  1. I am producing a track and am using a reference track in my project as inspiration but the reference track is slightly slower than mine and I want to be able to seamlessly compare the two while working. Currently, my project is 124bpm but the reference track is 123bpm. How can I speed up this reference track within the project so that it matches the tempo of my project?
  2. Thanks - sorry i should have been more descriptive - I don't mean the vertical height of the whole soundwave, I mean little thin soundwave lines all the way through with no clear gaps or open spaces where the breaks are - but on the mixed version, you can see the gaps. I've updated the second link to highlight the areas that I mean. Then if you compare the two soundwaves, you will see that the unmixed version does not show these gaps. Hopefully that's clearer!
  3. So I'm very visual person and I want to understand why the soundwaves of my tracks look the way they do. I've noticed that all of my tracks tend to have no real separations in the soundwave. See the soundwave below, it has no gaps, just these thin kind of "constant" thin lines all the way through: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bjtaq5co0a8d7l6/Screenshot%202018-08-02%2014.58.07-1.png?dl=0 But, here is the same track after a mixdown (arrangement is the exactly the same as the one above): https://www.dropbox.com/s/9pi5qyu6wln901n/Screenshot%202018-08-02%2014.58.07.png?dl=0 Curious to know why that is - could this be to do with the lower frequencies being cut out in the mixdown? (sorry about the links I had no luck embedding them!)
  4. Hi, I'm just starting to use Drummer and I love it, but I'm trying to separate all of the individual drums onto separate tracks so I can mix them, but the menu option to do this under MIDI seems to be greyed out and I'm not sure why? Can anyone help? Or is there an easier way to separate the drums tracks that I'm missing? Here's a screenshot: https://www.dropbox.com/s/nz10t1h0l838sga/Screenshot%202018-07-12%2016.18.06.png?dl=0 Thanks in advance! H
  5. I have been experiencing this issue for years with Logic and I can't work out how to fix it. And now that I have a BRAND new fully loaded MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017 with 3.1 GHz Intel Core i7) - I know my computer is not the issue. And it looks like it's pushing my CPU. Here's a screenshot of the CPU meter from the project I'm working on. https://www.dropbox.com/s/qs3p9vpjc54f20p/Screenshot%202018-03-31%2021.19.21.png?dl=0 This project has about 40 tracks which, some of which have plugins (including Drummer, Massive and Ultrabeat) on them but most of the project is audio. I really don't think I'm doing anything out of the ordinary. Can someone explain why this might be happening and how I can fix it?? Any insight on this annoying issue would be super appreciated!. Thank you!!
  6. Hi all, I am getting back into making music again after a very long break and I need to update my external soundcard to accommodate some new gear I've accumulated. Sadly, my old beginner Edirol Soundcard is no longer suitable. I'd love to hear some of your recommendations on a decent and affordable sound card that would be suitable for hooking up some analogue and digital synths and to also record vocals. Would also be ideal if it could work with iPad/iPhone, too. Here's my set up: - Macbook Pro 15" 2017 (3.1GHZ Intel i7) running OS10.12.6 (*I also have an iMac, Mid-2012 I would like to use this with*) - Logic X - Novation Bass Station - Cyclone TT-303 Bass-Bot - Maschine MIKRO - Rhode NT1A - Midi Keyboard I'm looking for something in the price range of £150-200 ($200-300). Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Thanks!
  7. @Eric Cardenas - thank you very much! That makes sense. Sorry, I should have been more specific. My intention was to use the sample in various different keys. @MikeRobinson - thanks for that additional comment, that makes it clear. Both have been very helpful - thank you!
  8. Hi all, I'll start by saying that I've little music theory knowledge, so this might not come as easy to me as others so I'm hoping someone can help! I'm trying to be sure I fully understand how to correctly map a sample into the EXS24 so that the key I trigger on the keyboard corresponds with the correct key of the sample So for example, here I have a one-hit bass sample in the key of B... When I drag it into the EXS24, it shows that the "key" in the sampler is set to C3 (see screenshot attached).... I understand that this is middle C on the keyboard, but since the key of the sample is actually B, should I change the "key" from C3 to B? And also - what do I do about the "key range"? Thanks in advance for the help. I know it's prob simple for some, but it's just one of those things that has always been a snag for me! H
  9. Hi, Does anyone know if it's possible to rename or move the Logic project folder? I'm trying to reorganise my music projects in a way that is most efficient for my work flow and it would make more sense for me if I could have the Logic folder as a sub-directory in a folder where all my Music related stuff is. I also want to be able to name it with a number so I can keep it at the top. So for example: user / Music / My Band Name / 01. Logic Projects...) Has anyone been able to do it with it working seamlessly without having to hit "Save as" each time? I'm using Logic 9 by the way. Thanks!
