  1. Hello Guys, Long time no visit. So my late 2011 MBP has died on me, out of warranty and lying useless. I was thinking of going Mac mini, but also considering a Hackintosh, mainly for the excitement of building my own computer with the way I want and of course, having more power for the money Id spend for the MacMini ( i5, 4gb Ram,500GB, about 750$). So my questions are: 1) I am a heavy Logic 9 user, with the budget of 850$ (Rs.50,000 India), what model of a Mac I can compare it to? In terms of performance. 2) Thinking of upgrading to X. Are there any compatibility issues? 3) I've read that something could always be not working, whats the worst case scenario here? 4) How reliable is it when it comes to Software upgrades? Any one using a Hackintosh? Hows your experience? Thanks -Farhan
  2. So good to see someone from my roots. Brings back all the memories. This sounds like your proper Melodic trance, sounds good but i think it would be better to comment on the composition when its complete 100%. On a technical note, 1) The first thing i noticed was some lacking in your High end, as in sounds thin, you could use 1-2 more closed hats panned to opposite side of each other ( Which will also add to the width of the track). I have a tech trance impression of this track, which may not be your goal, but id suggest maybe try making your hi hats a little more crisp. 2) Your lead. Not so sure, but try having a cut at 500hz, with a 36db/oct curve (keep playing around that zone). My feeling is that your lead is best fit in this frequency range, doing this should help you get some breathing in your mix and also help you gel your other elements. Also add some stereo delay to it, preferably faster paced. This should help your lead sound wider as well as more interesting. 3) You COULD add another element there, like a another sidechained lead or something, your choice ofcourse. Will sound fuller. Getting that professional sound is definitely practise, and when it comes to fullness, keep in mind that your number of elements going together dictate the clarity (and loudness potential) of your track. Less is powerful. Good luck and good melody there -Farhan
  3. I guess your external synths are recorded into Audio channel? Try opening a new Audio track -> select your Microkorg as an input -> hit the record button and play your notes.
  4. I've been following this guy for a quite a while now. On his youtube channel, he has several mixing related videos up. One of those is a 3 part series titled "5 minutes to a Better Mix" wherein each 5 minute video shows you mixing related different tips & tricks. I highly recommend you follow this guy, very easy to understand and precise. Heres the link to Part 1 of 3:
  5. Thanks Rich for the lyrics. Cant wait to hear the new version, maybe simply upload and share the new link? Also, for your (and everyones) future point of reference, try these video series out: Ive only linked you to part 1 as a starting point, but make sure you see other parts as well. Its spot on and fantastic.
  6. Hi Rich, The song has a great theme. Can you please post the lyrics? Also, here are my 2 cents: 1) The drums sound a little thin. 2) Guitar is too prominent. Also, maybe try a little bell eq around 100-200 range? Feel theres a little mud there. 3) Vocal sound ducked to me too, maybe the prominent guitars a problem. I tried them on my cheap 10$ earphones (which i know in and out), but still just my observation.
  7. Good Musical Idea, seems like influenced from the current EDM sound. Lacks low end in my opinion, at least for since im from that background and prefer bass in such type of songs. Good variation you got there at 1:05, nice hard percussion in there. Did you migrate from Logic 9 to X? How has been your experience?
  8. Hi Guys, An Update: Last week i gave my laptop to a local authorised Apple service centre, got it back last saturday, about a week 's of usage, while im reinstalling all my programs and files, today had a freeze and hard reboot was only out. The twist this time is, that i had temperature monitor on, and the temperature this time was ABSOLUTELY normal. Infact one of the CPU cores peaked at around 90 degrees yesterday but still worked fine. The diagnosis report was that everything is absolutely fine, they COULD NOT detect and hardware issue. I did some research and found that this support could be more relevant to Mountain Lion. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4158984?start=15&tstart=0
  9. Hello there! Good to see a fellow dance music lover around. Quite a good song here, gotta like the piano. Though id personally prefer a little more bass in your mix. But still a good composition over all

Something im really proud of because it was finished in a never expected short span of time i.e 3 days. This is basically a contest entry (always a good thing to download parts off other songs, adds up to your library), Id appreciate if you vote, but this is just a Music Showcase http://play.beatport.com/contests/josh-wink-balls/521bd7a8b8ed744031ac8b23
  11. Eric thanks for the link. Had a look at it but i dont find it too hopeful. But I'm now thinking that for once i should give it for diagnosis in a local service centre. Like Triplet, a friend also suggested that its a logic board issue, do you or anyone else here know how much would be the cost of logic board replacement if i ship it to the United states, here in India can go above 500 USD. And another update, still running logic pro smoothly if i speed up the fan at 4000rpm once the temperature crosses 60 degree celcius.
  12. UPDATE: Used my same logic pro project for the last one hour with my fan speed revd upto 4000rpm. Seems like a temporary solution.
  13. Will update in a few days. So far normal browsing, listening to music and other things arent problematic at all.
  14. Only when it get intense. Like yesterday's test. I have ordered a thermal paste, gonna clean up the fans and apply the paste. If still no, then take it to a service center. In the mean time im gonna speed up my fans manually while using logic. What are you suggesting is the problem if not fans/thermal paste? How much should i save up? Why is it always the good guys? Wait. You said that its always 6000 rpm once its past 65 something degrees? If you see my first image its at 2000rpm even at 70 degrees?
