  1. 1 - Open Maschine 2 plugin. 2 - Where it says "MASTER GROUP SOUND" select GROUP. 3 - Select the "knob" icon on the immediate left of the word "MASTER" instead of the "plug" icon 4 - Select "Input" 5 - Choose Drumkit under "Key mode" From this point onwards, as you drag out your midi, all sounds will be put under one track - your original track. If you want to drag out individual drum parts, you must enter "keyboard mode" in maschine and THEN drag out the midi, this way Maschine will export the midi for the individual part and not the whole kit. If you want to have a different track for each drum part, you either need to make a multitimbral track or have an independent instance of Maschine for each part. Both implementations are, IMHO, really poor, but that's what you get with Maschine. After spending a whole year with it, I've concluded that Maschine has horrible integration with DAWs (not just Logic, all of them) and is, in my opinion, a sub par drum sequencer to use inside DAWs. As a word of personal advice, you would be MUCH better off with Logic's drum machine designer, if you were open to do away with the maschine hardware. If you love the hardware, you'll have to put up with the horrible DAW implementation, or lack thereof. Best of luck and I hope you can solve your problem!
  2. Thanks for the idea! As I understand it, the difference with using the Untagged loops feature is that loops won't automatically flex to the song's tempo and key right? And I think you're not able to search the untagged loops directory by writing "kick" on the search bar like in the normal Apple Loops, or are you? Otherwise, is there any difference? Thank you for sharing your workflow, I really appreciate it.
  3. Hi all. As a result of me starting to produce daily, my sample library has become rather large compared to what I'm used to. I don't know the exact number but I think I now own over 30,000 third-party samples and I'm becoming frustrated with having to search in 6 or 7 different places to be able to find a snare for a given song. To be clear, by sample library I mean drum one shots, melodic loops, midi progressions and some melody one shots - this is content I acquired from Cymatics, NI Maschine 2, AKAI MPC, Battery 4, XO by XLN Audio, Splice and a couple others. My problem is that to find my Cymatics packs for example, I need to use the MacOS Finder since Logic's media browser won't preview 32-bit samples, which is the format of most of my samples. To access my Battery, Maschine, MPC or XO samples I need to pull up the specific plug-ins and use them, which is overkill when I might just need a snare or a hihat and pulling up an entire instance of Maschine 2 to get a snare makes me pretty frustrated. I've decided that I only want to use Logic's Drum Machine Designer to program drums, and my plan is to extract all the samples from every single third party pack and drum sequencer plugin and convert them all to Apple Loops so I can quickly access my entire library of contents from one window while having the added benefit of all my melody samples being key and tempo compliant immediately. In theory this sounds like a GREAT idea, and I've even converted 1 Native Instruments expansion into Apple Loops and I love working that way. But converting my entire library will take to weeks to accomplish. I do have the time to make this happen and I want to do it, but my question is: Is this even a good idea to begin with or is there a much simpler way to get around this? I've searched the internet for a solution and I see most people just using tons of different plugins and apps to host their samples, which is something that I really dislike since it slows down my workflow a lot. Looking forward to your opinions and possible suggestions. Thank you and have a great day!
  4. I've tried really hard to get around this and it just couldn't be done. You CAN access the smart controls of all the pads of the DMD instrument and you can go to your hi hat (for example) and choose its pitch, but nothing happens, the automation doesn't snap like it should. The work around I found is to go into the quick sampler that's holding the hihat I want to pitch shift and turn the velocity into pitch (on the pitch parameter, turn the "Vel" slider all the way up and use the "Coarse" knob to set how much pitch variation you want) instead of amplitude, this way you can control the pitch of each kit piece through adjusting its velocity. It's not ideal but it works VERY well for hihat pitch shifting in trap beats. Give it a try
  5. I've been recording guitars "every day" for many years, being a guitarist myself. I hardly ever do anything to a guitar track other than roll off the bass at 100hz and the highs at 10khz, I generally try to get the best possible tone out of my amp in the first place and hardly do I ever need to correct anything. But getting great guitar tone out of your gear comes with experience, so try it out and record often! My answer to your question would be no, if the guitar sounds good you won't need to change anything unless the rest of the instruments need more space.
  6. Take a look at the Launchpad X by Novation on YouTube if you haven't, it natively controls the Live Loops and also some other things in Logic. I might go snatch one soon. Here's a link if you haven't seen it yet: About Maschine, I don't know if it's possible to route it but would also be interested in knowing the answer!
