  1. Thank you! Momentum is definitely the most orchestral of the songs on my soundcloud. It needs a bit of polishing though...
  2. I really like this. The atmosphere is really nice. But I think one thing with it is that it sounds kinda dry, perhaps not quite 'airy' enough for space. Also, I'd really recommend playing around with panning more, to give a greater illusion of space. Switching up the melody subtly every now and then could also create some interest. With a little work it could be really nice. One thing I don't really like is the drums at the end, they feel kinda out of place (although that's more personal preference).
  3. Thanks! I love your descriptions of them. I was really trying to go for very unique feels for them.
  4. Thank you! That's exactly the feeling I was going for.
  5. I've been collecting a lot of my musics since around october 2013 here: https://soundcloud.com/vo1dwalk3r They are for the most part ambient-ish electronic, with some orchestral and techno mixed in here and there. 90% of the stuff is made with Logic instruments. Most of it's natural minor, but a good portion is dorian and I've recently experimented with lydian and harmonic minor. The tracks aren't totally polished yet, but I'd like to know what you think! Thanks!
  6. Hey guys So recently I discovered the Samplephonics "Design a Genre" competition and was like, "Hey, I think I'll try to make something for this!" So I thought and thought of what I should make, and then I remembered an old song that I made over a year ago and decided to remake it for the competition. I present to you... Wind II [soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/ecthelion_ii/wind-ii-please-leave[/soundcloud] It's still a work in progress, but I would love to hear your guys' comments so that I can maybe perhaps have a better chance at winning the competition! Oh, and the genre will probably be "Atmospherica". However, if you have a better idea please tell! Thanks!
  7. Ooh, that sounds fun. I'll have to give that a go soon! Thanks!
  8. Did you freeze/bounce in place & then change BPM, I've done that before, beware.
  9. Haha thanks! Shouldn't be too long before I have some new patches for you guys!
  10. *Note: you can ignore this message, I'm no professional, just giving some advice. Personally, I think that trying to make EXACTLY what you're thinking is not very wise. Sometimes the best sounds come about through fiddling. For me, if I want a lead sound, I won't try to replicate a cool synth I heard in a song; I'll simply open up ES2, tell myself "Ok, I want a lead sound", and start mucking around. For me this is a great trick - not aiming at anything in particular while still trying to get a certain style of sound. It allows my creativity to not be limited by a certain goal but I (usually) won't end up making a dubstep wobble when trying to make a smooth, watery pad. About trying to emulate real sounds, you can try it if you like, but quit if it doesn't work. For me that seems to be a useless excersize. I learned synthesis through a year of trial-and-error and messing around on progressively more in-depth synths - from editing synth sounds built into Garageband iOS to creating complex patches on the ES2, and many in between over the course of about a year. Just some thoughts.
  11. Hey guys, sorry about the silence, but I'm back! And this time with more content! COMING SOON*: •Homemade Addidive Synthesizer •Refined old presets •New presets - not just for ES2! *Like in a few hours.
  12. I just tried the demo for NI's Massive today, and I don't know about anything anymore. Despite it's implied ("massive") uses, I was able to make the softest, lushest lead synth in not even five minutes. I have no idea what I want anymore. I'm probably just going to wait on buying a synth, since there are way too many great looking ones out there that would be difficult to say no to. In all actuality, I might as well wait until I can buy all of the ones I want so I don't regret not buying one. But I think I'd regret the cost for a long time! For some reason, Native Instrument's synths seem to go very well with me. If I could spare the money, I'd love to buy Reaktor and try building a custom synth. I have a insane idea for a crazy awesome experimental hybrid additive wavetable synth, although it would probably take more skill (and time) then I have to get it working. So, thanks again!
  13. OK, I think I made a decision. The Absynth 5. It just seems the most appealing to me, especially with the powerful additive synthesis & the waveform editor. Within three sessions of messing around with it, I was able to make an AMAZING patch. Too bad it was the demo version, and I was unable to save it. I've had both the Zebra 2 and Alchemy for a while and I've never made a sound with either of them that sounds this good. I'm not sure exactly why it appeals to me most, but I really like its sound and... honestly, I guess I don't really know why I'm choosing it over the others. I've used all the demos and tried them all out in-depth, and it's just... the easiest for me to use, and, well, the most appealing. I won't make any purchases quite yet, and I'll keep the demo version for a while just to make sure it's the right choice for me. But still, I've never felt so sure about buying a synth. Thanks guys!
  14. Thanks for all the suggestions guys! Right now, I'm tied between the NI Absynth 5 and the Camel Audio Alchemy. On one hand, the Absynth is (even with the regular price) $50 cheaper, and comes with loads of free presets and has powerful synthesis and sound customization. It seems too that the Alchemy is geared more towards resynthesis and sampling, something that I'm not really interested in for a synth. But on the other hand, I was just playing around the the Alchemy Mobile on my iPhone (and the Trance & Dance preset pack) and it sounds absolutely amazing, and Alchemy seems to have tons of modulation capabilities and such, along with it's warm, colorful sound. That being said, I guess I'm leaning more towards the Absynth, especially with the lower price. I've had the demo of Alchemy for a while, and I really like it, but I'm not sure it's worth an extra $50 (or $150 if I get Absynth before monday). What I think I may do is just buy a few of the preset banks for Alchemy, which would be nice since even in the Alchemy Player you have quite a bit of customization, with the remix pad and the two X/Y pads and such. Or download some user-made patches. For the Zebra 2, I've tried it out and it's not all that appealing. I don't know why, it just doesn't really seem to agree with me. The presets don't seem that usable either, but maybe that's just me. I'm sure it's a fine synth. And the Omnisphere... well, $500 is a bit steep, even with all the synthesis possibilities & the extensive preset bank. For that money I'd rather get Reaktor 5 or a combination of some of the synths I've been looking at. So I'll try the demo for the Absynth and hopefully come to a decision. If there are any others you'd think I'll like, do tell! Also, if you want a better idea of what I'm looking for, you can check out some of my music to get a feel for what sounds I use. Thanks for the recommendations guys!
