  1. Hallo friends, after years of using Logic I am trying to set up a Node. Without success What works: a LAN connection between my two Macs. I used automatic configuration, under TCP/IP Configured IPv4 Using DHCP. I can connect to the file server from / to each of my Macs. I can mount hard drives, share internet connections... I installed Logic Node app on my MacBook and I used the Logic Node installer located in utilities folder on my dualG5 (I am trying to use MacBook as a node and Dual G5 as a Master computer). I started the Node app on MacBook first, than launched Logic app on dualG5. Without opening new project I opened Preferences / Audio / Nodes. Now: I can see my MacBook available (not with grey letters). No box is checked (near "Enable Logic Nodes" or near "MacBook" under Node). So I check "Enable Logic Nodes". I can see Initializing Core Audio is working. Than I try to check the box near my MacBook node, but I can' t. The whole line turns into darker grey as soon as I select the checkbox, but nothing happens. when I try to select it another time, the popup window occurs and says: Logic Pro lost the connection to the Node "MacBook" Please relaunch Node application or check network connection My network connection seems to work fine, I can log in, mount drives, share internet... The Node app seems to be or it' s icon looks like connected in MacBook dock (and it says "Connected to G5"). What I found out is, that if I try to Quit the Node app on MacBook either when Logic is running on G5 or after I quit Logic on G5, I am never able to quit Node app on my MacBook normally as it stops responding, when I try to quit it. I always have to Force Quit this Node app... Now the second way I tried: started Node app on MacBook, launched Logic on dualG5. Opened Preferences / Audio / Nodes. Nothing is checked AND NOW I CHECKED the checkbox near the MacBook node FIRST. It can be done (remember nothing happened when I tried to check it after I checked "Enable Logic Nodes" checkbox). Than I checked "Enable Logic Nodes" , seems to be OK. The Node on MacBook says and looks like connected... I opened a project and created approx. 10 audio tracks. I inserted Linear phase EQs, Logic compressors, Deessers, EQs to them. I also inserted whole lot of Waves SSL bundle to some tracks, but kept Logic native and Waves plugins separate. The system was pretty maxed out. Now the maximum I could get whenassign a track to a Node processing, was that the Track Node button showed green arrow, but did not light green. Whing according to manual is: Sync Pending and not Enabled/Active. I even could see some tracks Enabled/Inactive. After spending last 24+ hours how to figure it out, I am asking for help. Here are some answers I expect you might ask: -yes, I have same versions of Logic and Node -yes, I have Waves SSL bundle installed on my MacBook, same version as on DualG5 -yes, I tried it with native Logic plugins only -yes, the Firewall is OFF on both machines (Preferences / Sharing) - I unchecked all Ports except "Built in Ethernet" on dualG5 and "Airport" and "Built in Ethernet" on MacBook in Preferences / Network Port Configurations -yes, I tried it with "Airport" unchecked also -yes, I tried to reboot many times - both machines. I put Node app into login items on MacBook. I tried to shut both machines of, start MacBook first, make sure Node is "on", started dualG5, launched Logic... -yes, I inserted so many plugins to so many tracks that may dualG5 gave me "System Overload" message everytime I tried to playback the project, but Node did not start to process... -no, I am not networking genius -I've got Parallels and WinXP installed on my MacBook, but they never run, when I tried Node setup (actually, I am almost never using them ) Any ideas appreciated, thank you. OS X 10.4.11 on both machines, Logic 8.0.2 LogicPro 8.0.2 ,dualG5 2,5GHz 4,5GB RAM, MacBook IntelCoreDuo 2GHz
  2. the only workaround I found was to create aliases of whatever folders I was working with and moved those aliases to my user/Audio/Logic folder This way I was able to find things faster with Logic Media Browser without custom bookmarks is the Logic Browser worth nothing for me...
  3. Why don't you use Drumagog? http://www.wavemachinelabs.com/
  4. a) leave it for (good) mastering engeneer or b) mix with that "louder" intention from the beginnng. Anything you'll put on the main output after your mix is finished will change the sound / feel. More or less. Try Sony Oxford Limiter - that is really better for your purpose than Vintage Warmer. Or some other uncoloured limiter. UAD precision Limiter, or TC Powercore has some limiter too. But as I wrote, raising up volume after the mix is done? I really leave it rather for mastering house (well if it is for preview purpose only, I rise the volume with some limiter if I need to). Also many forget that Logic has some cool feature called Audio Energizer - see page 510 in the manual. I tried it a few times and liked it. Personally, if I mix music and I want to make it loud, I mix to tape. Eh, I still mix to tape, from DAW to Hardware compressor (the Duende's Buss compressor is sometimes replacing it) , to tube EQ and to tape. Oldschool way for me in today's loudness battle. And I am addicted to watch tapemachine's reels - it makes me feel I AM in the studio Try the Audio Energizer. Simply import your bounced mix to a session, open the sample editor and you'll find it under Factory tab....
