What is the correct way to back up a project on a back up hard drive that has freeze tracks?
I use a UAD DUO for plug ins. When I'm loaded down and close to maxed out on the UAD DSP, I freeze tracks to conserve usage. Normally, when it comes time to back up, I use the "Save as" or Save a Copy". However, when working with tracks that are frozen things get a bit tricky. If I use the "Save as" or "Save a Copy" to back up........ when opening the project in the backed up hard drive..... the freeze track files haven't followed. Then, when opening the project, in the back up hard drive, the freeze tracks are marked with the green snowflake but need to be "refrozen" the first time I hit play. This is particularly hairy when I'm completely maxed out on the UAD card.... I'll get the "one or more of the plug ins has been disabled" warning..... which makes sense since the tracks with plug ins that should be frozen are not and are overloading the UAD processor. Even more interesting, the plug ins on the channels I want frozen come up in the default state, not the settings I had them set at. It becomes an endless cycle of trying to decipher what has been disabled and what has the wrong setting.
I should say that the work around that I use is to "copy" the project folder in the original hard drive....... then use "paste" in the back up hard drive. Obviously, this copies all sub folders like audio files, bounces, and freeze tracks. Is this the correct way?? Or, is there something I'm missing in the "Save as" and "Save a Copy" command?
Any thought are appreciated.
