  1. Hi Atlas 007-- Sorry for my delay in responding. I really appreciate your taking time to try and help. I apologize for not answering you sooner, it just didn't happen for various reasons. Certainly not out of a lack of appreciation. I don't understand how you were able to organize your responses the way you did - so I just kind of lumped all my answers into one diatribe. Thanks again for your kindness. Seems like there isn't all that much kindness going around these days. (in general) m I have tried all the options in the Recording Preferences > Audio Options: 1. Create Take Folder / 2. Create New Track / 3. Create Track Alternatives. None of these do what I am looking to accomplish. Essentially what I used to be able to do in Logic 9... I could cycle / record a bunch of takes... then upon review, I could delete individual takes or parts of an individual take (by command T or scissors - or dragging either end of the file inward.) I can no longer do this, regardless of which option I choose in Final Cut X > Recording Preferences . Audio > Cycle off or Cycle on. When I try to cut one take - Logic X cuts all takes. When I mute one take - it mutes all takes. (In take folder mold.) The other modes don't create virtual tracks. It does this same universal all track cutting or shortening in both the comp mode and in Scissors (cut mode). I cant seem to edit / cut / shorten individual virtual tracks - in folder, takes or track alternatives. I cant mute one virtual track, it mutes all the virtual tracks. Of course I can "unpack" the virtual tracks to actual tracks... but the reason I don't want to do this is that I like to play - lets say a bass or drum track - maybe 20 times and create 20 virtual tracks. And then go back and see if there is anything I want to keep on those virtual tracks. I want to nuke all the 'loser' virtual tracks -- and partial losers -- so after my initial review and deletions of virtual tracks, I may only have a couple virtual tracks to unpack. This way, I don't have to create a bazillion "unpacked tracks" and have to edit actual tracks." I find that when I create too many actual tracks - eventually my processor will stall. At around 150 tracks -- which is easy to get to if you create a lot of takes. The idea is to minimize actual track creation. Virtual tracks don't seem to have as big of an effect of my slow processor? The reason I haven't upgraded is that it's my understanding that my computer cant run any later versions of Logic Pro X. I am currently on Sierra 10.12.6 I hope I'm wrong? I also have a dual boot setup - so I can run some old programs.... so altogether it's painful (for me) to upgrade operating systems. I probably need a new computer... which I would rather avoid. So... that's where I am coming from. I realize sometimes new software doesn't do what the old software used to do. But I am hoping there is a way to allow for editing (cutting) capacity of individual virtual (cycle recorded) tracks - without having to unpack them all into real tracks. Does this make sense? Thanks for trying to help... it's very much appreciated. mark p PS. I created this response - then saved it as a draft, so I could make sure it made some sense. It took me about an hour to find where drafts are stored. Ha.
  2. In Logic 9 I used to be able to record multiple tracks in cycle mode (using the yellow bar locator on top / creating repeat recording on separate V (Virtual?) tracks. (My apologies for the imperfect terminology) When recording multiple audio tracks in L9, I could "cut" these individual V tracks - and keep only the pieces that I liked. In Logic X - I can not cut individual V tracks - it makes the same cut across all the V tracks. It does allow me to "Unpack to New Tracks" and then all the unpacked / seperate audio tracks are "cuttable" individually. When I cycle record in Midi (LX) it also won't allow cutting of individual V tracks... and when I Unpack the multi track midi recording - I still can't cut individual (unpacked) midi tracks. I have to copy each midi track to a newly created midi track -- and only then can I make cuts to individual midi tracks. In both Audio and Midi (using LX) all of the cycle / recorded tracks seem to become part of a Group? There is a vertical line on the far left of each V track... where the number of the track resides. Is there a way to turn off this function of grouping cycle / recorded tracks in LX? (For both audio and midi) It seems like there should be, but after much frustration, I haven't found it? I have messed around with my recording preferences (for overlapping recordings) - I tried: create track / create take folder (for both audio and midi) but I haven't been able to resolve this problem... screen shot attached. Any help would be much appreciated. Again I apologize for the miserably inaccurate terminology. Thanks, Mark P [/size] Logic 10.4.3 / Sierra 10.12.6
  3. I am trying to record multiple takes / (cycles) of Midi Drums - in Logic 10.4.3. (Roland V-Drums as trigger) I would like to be able to record multiple takes of "Producer Kits" -- so that each midi drum track would be completely editable. I have tried different settings in "Overlapping Recordings" preferences for midi... create tracks, create track and mute, create take folders, etc -- but none seem to record separate tracks -- and none of the takes include the normal producer kit controls. Also - when I go to mute or solo a cyclically recorded drum take track -- it mutes or solos all of the takes. Is there a way to separate these takes - so one track can be solo'd or muted, or do they all behave as a group? Is it even possible to record multiple takes of midi drums using Producer Kits? That are separately editable? That don't act like a group? I am mystified... Thank you for any suggestions. M
  4. But when I go into the scissors mode to edit a specific take (tack) to make a cut -- the scissors cuts all the take tracks? On Logic 9 it didnt cut all the track takes. Do I have a setting wrong? Or is this a change in LPX? Mystified.
