  1. I'm struggling with this big-time. I narrate audio books, and have everything working great as far as punching in quickly to redo a mistake, EXCEPT that during the pre-roll, there is no sound from the current track when recording. It's creating an insane amount of work later when editing.
  2. Thanks, both of you! That helped.
  3. I'm trying to use volume automation on a project, and find that I cannot set an exact level for any specific point. I click a point and drag it, but the volume levee goes up in .3 or .4 increments. If I have a point set at, say, 8.2, the one next to it has completely different range when I try to adjust it. I must be missing something simple, but have found no topics on it anywhere.
  4. Somehow, by chance, it started working for me, after I had rebooted a few more times and installed an update, and....it worked. It's been working for over a week. I wish I had actually done something obvious, so I'd know what to tell you.
  5. Yes, I've had phantom power on. Heck, I've tried every configuration possible, and again, this worked fine for a while. I recorded a couple vocal and acoustic guitar tracks, and they sound fine. I hadn't used the Mac for recording in about a month, there may have been a system update or two since, the XLR jacks are hosed. The light flickers rapidly, as if I were tapping on the mic, and I hear odd "connection" noises through the headphones. Thanks again for the help! The 1/4" audio inout is fine, though. I can plug an electric guitar in, switch from LINE to INST, and it's perfect.
  6. Hi Miles, Thanks very much for the reply. I hadn't installed any other software drivers since it last worked, though there were a couple system updates during that time. I tried the class compliant drivers, it doesn't look like they made a difference. I have tried other cables and a different mic, same thing. It does happen on both channels, and immediately starts when I plug into the Mac. It seems to be specific to the Mac, but I just don't know what could have happened. Any other suggestions? -Rick
  7. I just recently purchased my first MacBook after a decade of recording on 8-tracks and PCs. I'm making progress, slowly enough, and thought I had the equipment portion down. I'm using the Scarlett 2i2 interface, and have recorded a couple songs using both the AKG Perception 220 mic and various guitars, keyboards, etc. I'm using Logic Pro X. Suddenly, the XLR mic isn't working. Or, more specifically, it seems to work for five seconds. Then you can hear nothing for five seconds, and then it begins pulsing rapidly, the found shutting on and off for several seconds until a strange beep emits from the interface, then it all starts over again. I've tried everything I possibly can…… -the settings on the interface are correct, it's set to Line, and this happens on either input, doesn't make a difference. -3/4" cables from guitars, bass, anything else still work fine. -I've closed all software on the Mac, still no good. -If I unplug from the Mac, the interface simply powers down. -I switched mic cables, no good. -I plugged the mic back in to my 8-track, that aworks perfectly. -I plugged the interface into my PC and, while I couldn't quite get it to record at a listenable volume, it wasn't exhibiting the same issue. I hadn't previously installed any of Focusrite's drivers, and it was working fine. When the problem started, I tried the drivers, no change. This may not technically be a Logic issue, but it does seem to at least be Mac-specific, and I'm just hoping somebody has had similar issues or knows what steps I can take next. This has been extremely frustrating, as I've just started to get the hang of the software and now, inexplicably, I can't even get the basics done. I'll also note that it does technically record to Logic Pro, but the results mimic what I hear from the monitor, with the phasing in and out. If anybody has any advice at all, I would greatly appreciate it.
  8. I made progress on the secondary issue…..finally figured out how to convert a drummer track to a MIDI region and use the piano roll to manually edit each section. It's pretty much exactly what I was looking for, even if I still need to figure out some more specific tasks. Since I can now (theoretically) start creating my drum beats in Logic, I tried exporting a custom MIDI section to a file. I've done both AIF and WAV, 16 and 24 bit. But still, after I place that AIF or WAV file in the project, then edit the custom MIDI section and export to the ams file name, I cannot get the existing sections to update. Is there a specific bit depth, or other settings I should be using to make this happen?
  9. JESUS! Okay, I see it. And I know I've seen it before, I just forgot how I had gotten there. Okay, I'll spend some time experimenting, and if I continue to have trouble, I'll start a new, cohesive thread. Thank you again, I really appreciate everyone's patience. -Rick
  10. triplets, When I click the track to add a plug-in, I don't have the EXS24 option. In fact, I don't even have the Drum Kit Designer option that is shown in the screenshot. This is on a track that I created using TRACK - NEW SOFTWARE INSTRUMENT TRACK. Am I missing a step? Jordi, that's a really good point. I'll give that shot.
  11. Jordi, Sig has been updated. I had tried the Update File Information thing, and it just doesn't do anything. Am I really trying to do something that uncommon? Of course, if I can actually figure out how to use Logic as a step editor for drums, I guess I wouldn't need to worry about that. Triplets, you had said: "Create a software instrument track. On the channel strip select the ESX24 on the instrument slot and choose a drum kit. Arm the track and hit record and hit some notes on your controller to create a midi region. Then double click the midi region to open the midi editor and then you can create your beats." This sounds simple, but I've been trying to do this and simply haven't been able to find exactly what you're talking about. Specifically, I can't find ESX24 mentioned anywhere in the software or documentation. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but I'm just not getting it. I knew I would struggle a bit, switching from 8-tracks and PCs to Mac, but this has been unexpectedly frustrating. I really appreciate everyone taking the time to help out. -Rick
  12. Jordi, that's exactly what I'm expecting to happen…..the drum track is set up in Logic X, called Beat1.wav, or whatever…..then using FL Studio, I add some hit at to the beat, re-export the WAV file, saving as Beat1.wav. So, the contents of the file have changed. Now, why doesn't the track in Logic update? This certainly isn't magic, I've used Acid Pro for over a decade and it has a simple setting to allow for file changes to automatically be update in your tracks. Have I been spoiled? Surely, there's a way. Eriksimon, thanks for the screenshot. I added FLStudio as a Sample Editor. Tried it again though, and it still doesn't work. Still hoping there's a simple setting or task that I've missed. And Jordi, I'll check out the sequencers in Logic again, thanks for that.
  13. Thanks for the reply! I'm all for keeping media in the same folder, but even if I did that, I'd have to import the WAV into my Logic project, right? Which works fine itself, it's just that when I update the WAV after importing into Logic, that track doesn't update. I'm thinking there must be a way for that to happen. On another note, you mention doing drum tracks in Logic. Believe me, I would MUCH rather do that than use another program! But I cannot find any kind of step editor for drums. The virtual drummers are great, but I really need to be able to manually create my beats, placing kicks, snares, and hitats where I need them to be. If that's possible in Logic, I'm missing it.....could you please point me in the right direction?
  14. I am very new to Macs, Logic Pro X, etc, after over a decade of using PCs and 8-tracks to record my music, so please bear with me. I used FL Studio to create a quick drum beat, and rendered it to a WAV. I Imported it into Logic Pro X and copy/pasted instances of it on a drum track to match my music. It sounded okay, but I needed to change part of the drum beat. I did so in FL Studio, re-rendered the WAV file. But now, all I can seem to do is Import that file again, and it creates a new instance. I was hoping (expecting) that if the source file changed, then the instance in Logic would be resampled. Otherwise, how are you supposed to edit an external file once you have it set up in Logic? I hope that makes sense, I know the terminology is completely different in here. Thanks in advance! -Rick
