  1. Thank you @David Nahmani - this seems to be a classic case of my memory making up a feature that was never there.
  2. Thanks for replies to this. I feel sure that "second cycle pass" was a (tickable) region bounce option in the arrange window at some point in the past, but can't find anything to support that! Was it in Logic 9?
  3. Hi, can someone please advise how to enable bounce second loop pass in the bounce in place menu? I have previously used this feature but am unable to use it now as the checkbox is greyed out, both on 10.7.4 (Monterey) and on 10.6 (Catalina) I'm not the only one: I have tried to find the answer on google to no avail.
  4. Please excuse the bump... Any ideas? I can't seem to find any other posts about it on the interweb!
  5. I'm on Logic Pro X 10.2.1 on Yosemite and using an AKAI MPK 225 with rotary encoders. If I map the rotary encoders directly to a synth (tried 2 U-He synths with this) then the behaviour is what I would expect from encoders: when selecting a new patch in the browser, the on-screen controls obviously represent the patch values, and moving the encoder adds or subtracts from the patch default position, i.e. there is a relative movement. That's the benefit of encoders, right? So, I do not get this behaviour when using the smart controls as an intermediary, which is my preference. I have mapped a rotary to the smart controls using MIDI CC messages which are "INC/DEC2" on the Akai. This means the encoders are sending out 127 for increment and 0 for decrement, They will change the smart controls just fine, and in turn change the parameter on the synths. When changing patches, the synth parameters change obviously, and the smart controllers follow suit and show the patch value. BUT, when moving the rotary encoder, the smart controls jump to the value they were at on the previous patch. Which, you know, kind of isn't the point of rotary encoders. Attached is the smart control setting. Any ideas where I'm going wrong with the smart controls? Bit baffled! thanks in advance Ed
  6. So now, after spending a few days researching what new audio interface to buy to allow myself to record using Logic Pro X, I decided to try installing the software for my (long term loaned) Focusrite Saffire Pro 10 i/o "just in case" it worked. I was told back in 2012 by Focusrite that it wouldn't work past Lion, hence the hold back on upgrading. Damn thing worked (almost perfectly) straight away. Quick reboot (it was losing audio out from logic when left idle) and so far, so good, and despite my initial suspicion that latency would be worse (it seems worse in Logic X compared to 9 for internal output), it appears to be exactly the same: 11.9 ms at 128 buffer at 44.1khz, which I find acceptable, in fact, I'm not sure I can notice it. Happy days, although yet to try more than one audio input at a time....
  7. How's it going now? Thinking of getting one (an id14). Really wanted thunderbolt though, but this seems to have great features for the price. Worried about latency though - I like to play with an FX chain and amp sims too. Looking into that new babyface pro but it's a lot more.
  8. Okay, so I have now downloaded Logic Pro X. I have just made a track stack using Alchemy. I nearly wet myself. This is unreal. Thanks for your help. So far, I prefer it to 9, although using screen sets with full screen mode crashes it (twice) and the change in key commands is annoying. Also, can't seem to select all notes and reduce velocity. Off to google for that one. Thanks again!
  9. And here I am back in good ole Lion, having verified my ageing Focusrite still works (well, why wouldn't it I guess). Thanks for the support and advice, appreciated! Option-boot not working correctly though - had to change bootup in system prefs. I think I read about a fix when googling though, so no biggie.
  10. Well, I'm posting this from Safari in OS X Yosemite, so....so far so good, let's see if I can get back to Lion....
  11. Hmmm, maybe it's time to buy a drive then, thanks for the advice. Now...to move my current logic folder onto that drive...I shall google it.....
  12. Thanks for the advice. I'm summoning up the courage to try it. (and backing up first!) I normally record audio to my internal drive, because I mainly work with audio units and record no more than one channel of audio simultaneously. Never had a problem so far - I guess I'm a pretty casual user!
  13. Hi, has anyone any experience of partitioning their internal drive to install a newer OS for the purpose of dual boot? I am running Logic 9.1.8 on Lion which is "as it was out the box" when I bought it in 2012. I've deliberately avoided upgrading as I have a (borrowed) focusrite which isn't compatible past Lion, and, to be honest, everything seems to work well enough for making music. However, I now have ios9 on my 4s which won't talk to iTunes now, safari won't do google street view - the cracks are beginning to show in terms of compatibility with the net and newer tech, and to boot I'm also getting itchy to try Logic X, especially with Alchemy now being part of the deal. So, I found out recently I can partition my drive (I've got lots of space) and install Yosemite and try Logic X and so on from there, with a dual boot, and boot to Lion for my old (i.e. current) setup. Is this a bad idea? Will I regret it and break something? Should I try it on a USB drive first? Any advice, would be very gratefully received. thanks all. Ed p.s. it's a 2.6Ghz MBP with a 7200 750gb Drive and 8G ram.
  14. Okay. Install MIDI monitor if not already installed: http://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/ Load up MIDI monitor with your MPK attached. Check the note received and the velocity in the monitor. Chances are it will be ok. Load up a blank project in Logic and check if you can get any response from any instrument for problem notes. If there's still no sound from Logic, perhaps a control assignment has been created for the key(s)? I'm no expert on this - so would welcome a more knowledgable input - but I think you can assign MIDI notes in controller assignments and this prevents the MIDI from travelling any further into Logic. So Command-K will open your assignments window (still largely a mystery to me this area) and you could look in there? You said you could see the note in the editor - do you mean the transport, or the piano roll? If it's the piano roll, then check the velocity, and try a different instrument. Good luck!
  15. Hmmm, Could you open the CPU history window in Activity Monitor and try again - just to check if it IS CPU or if it is something else. Also, could you download Soundflower and see what happens with input from that source? Out of ideas apart from that...perhaps it is compatibility between the soundcard and logic?