  10. Cheers for your reply David...my answers below. Yes, they did. As aforementioned, I have already installed them. And these are all .nmsv files. My initial concern was that these patches were being sourced from the original folder that I unpacked them in (on my desktop). Seems though you answered my question about whether logic copies them somewhere else or not - as I would prefer these files be kept in a "safer" place, (i.e. in a folder within the logic directory, not on my desktop). So I presume that if I were to move this folder, these patches would no longer work in logic? Which I guess also means I should save them where I want and re-import them? Ok cool, thanks - makes sense. It's what I've been doing, just double checking. As above, these are all the other sample and files: midi files (.mid) rex files (.rx2) apple loops (.aiff) .wav files I like to keep my stuff super organised and straight forward. I guess I just saw these as all sound sources (whether sound files or patches) that should live in a single place "i.e. Sound Bank" - rather than a few different directories, sub directories (Application support vs Audio) - I know that's Logic's saving system, but was just wondering if there was a simpler way is all..... Thanks again for your help!
  11. Hello all.... Was hoping I could get some ideas on how everyone organises their sound libraries. I am using Logic Pro 9 and have just purchased some great new loops, samples and patches to use with Massive - but I'm not sure where is the best place to be saving these. Currently I have a folder outside of Logic called "Sound Library" (in my documents) where I put any new sounds that I buy. I seem to have successfully installed all the new patches from that folder into Massive. But does anyone know if Logic / Massive "copies" these files over to somewhere else in the Logic directory (I couldn't find them elsewhere) - or will Logic read these from my original folder ("Sound Library")? I'm paranoid that I will overwrite the original file with any changes I make in Massive, or that I'll do the same with any samples I edit say in the EXS24. In this new library, I also have : midi files, rex files, apple loops as well as wav files - one hits, synth and drum loops, etc. I've noticed that Logic saves Apple Loops in a totally different location : Library > Audio > Apple Loops > Apple to where samples are stored : Library > Application Support > Logic > EXS Factory Samples -- or -- Library > Application Support > Logic > Ultrabeat Samples. I have also noticed the directory: Library > Audio > Sounds > Banks?.... which confuses me more. I guess I'm trying to understand the logic behind all these different file locations.....?? I've also read it's best to keep plug-ins / samples / sound files on an external drive.... aaarrrgghhhhh!!! Would be good to hear any tips / advice on ways everyone organises their files. At the moment, mine feel all over the place and nothing of the above in Logic seems logical to me! Any help would be hugely appreciated
  12. Thanks for that. Makes TOTAL sense. In fact after I read my post, I realised that of course if the outputs were selected it could only go left or right (!!). I had just read posts on other forums which explained to do it this way but maybe it was in reference only to hard panning and I misunderstood. I didn't know about the direction mixer, this is hugely helpful. Cheers!!
  13. Hi, I'm experimenting with trying different tracks in my project in both mono and stereo to see what sounds better in the mix.... Being a total novice, I've not gone into depth with this stuff ... But as I understand, mono means everything is bang in the middle of the mix.... however when I switch the mono on any of my tracks ( i.e. baseline, my drums, etc... ) - either using the output menu or using the little circle button on the channel strip), the sound is coming out of only left (if I choose Output 1) or right (if I choose Output 2). I might be totally missing something but if mono is dead centre - is there a reason for why it might be coming out of the left (or right)? Here's a screenshot to show what I'm selecting: http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b600/heidiroderick/ScreenShot2013-01-19at122955_zps43f9460e.png
  14. Hi, Thanks for that! Sounds helpful. I'll give it a try and let you know how i get on! H x
