  1. I transferred the project onto my computer HD and it seems to be loading very fast now so it must've been that the Lacie Rugged external drive is too slow. I didn't realise that the RPM of the drive would affect the way it performs in Logic, I thought as long as it was USB3 or Thunderbolt it would be fast enough. Thanks for setting me straight.
  2. Ok good to know, it is actually formatted as ExFat. So are you saying that Lacie Rugged are too slow too mix directly from the drive? Should I only use SSD drives from mixing from?
  3. I am having issues with slow load times in Logic Pro and the HD meter showing overload. When I drag a audio file into my project I get the spinning colour ball for about 10 seconds before playback and the HD meter at the top fills to full and shows a blue dot. I have a very new (2018 model but bought new in 2021) 3.2GHz Mac Mini 6 Core Intel i7 with 32GB RAM and I'm running the project off a Lacie Rugged USB3 plugged directly into the Mac Mini. I don't get any "disk too slow message" and the I/O Buffer Size is as 1024 samples. The CPU meter is barely registering. I have the same issue when I use iZotope RX8 as an external sample editor. I use Shift-W to open RX8 and make some adjustments to a sample, and when I save the file in RX8 and go back to hit playback in Logic I get the spinning colour ball for about 10 seconds and the full HD meter. Anyone know why this is happening? I would be surprised if it would be a slow drive as it is USB3 but it is the only thing I can think of.
  4. Saved my ass with this same solution 9 years later, thanks David!
  5. Here's a little hack if you have a stereo file and you want to split the left and right into separate mono channels e.g. if you have an interview with the two speakers recorded on L and R channels. Using the same method above, copy the stereo file into another track and click-hold the input format button to select Left on one and Right on the other. Then make a small edit (split the file and move it a tiny bit at the beginning or end) and join (command-J) which will create a new mono file with just the left and right in their respective tracks. It is mind-numbingly stupid that 8 years after this discussion Apple still hasn't fixed this so that you can easily import stereo files into two separate mono tracks, but here we are...
  6. I would also like a feature/keyboard shortcut to add fades of x length to the start and end of a region. A very tedious process in doing voiceover editing.
  7. And here I am in 2021 looking for the same answer! Thanks!
  8. Since it took you three years to make fun of him, I figured I'd wait 2 more year to say he was actually wrong. Playback pre-roll is not under File>Project Setting>Audio. It is under Preferences>Audio>General>Playback pre-roll (uncheck).
  9. Ok so the yellow colour is just to indicate that I'm nearing 0 dBFS, I'm not clipping in the 32 bit realm or something?
  10. Here's something that confuses me. In the attached screengrab the Peak Level indicator is showing a yellow value which as I understand from the above explanation means is is over 0 dBFS in the 32 bit realm, however the value is -1.2. So I don't understand how/why it is saying I'm over 0 dBFS but the value is in the negative. Would love someone to explain what is happening here.
  11. Logic has always been geared toward music mixing but I have been using it as my main video post-production DAW for a few years now because it has some benefits over Pro Tools. Firstly the video engine isn't as CPU hungry as Pro Tools which needs minimum of 16GB RAM (32GB recommended) to run the video engine which a lot of laptops don't have. Secondly it is better for portable mixing because it isn't so particular about iLoks and licensing and there are many great plugins that come free. However there are a few things that sh*t me to tears about doing post-production work on Logic and I would love them to be addressed in future updates. 1) Forcing you to create a new track when you open a new project. Nine times out of ten I'm opening a OMF or AAF in Logic Pro so I don't want to have to create a new track every time I open a project. I know it is easy to just create the track then delete it once you've imported the OMF/AAF but it is just an annoyance in a regular workflow. 2) Dragging 2 channel files into logic automatically puts them in a track as a stereo file. There are many professional portable recorders such Sound Devices 552, Sound Devices 702 etc that will record a 2 channel multi-track WAV but it is not a stereo track. It might have for example the interviewer on CH1 and the interviewee on CH2 and you want to edit them separately as two tracks in Logic. This is a recording common format in film production because it means you have less files to deal with. If you drag a 3 channel or 4 channel WAV file into Logic it will ask if you want them on separate tracks or on one track, but 2 channel files always seem to be forced into a stereo track. I'd love to see these changes implemented.
  12. I'm like 4 years late but I can't believe I only just found out you could do this. I wish it was selected by default when you open a project.
  13. I'm working on a podcast project and I'm having trouble with a sidechain compressor quirk in Logic Pro X 10.2.4. I have a backing music track that I'm trying to apply two separate sidechain compressors to, one is controlled by voiceover track to duck the music when there is talking, the second is controlled by other miscellaneous audio track. I have both compressors on the insert of the music track, there are no aux sends. However it seems that when I try to have two compressors operating, the first one works normally, ducking the music when the VO occurs but the second compressor just works like a normal compressor, ignoring the sidechain setup. Anyone have an idea why this is happening?
  14. If you're using Logic Pro X you can use the same method but you access through Function>Folder>Pack Take Folder. See this YouTube tutorial for a walkthrough:
  15. And there it is!! Thank you KC for the simple explanation to this rather easy riddle!