  5. um, does it have a "US Pop charts No. 1 Hit" finalizer, or "Multicharts winning Dynamics" plugins or what?
  6. well, I can say I do HATE Logic when it comes to EDITING of MIDI drums. As I am a drummer myself and I do have various drumkits (including eDrums like V-Drums and various Pintech and others plus various modules including Roland TD-20, Alesis DmPRo..) I FCKING HATE LOGIC'S MIDI EDITORS FOR EDITING DRUMS. I thought that Hyper Editor is good enough for CREATING (MIDI) drum parts. But when it comes to EDITING (MIDI) drums that were recorded by a man(woman) through triggers/eDrums, than my friends THAT is something I hate to do in Logic. It slowes me down. I do have my own studio/production facility, and I am recording/mixing bands. While I do love Logic for some things, it is certainly not for editing MIDI drums I wish I can became a consultant or something like that for apple for this thing - as I think their programmers have NO CLUE what real-world situations like mine are PS- I am very well experienced with MAtrix (PIano roll in L8) and Hyper Editors. They are not good enough, really not. For example, you can not mute a note in Hyper editor and moving notes in Hyper editor with a mouse is almost unusable for me - really buggy. I can do it with knobs of my Logic control, but not with mouse ( I am talking about fine adjustments here, when I do not want to use any quantization...)
  7. 1/ MOST IMPORTANT: make it BUG-LESS as much as possible, or at least write a new manual which will be in consensus with real Logig 8 behaviors 2/ Bring back Audio Configuration, or(better) implement something (better) like Import Session Data as ProTools do have Who the hell you think has the time for Saving, copying and recalling 80 and more ChannelStrip settings alll the time when working on an Album????? PING function for the I/O Helper Plugin to count ant compensate for latency of outboard gear hooked via I/O Plugin Drum editor - as Hyper editor is maybe good enough for creating MIDI Drum parts, it is almost unusable for editing drums recorded by live drummer on edrums or regular drums with triggers through MIDI interface... There are plenty of bugs and/or things in Hyper editor that are "nonsensual" (again, when it comes to editing of already recorded MIDI parts... I know that guys which are using Hyper editor for CREATIVE process - just for writing or creating-than they are defending Hyper Editor strongly...).
  8. Justin, did you read my suggestion? Maybe it seems too complicated, but it really takes only a few seconds to change I/O Labels. I use different I/O Labels quite often, so I know...
  9. btw, I do not think there is a Bus 576 or if there is, than it has to be a pretty damned looooooooooooong distance Reverb
  10. Yes. No Errrr- it does not have to I am using a simle AppleScript for changing (copying) my Pref. files such as Logic I/O Labels from my prefs "Database" folder to the destination folder(s). As the pref file has always have to have the same name, I am using a FolderBrander app to label my prefs files. Everytime you change your I/0 Labels setting, than you can copy the I/O Labels preference file to some other place in your computer, label it with whatever app or store it in a folder together with a text file explaining the situation -or HEY - I guess that "Get info" and write down some Spotlight comments should work as well! Than before start of a sesiion load (copy) the proper I/O Labels file to the proper directory and that's it. This way I am storing a different Keycommands (Controller preferences file) sets for my Yamaha01x. As the number of buttons that can be used for "Learn new controller assignment" is limited, I created various "sets" for various situations (Recording , MIDI-Editing, Audio-Editing, Mixing - Automating) which should cover my needs as the project developes in time. It is just necessary to load those preferences file(s) before start of Logic app. As I wrote, I am using a simple AppleScript, which copies the file from my "Database of preferences" file to user/Lib/Preferences... So it's one-two click of a button.
  11. I have more Folders in Arrange: I create a Screenset 1, showing the "inside" content of a Folder 1 and Lock this Screenset. Than returning back to this Screenset 1 from another doesn't mean returning back to the previously locked view - 99% of times I do not see the content of a Folder 1. The most top Arrange view is displayed instead. OR inside view of another Folder 2 or Folder 3 etc etc... No, no Link choosed. It seems to be messy now. Worked like charm in LogicPro 7... Anybody can confirm this please? Thanks
  12. what about using BFD in ReWire mode to Logic? never tried but it is possible, isn't it?
  13. ofcourse, I agree, NO EXCUSE to Fx Pansion. If other plugins work, they should work. No payment for that!
  14. I was hoping for some "good-news" answers But it seems, that latency compensation for external audio hardware is still not solved... Poor me, I have to switch back to Cubase, as I use outboard gear alot Anyone knows answers please?
  15. 1/ is it somehow easier to compensate for latency caused by added Audio hardware through I/O Helper plugin? Or is Cubase STILL ahead in this with it's "Ping" function for it's External (I/O Helper) plugin? 2/PDC, 3-rd party plugins & click before start of audio region Those who use some 3-rd party plugins (IK Multimedia Ampeg SVX, SSL Duende plugins, I guess that Native Instr. Guitar Rig also etc...) do know what I mean (click at the beginning of the track OR bbefore starting point of audio region). I wonder if THAT is solved. Thanks.
