  1. I can add that the midi notes DO trigger the little piano roll keboard to appear to play those keys, but no sound. (Volume is all the way to the maximum and that new track is soloed.)
  2. Oh, I see that Kaatza Music may be having the same problem as me. I haven't done any updates in quite some time. (The track stacking probably doesn't have anything to do with it).
  3. OK. I wanted to insert a bass flute in my collection of winds. I flattened my winds summing stack and created a new software track within my wind instrument group and assigned a bass flute plugin there. I am unable to get a sound out of it. The new instrument sounds when I click on the little keyboard on the instrument interface itself, or on the little keyboard on the left side of the piano roll window, but the midi notes themselves do not trigger any sounds when the playhead passes over them. What am I forgetting?
  4. I can explain my goal yet one more time. I want to be able to automate the volume (or any other parameter that doesn't ordinarily stay constant during a project) for an entire section (Brass, Winds or Strings) at a time. If I wanted to have EQ on the violins only, I would put it in the audio fx place for that instrument only, whether or not I had that instrument on a "bus'. I've never found the mixer window to be very useful in understanding what configuration I had Never mind, David. I've got my Winds and Brass associated with what I've been calling "bus tracks", and they operate well the way I intended. I can automate parameters for both of those sections, using their respective "bus tracks" and . I'll copy their configurations for my Strings "bus track" along with it's associated channel strips.
  5. OK, I think you are imagining me changing the sound of the strings by putting a plugin on this "bus"or "Track stack" or whatever you want to call it that would remain at a constant value (say reverb or a delay) , since you want me to "leave automation alone for now". Do you see what I'm getting at, David?
  6. I'm trying to automate the volume of the string section as a group. I don't want to EQ the entire string section as a whole at this point. Only the violins. I was only using "channel EQ" as an example. That's why I wrote " eg. Channel EQ". As I thought I made clear, I want to automate the volume of the string section as group. I may want to change the sound of this section as well, such as by putting a reverb plugin on this track, whatever you want to call this track. "A bus is a bus. There's no such thing as a bus track or a bus truck or a bus xyz. Only "a bus". there's no such thing as a track for a bus"? Startling news. I've been using tracks assigned to buses in just the way I intended for them for about 10 years. This would be a track that has channel strips (places you can put plugins on). I expect that would mean these channel strips would be associated with tracks that would show parameters that can be automated with associated visible automation curves. In this case, I now have such a track (although it may not be called a "bus track" I think it's called a "sum track". I 'll call it whatever you want, so long as we both know what we're talking about. At this time, I think I have this "Sum track" and its associated channel strips set up wrong because they don't seem to work as I intended.
  7. I believe I did this by reassigning the bus truck to an auxiliary track in the mixer. The reason I'm trying to do this, is because, when composing full orchestral music, one or more of the sections, (Winds, Brass or strings) will be out of balance with the rest of the orchestra. It's usually best to deal with them as full sections, then fine tune the mix with the individual instruments. Just as you've guessed. Well, that worked slick! I'd never known what track stacks were all about. What channel strip do I use for putting plugins on, eg. Channel EQ? Setting this up has me puzzled. So, now I have a pair of channel srips as alway. I have the left strip with the little double circle symbol and "bus 7" the summing track, the same for the right channel strip. I've placed a Channel EQ on the right channel strip (although it would only affect the violins). Both channel strips are set to "touch". I hear sound only for a second or two, but the sound quickly fades completely.
  8. I've tried to set up a bus track for just my string instrument. The bus for this is bus# 3. I have each string instrument outputting to bus 3 and the bus track showing the little double circle at the top of its channel strip with it outputting to stereo out. The mysterious part comes wit automation: Moving the the volume curve up and down moves the slider on the left side of the channel strip pair and works for all the strings, but leaves the slider on the right unmoved and has no effect on the audible volume. Both are set on "read". How do I automate the slider the slider that controls the volume coming from just my strings?
  9. Well, that seems to work fine, so long as I'm satisfied with using the channel eq plugin instead of the lowpass filter from the legacy instruments, but now I Have another mystery. (I'll post a new question about this one).
  10. I want this to be a track for an output to a bus (with a low pass filter on it). No instrument. (it will be for all my solo instrument AUs). So, the question is, How do I create a new track in the first place that will serve as a bus and support a stereo low pass filter, or what do I do to this track so that it will support a stereo low pass filter that all my AUs can output to?
  11. Thank you, des, I fixed this once before, but for the life of me, I'm not finding it this time. What is the button called?
  12. Not too long ago, I was finding that the only plugins I could find for a newly created software instrument track were all mono. As I remember, I had to reassign that track to an ordinary software instrument track (auxiliary?) with stereo output. (In this case, I want that track to output to a bus). I created such a track, but the available plugins are still only mono. What have I forgotten?
  13. I changed the channel assignments in Logic's switcher to look like this. Same result as before with the Marcatto note missing, only this time, assigned to channel 3.
