this week, but you know how new product releases go -- I waited for my Mackie MCU pro for 6 weeks and every week in that time, Mackie was saying "next week...". The thing that interests me solely for this piece is the AU integrator plug. I use Kyma (at this early stage in my relationship with it) as a live FX processor. Recording digitally back into Logic through the Capy works fine, but trimming the start times of the regions is tedious when I want to just "bounce and go" -- especially when there is no distinct downbeat in the processed recording (verby/granular stuff). I'm jazzed thinking about the Integrator plug compensating for the latency and just boucing and dragging back into Logic. I did get a firewire card, too, just in case, but haven't installed it yet as I had success with the Flame, an Ensemble, and a Duende all running on the same FW bus. I've since sold the Duende (more power than I needed), and intend to replace it in the chain with the X32. Of course, we'll see what crazy bandwidth problems happen. At any rate, I'm prepared. I'll let you all know what transpires as soon as I get the X32. I'm expecting it within the next two weeks, but really hoping for Friday. Peace Free
