  1. Thanks so much for your help David. It's been driving me crazy
  2. Yes, it worked. So what exactly was the problem?
  3. I see what you're saying. If i block data sent to my keyboard, then I can't properly use external instrument tracks. Well, it comes down to this. I'm not sure why Logic is messing up all kinds of settings and parameters on my keyboard when I use it. Things like creating a new track loads the default piano instrument on my keyboard, for instance. It's very strange. Operating within Logic is messing with my Keyboard settings. I'm just trying to find a solution. I am willing to settle with not using external instruments (and just using Logic) if it means I don't have to deal with this issue anymore
  4. I do both. Depends if I want to use my keyboard's instruments or VI's like Alchemy
  5. It's a Yamaha MOXF8 connected through USB. I use it to record MIDI regions exclusively
  6. Ok, first off I want to apologize if this is already a thread. I searched around (google and these forums), I really did and couldn't find a resolution. I'm not the most amazing at research. But to get to the point. I'm not sure what I may have tinkered with, but as of recently logic has been manipulating parameters on my keyboard (for instance, changing instruments when I add a new instrument track or adjust settings). Clearly, Logic is sending MIDI information to my keyboard which is messing with all kinds of things. For all intents and purposes, I cannot adjust this via keyboard. How can I block Logic from sending MIDI information to my keyboard. I only want it to receive MIDI data. Thanks in advance
  7. Hi. I've followed a couple tutorials - and even called Yamaha support - to help, but they referred me back here. I'm using a MOXF8 keyboard. So, I actually have two questions. 1. When I create an external MIDI track, for some reason I hear an overlapping playback of the same instrument. But this only happens when I add a second external MIDI track. And it only plays twice on the first track. Weird. What is causing this, and how can I fix it? 2. To start, I can create an external midi track and am able to get playback (using program changes on an empty region) for the corresponding instrument on my keyboard. However, I am unable to figure out how to do a multiple program changes at the same time, on different tracks. I'm trying to get playback for multiple instruments on my keyboard, simultaneously. (I've tried creating a second external instrument and setting it to the next channel, then adding a region to the second track with a different program change. But it just plays the external instrument from the first.) I really appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks a bunch
  8. Never mind. I figured it out. Thanks so much everyone. Take care
  9. That's weird. I don't see an option for auto backup in project handling. Maybe I'm oblivious. I only see "startup action", "default template", "when i open a project file ask to close current projects", and "export midi file" Note: I wonder if this has something to do with alias folders within the directory. Maybe i'm clueless. But i just know my "setting" option on channel strips would not work after th update either. Then someone showed me I needed to delete some alias and copy/past a folder over. Could this be related? Still, I would think that would be in my settings..
  10. Hi. I got an issue. It's pretty straightforward: Logic 10 used to save up to 10 backups/alternatives. Now, it only saves 1. This happened immediately after I updated my OS to Sierra. You can see how this is problematic. I looked around some forums and scoured through Logic's settings, but could not figure out how to fix the issue.. I apolgize if this was answered in a previous thread. I searched but was unable to find an answer. Thanks in advance for your help. Much appreciated.
  11. Hi, I was wondering if there was a way to disable sustain just for one armed track. The reason being: piano + strings in real time. It would be nice to be able to sustain the piano, without the strings ringing out. It's kind of a problem. This seems like an obvious feature to me, so I really hope there's a way to do this. (I'm using Logic Pro X, btw) Thanks in advance!
  12. Thank you. I thought that might be the case. There is a sensitivity setting - 4 levels in fact. However, it does not fix the issue.
  13. Ok, so I just bought the Yamaha Digital Piano P-45. MY INITIAL GOAL: I chose this model because I wanted a realistically weighted action keyboard, without the bells and whistles - since I could use my DAW for software instruments and such. FYI, I use Logic Pro X on a MacBook Pro. THE PROBLEM: The keys feel pretty great, however there is a strange issue. The minimum possible velocity that I can hit is like 24, and I have to press the key as slowly and gently as humanly possible to even achieve that. The highest possible velocity I can hit is 122, and I have to slam the key - nearly breaking it. Even when I use the on board instruments without running through my DAW, the dynamic range still feels limited. So, I have a few questions: 1. Is there a way to adjust the min-max dynamic range through my DAW/MAC in order to reach the lowest/highest velocities? 2. Is this simply an issue with some keyboards, specifically electric pianos (since they are not optimized for MIDI/DAW's)? It appears this function was intentionally built for novices, seeing that it squishes the velocities together so that your performance seems more consistent. That's a horrible way to learn if that is the case... This just won't do. I mean, anything I play dramatically loses personality as a result this problem. I don't know how I didn't notice it sooner. 3. If this is simply a hardware problem and there is no solution, is there a comparable weighted action electric piano (W/ MIDI) that utilizes proper dynamic range? Budget is somewhere around $600. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.
  14. I'm sincerely baffled by this one. This isn't the first time this has happened to me either. So, I'm gonna run through what I did exactly to give some context to the issue. First, I recorded several MIDI tracks (using virtual plugins). Next, I manually inputed curve automation for expression and modulation using piano roll. Then suddenly, the most recently recorded MIDI region randomly decides that I'm not allowed to use curve animation. Known Symptoms (only within that specific MIDI region): 1. I have to double click in order to add automation dots (whereas all other regions require only one click). 2. Curve automation simply does not work. 3. Automation acts unresponsive/uncooperative in general. I tried taking the MIDI notes from that uncooperative region and pasting them into a MIDI region of another track (which previously had curve automation working in it) and the SAME issue presented itself. So, it's definitely nothing to do with the track itself. Then again, how could it even be the MIDI region? All I did was copy and paste the notes in piano roll from one region to another.. I could re-record. That does not sound fun to be completely honest, but we've all had to do it many, many times. Still. In all reality, I will probably run into this issue again - seeing as it has already happened at least once before. I really want to know what the deal is. All the parameters seem exactly the same between the regions that have properly working automation and the region that doesn't. That is, as far as I can tell... Thanks in advance for any help/info you can provide.
