  1. I've did the update. didnt help. Yes i understand the idea of using less heavy plugs. but the session isn't so heavy at all. I run projects in ableton live with 5 times as many plugs.. How can i switch to 64 bit mode ?? lets try that
  2. hi all, I'm running logic 9.0.0 Macbook pro 4gig. I get confronted with the "out of memory" window quite a lot. there's never a warning of almost running out of memory, as logic manual suggests. It just says out of memory resulting in a crippled session which doen't do anything usefull anymore. Resulting in not being able to save projects, plugins not opening their editor while selecting them. I have this problem more when using NI maschine. This is my main sound source. Since the last NI update you can load plugins into maschine on every group which can get pretty heavy. Also instruments etc. Even when deactivating them i don't get the problem fixxed. i did the test with a regular session in logic. not using maschine. And in time i get the same memory issues. what's the deal with this. Many people are experiencing this but coudn't find a good solution yet. Yes you can delete all cpu heavy s#!+. and sometimes it helps. but its supposed to handle basic sessions right ?? whats the deal .. Anyone out there that can help me out ??
  3. hey, I use the triggegfinger from m-audio myself. I've done some research before buying this. As far as I read the reviews, I would not recommend buying he akai mpd 16. The new one from akai looks pretty nice to. Anyways, it's a great tool for the studio. I use it all the time. It has a lot of knobs you can assign to anything. It makes your beats all the more realistic, and it's just a great tool which gives you a different way of controlling yr sounds, it's not like a midi keyboard at all. Greets
  4. my experience with my digi is that I just can't use it with logic. With protools I can have serious mixing sessions no problem, but when using it with logic, it just can't handle it. As I said my internal sound card on my laptop performs better than my digi 002 with logic 7. Cheers Moshi
  5. of course entroducing is a classic in my book, since I'm a trip hop lover, or instrumental hip hop or abstract hip hop whatever they call it. I would definetely also look into RJD2's music. He's got some nice instrumentals like the song 'the horror' or 'chicken-bone circuit. Then there's coldcut (my hero) his early work on 'let us play' are the bomb. I wouldn't really call this hip hop but it comes close. tracks like 'timber' or 'more beats + pieces' are pretty cool. BTW He also was mpc fanatic and triphop pioneer. The herbaliser also have great hiphop instrumentals. I love the way they handle their sound it's fabulous, still not sure how they do it. I often use their tracks as a reference they're lovely. 'Moon sequence' 'shattered soul' 'sensual woman (from session one cd) the session one CD is a great hip hop instrumental cd with plenty of cinematic stuff and soul. Another personal favourite is dr. Octagon 'the instrumentalist' a full instrumental cd with great tracks. have fun with them cheers Moshi
  6. I started to study recording arts because I had such an interest in music, and the emotional response it gives me. But then when my studies were finished, which was last year, I kind of lost my focus in music for a while, even my interest in music vanished. I think this was because I get obsessed with the sound, so I had trouble enjoying the music. As a result I also had this huge writersblock... I kind of solved this problem now. What i did was spend some time every day playing all cd's records and mp3's, whatever I had, and just focus on enjoying the music on an emotional level. Then whatever track I thought was great, which triggered a strongest emotional response, got organised in my 'favorite tracks section'. since then I'm back on track basically. I got a better Idea if what I really like musically but also sonically now, just because I study the music I really really like. I know exactly what I want to write know, so I'll sit down and say I'll record a beat that's a bit like that track and try to make that athmosphere of that other track but then better... Now i really get the feeling I'm casing the magic again..
  7. hey elvidge, Funny that you ask this. I had a student a few months ago when I was supervising at school. He was trying to finish of his Logic assignments which were on logic 7. He had used logic 5 for a while, but he was honestly quite shocked about the differences between the two... I never used logic 5 so I really don't know.
  8. -Micheal Jackson, thriller. i was still a kid ok -the Prodigy, experience , my introduction into electronic music -Coldcut, let us play... has been the major shock in my life!!! -DJ shadow, entroducing -Aphex twin selected ambient works, on of those soundtracks of my life. and of course...Come to daddy, yeah that was shocking -Kruder & Dorfmeister the K&D sessions, i definetely stopped breathing there for a moment...This is the one for me These definetely have been the major CD's in my life and I still listen to all of them.
  9. your grandma is going to love it!
  10. Logic would be right for you. I was a protools user. The problem with that was the Midi handicap of PT. Also getting the right plug-ins for protools can become an expensive journey. Also you don't have any software instruments on PT. I make triphop and breaks, and logic has been great to me. www.myspace.com/theaudiosyncratics . I did prefer mixing in protools because it's so much more like your regular mixing console, also the routing in PT is great. But trust me you can do exactly the some in logic, and more. you configure it the way you want. And definetely for electronic music it will be yor favorite playground! cheers.
  11. the publications of "Mix, pro audio series" are some of the better publications out there. Ondoubtedly they have something about mastering. Also check out the Sound on Sound article archive online. Their articles have been of great help to me over the years and are really up to standard. cheers, moshi
  12. hey jelvidge, Ideally recording your line I/P should give a good result. I have a jp8080 which i often record. I got a very low signal and also a lot of noise. You could try to use a DI (direct injection box, or direct input). you would normally do the same when recording a guitar or bass directly into your system, (without the use of a microphone). As a result (you reduce an instrument's line-level output to mic level, you change the instrument's unbalanced, high-source impedance line to a balanced, low-source impedance signal). In addition you electrically isolate the audio sinal paths and thus you reduce potential for ground loop or hum, noise... this ground lift might solve the problem.
  13. regular visitors must get tired of this discussion...here we go again the metric halo and RME are highly recommended here for logic. Despite an awfull lot of suggestion, I'm opting for a motu interface. how are these with logic? Obviously audio quality comes first, then ease of use and flexibility.... cheers, Moshi
  14. can a use a mackie d8b as a full functioning control surface for logic ? as far as I know the d8b runs on dedicated software. I like the controller, have worked with it several times. Hope i can hook it up with logic? cheers, moshi
