  1. No worries dude. Connect midi out from your controller to midi in number 1 on your interface. . Now in your control panel, click on sounds, then audio, and make sure your sound card is selected in the main output and recording sections, and at the bottom section under midi, make sure your midi interface has been selected on midi channel 1. Now when you boot up Logic, under Audio preferences make sure your soundcard has been selected, and you should be away. Now when you open up a vst for example you should be able to trigger it via your midi controller. If you are using a old synth as the controller you will need to turn the volume off to hear the vst. Hope this gets you sorted. Rock On Jason Are www.templeoftears.com
  2. Lets look at your hardware synth first. There are 2 ways, one simple, the other can be a pain in the arse but that depends on the synth. So I take it for granted your usb midi interface is connected, drivers installed and all is well. First way: Take 2 midi leads. 'Out' of your synth and 'In' to midi interface. 'Out' of interface and 'In' to synth. Now in Logic create a new channel and make it midi channel 1. On the left hand side of the screen you should see your midi interface written there. If not click on that area and drag up/down and select your midi interface. On your hardware synth make sure it's sending on midi channel 1 and your set. If you program using the matrix editor, when you click on a note you should hear your synth. If you are wanting to trigger lots of sounds from your synth then this is the second way: Select the multi feature on your hardware synth and select the sounds you want to use on say channels 1,2,3,4. (consult manual) Now in Logic repeat all steps and create more midi channels 1,2,3,4 making sure the midi interface is selected on each one. As I was saying, for me, this creates more problems but give it a go. Hope this has helped, anything that doesn't make sense, I appologize, and let me know Jason Are www.templeoftears.com
  3. Best way is to mute all tracks except the midi track your wanting to record and say Audio channel 1. Hit record (arm) Audio ch 1 and it will ask you where you want to save the recorded wav (this will only happen the first time). Hit record on the transport bar and do a dummy run first and check the recording level on ch1 in the mixer section. Make sure it's nice and loud (without clipping) - increase your midi instrument input volume if you need to. Delete your dummy run and record it again. It's important to try and record the cleanest level possible to ensure the highest signal to noise ratio. Now you have audio recorded on Audio ch 1, ready for playback (you will probably need to reduce the volume in your mix) Hope this helps Jason Are www.templeoftears.com
  4. What you want to do is mute all your other channels except the midi channel you want to record and lets say Audio Channel 1. Arm the record button on Ch 1, hit record in the transport bar and it should ask you where you want to save this recorded wav to. So make a folder for it. Now do a dummy test first so you can check your source input level. Hit record and look at Audio Channel 1 in the mixer window and make sure you have a nice loud level, but not in the red (clipping). Adjust your source volume if necesssary. Stop the sequence and delete it from Logic. Re-start your recorded sequence until the section you want is finsihed and your done.
  5. Once your page is open (grey) can you select 'open arrange' in the menu? www.templeoftears.com
  6. Native Instruments Intakt is a good way of doing it. Load in one of the samples and it can chop it up into individual hits or loops depending on the sensitivity of the slices you set. Ie you can have the slices wide apart for a loop or super close for hits. www.templeoftears.com
  7. Your midi cable should be going from the midi out of your module to the midi in of your interface or soundcard, make sure the correct midi source has been selected in Logic. If you are using the matrix editor for example to plot in notes, or if your are wanting to record in real time, then Logic should trigger your module. Once your satisfied with your sequence bounce your midi date to audio. Hope that helps www.templeoftears.com
  8. I would suggest taking the logic song file from your friends computer and copying it onto your computer as well as any bounced audio files. Then on your computer open the song and re-direct Logic to locate the audio files you have copied. If your both running Asio drivers then you shouldn't need to re-launch. Make sure your soundcard has been selected in the audio drivers/preferences window and re-launch if necessary. Also make sure your running the same vst's as on your friends box. This should be all you need to do. Hope this helps. www.templeoftears.com
  9. I have the exact same problem. I have been putting up with it for ages and you have shed some light for me. I believe it to be one of 3 things. CPU, Ram, or Graphic. I run a P4 1.8 with 728 meg ram, so if your's is more powerful then it must be graphical. I suppose it could still depend on how many channels your running. Another possible theory is if like me your running 2 hard drives, one only for apps and the other contains all your audio, depending on the speed of your drives for the time it takes for logic to read off the second drive could be why it stops during playback. It is quite annoying because I would like to do EQ shifts during playback www.templeoftears.com
  10. Go to Options - Preferences - Key Commands Search for track automation event list and it will show you the hot key it's assigned to. Click on it and in the top left hand corner you can turn off that key - you'll figure it out. Then click on learn key, and select a key, I suggest using the F keys, press F1 for example, click off learn key and your done. Hope that helps www.templeoftears.com
  11. You need to make sure that on the audio channels in Logic the correct inputs are selected to correspond with your soundcard inputs. For example I have one of my synths going into input 1-2 on my soundcard, and on audio channel one for eg the inputs are 1-2. Obviously your outputs should already match your soundcard - Hope this helps www.templeoftears.com