  7. Hi everyone, I'm trying to find the fastest way to automate the pitch of my hihats to create pitched hihat rolls on the Drum Machine Designer WITHOUT using the "Separate by Note Pitch" function because I really want to keep all my drum pieces in the same midi regions for sequencing and overview purposes. I came up with 3 different methods which should all be able to work in Logic, but unfortunately I can't get any of them to work with DMD, but they do work with other tools. The methods I'm trying to implement are as follows: 1 - Automate the Hihat "Kit Piece Smart Control" that controls Pitch. This is acessible in the Piano Roll by opening the piano roll automation and where by default it says "volume" in yellow choose "Smart Controls -> Kit Piece Smart Controls -> *Hihat Kitpiece name* -> Pitch". This method would be PERFECT for my workflow but unfortunately when I choose this option the automation stays in the default "volume" and doesn't present me the option to automate this parameter... but it presents the option to choose it! But when I click it, nothing happens. Here's a snapshot: Note: I was able to pull this off by writing the automation directly on the Hihat track inside the DMD track stack, the problem is that with this method I'm not able to actually see the midi notes while I'm programming the automation, which makes it a bit harder. But it's a viable workaround if nothing else works. 2 - Velocity to Pitch: I'm a Battery 4 power user and have been for a few years and I have a great workaround in Battery for this. I use a function inside it where it allows me to link the velocity of a given note (in this case the note associated to the hihat sample) to its pitch, which means that to automate the pitch of the hats all I need to do is to change its velocity. This is very handy and one of the reasons I love battery but I would like to switch over to DMD because its very well integrated with the Piano Roll and the Step Sequencer. Is it possible to route the velocity of a note in Logic to a Smart Control in a DMD pad for example? This sounds awfully complicated to be possible and I've searched the web for it and nothing came up, but who knows. 3 - I saw a YouTube video of a guy using the Maschine 2 plugin to automate HH pitch inside the Step Sequencer! What he was doing was changing the "Note" value on each step of the Hihat and the Maschine plugin would route it to another note. I own the Maschine plugin and I followed along and it worked just as he shows it, but when trying to reproduce this on other drum machines it just changed the kitpiece, probably because Maschine is hosting the kitpieces in its own environment? Do you guys think this could be reproduced using DMD? I don't really understand plugin arquitecture enough to know how this could be implemented outside of the Maschine environment, but I suppose it might be possible. Here's the video. The HH Pitch roll is at 03:35 Thank you and have a great day!
  8. Thank you my friend, your answer was very thorough and helpful! I will consider my options based on the info you gave me. Best regards!
  9. Hello everyone! I published this post on reddit (Novation community) originally but I supposed that maybe some of you guys could help me out as well, since we're all on Logic. Thanks! I currently own an MPC Live and I'm running Logic on a top-tier Macbook Pro, Late 2018. It would be very helpful if you guys could help me in determining if I should buy a Launchpad X for my Logic rig or not. The reason for this post is that I'm fairly dissatisfied with the workflow on my MPC, since it was a large investment that I made without extensive knowledge of how it operates. I've concluded in the last 6 months of using the MPC daily that it really doesn't integrate well with Logic. I also came to realize that I don't enjoy the MPC Software or Standalone workflow as I'm a Logic guy and always have been, so I tried to integrate it as best as I could. Currently I use it in standalone mode with MIDI cables (since I don't like the plugin mode) to: - Trigger drum samples/finger drum using my plugins (Battery 4 and Logic's DMD) - Play the pads in "pad perform mode", which allows me to play scale correct chords and notes according to what scale I select in the hardware - Play sample chops that I made in Logic using the new Quick Sampler which makes sampling 10x faster for me than using the MPC sampler So basically I'm using the MPC as a generic pad controller for my Logic workflow because I just don't have a use for its more extensive capabilities, especiallly since Logic 10.5 is so powerful in the sampling department. The samples in the MPC are GREAT but I don't want to work with audio regions and it's impossible to record midi for more than one instance of the MPC plugin, which is a bummer for me. So I just use Native Instruments and Splice stuff instead. TLDR; Apologies for the long introduction, my question is: As of Logic 10.5 and Launchpad X official integration, do you guys know what can be done with the Launchpad inside of Logic OTHER than using it for the Live Loops section? Can the Launchpad be used to: - Fingerdrum in tracks mode and assign specific notes to the pads so it triggers my instruments correctly? Is it possible to save MIDI mapping presets? - Control the Logic transport? - Play scales and/or chord modes into my virtual instruments so that I don't have to write my chords in piano roll or worry about performing in key? - Do these features come pre-mapped? If not, what features come pre-mapped except for the Live Loops? I've been researching the Launchpad extensively since I loved the Live Loops feature but I'm just not sure if the amazing features that are possible in Ableton are also possible in Logic and I would really like to know what the limitations would be in Logic. I'm pretty much trying to get as close as possible to the Ableton Push experience inside Logic and since there's no dedicated controller available yet, the Launchpad seems to be the closest thing out right now. Thank you very much for your time and sorry for the long post.
  10. Tried to download it again from the XLN Audio website?
  11. Thanks Jordi. I'll follow your advise and see what I can manage.
  12. Mine lasts an eternity so I can't just look the other way :/
  13. Yes! I use Clean My Mac. Is there a to stop it from clearing Logic's AU Scan data? Yet I'm not even sure if it's Clean My Mac that's causing the scans because I got a random scan today and I have not used CMM for at least 5 days or longer. It's just random. I had my clients waiting for 10 minutes before we could start the session, it was very upsetting!