  5. Im not sure either... I've only been on Logic X for a year or so, and I'm still learning (obviously). But I notice differences between Logic 9 and X in the multi-take area... maybe its just a setting in Logic X that I have not discovered, for example, like overlapping recordings? Or overlapping takes, or whatever that might be. For example, in 9, I could record multiple audio takes -- and cut each take track. In X I can record multiple audio track takes but when I go to edit one take, it cuts all the take tracks. And recording multi-takes of midi tracks in X seems to act differently - 9 to X. I cant exactly remember now, since I'm not in my studio. So essentially I see differences, and am thinking maybe this all has to do with some setting -- on overlapped recordings? Or does multiple takes just behave differently in X than 9?
  6. That could work, although it's not the preferred workflow learned in Logic 9... but thank you for the suggestion. I appreciate it. Hmmm -- I wonder if it has something to do with overlapping recording settings? M
  7. Hey Now -- - I haven't figured out how to edit individual take tracks in Logic X 10.4.3. (Is this version out of date? How do one upgrade? ) I used to be able to "cut individual take tracks" in Logic 9. Since upgrading to X, I cant figure out how to cut individual take tracks anymore? The Cut appears to cut all the takes - instead of just one individual take track. Is there a way to cut individual take tracks without having to "unpack to new tracks" first? Id rather not create so many individual tracks... Any help would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks, Mark P
  8. Thank you guys...I do appreciate your help.
  9. Thanks amigo... I really appreciate your taking time to respond and help me out. My old MAC would need to be updated to work in X, and I hear it's 63GB including the sound library? Available only as a download? Might you know if there a way to purchase a hard copy of something that large? So after updating from Yosemite to Sierra - would you happen to know if I can still run Logic 9 - with my old projects. Or would Logic 9 get wiped out - or not function with the upgraded OS? I hate upgrading... much rather be working on a project. There's a lotta sadness in this world. But hey thanks again.
  10. Hey Now -- I'm trying to record multiple takes (or v-tracks - not sure what you call them) in MIDI. I do this with audio files, simply set them little green boundaries and record multiple "takes". But I cant seem to do this while recording MIDI? Does MIDI multi-track? In the same way as an audio file multi-track? Obviously not. But can it be done? Can each take be edited and pieces of one midi track attached to another? Trick here is I'm still using Logic 9. I have been hesitant to upgrade to Logic X, since I'm sorta lazy and I like Logic 9. As a video maker I never upgraded to Final Cut X - since you couldn't file each project where you wanted it. You had to file everything within Final cut X. That doesn't work for me. I need to be able to send all the the project files to other people. So, is Logic X the same as Final Cut X? As in you have to file everything where it wants - instead of where I want? Or am I just confused as usual? Thanks, M
  11. I’m learning how to record midi V-Drums and Synth. And having issues…. using Logic 9. I can’t seem to record a cycle / loop - while recording midi software instruments from my V drums. When I record normal audio -- I set the green cycle loop and record multiple V tracks of audio. But midi just seems to write over the first track each time it recycles? Can midi be recorded on separate V tracks, like regular audio? And edited somewhat the same – as far as cuts and track volume anyway… Also don’t know how to separate midi tracks from each other. I can get all the midi tracks to appear as separate tracks, but when I go to mute one track – they all mute. When solo one track, they all solo. Is there a simple fix for this? And when I finally upgrade to X – will that include all the software instruments that 9 has? More or less? Thanks for your help. I sincerely appreciate it. Mark P
  12. Thank you both for taking time to help out... it's really much appreciated. M
  13. Thanks for taking the time to try and help. But I'm not sure what you mean..."Select Unused in the bin"? Actually I dont understand... Where is "The Bin"? I can see and understand the File > Project > Cleanup - but don't understand anything more than this - in your second post? Do these extra / unused audio files actually "burden the processor" or do they just take up space and look unclean? My interest is to allow the processor to handle large projects that they balk at occasionally? Will this help? Thanks again. M
  14. (still) Using Logic Pro 9.1.8 Does Logic Pro 9.1.8 have a method to remove unreferenced files from a song / project folder? I seem to remember that Final Cut Pro had a method to remove files that were not being used -- to reduce the size of a project? Does anyone know of a way to do this in Logic 9? The idea is to not burden my old Mac with lots of extraneous files that were recorded but never used... Or do those extra audio files even burden the processor if they are not referenced on the time line? Thanks for your consideration and expertise. ( I didn't see a forum for Logic 9, guess I better update one of these days! )
  15. Gee - that worked... Obviously I didn't know about those settings! Thanks for taking the time to help a brother out. Mark P PS. How do you mark this completed? As in problem solved, etc.
