  1. [soundcloud] [/soundcloud]Hey guys, I did this in my basement (studio). I'm dropping it in here, Comments are welcome.
  2. TY, I have been experimenting with drastic tempo changes in some projects, but I always F@#% up Time signature changes in logic. I really like the syncopation in that song "BlackStar", I was trying to get the Logic Drummer to follow something. Guess I'll try slate drums.
  3. Great overall. Like the VID.
  4. Probably silly NOOB Question. In David Bowies Backstar, what time signature does the song start out at? It's kind of Jazzy and I'm not sure about what this is.
  5. Originally inspired by an "EX" Changed the words as a response to someone "Leaving the Group", anyway. Laugh it up. This was fun [soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/scottymacg5/since-your-gone-facebook-group[/soundcloud]
  6. I will offer you this advice, as I have a similar workflow. For starters I keep my project files "Obsessively Organized". I usually bounce more then 2 versions of a mix, (up to 10), so the organization is to simply go back to a track and be able to fine it instantly. For some time now, I have (Laid-off) on the over-prosessing with plugins. I too have a UAD card. What I have found, (and I could be entirely incorrect), the UAD was designed to be more than a hardware dongle, it's supposed to do the plugin processing (Saving system resources) and taking the burden off your DAW. Universal Audio has an instance chart denoting the amount of EACH SPECIFIC UAD PLUGIN will use. http://www.uaudio.com/support/uad/compatibility/instance-chart.html My recommendation is that you Either OPEN your project and TURN OFF all the plugins and see if that frees up some of the project. You can also Share the plugins in a BUS, or you can "Freeze" some tracks or Bounce Them to audio POST Effect, on separate tracks then delete the channel strip with ALL The Plugins on it. Again, I could be totally off base here, but I too have the Aurora 16, so when I manually bounce a track (Round-Trip) not only do I grab a nice clean Audio wave, But it enables me to: 1. commit to the processed track 2. free up more space (and system process) within the mix 3. (FOR ME) helps me look more at the composition overall, and less on the individual track, that needs endless echo, or Tape Hiss, or Whatever the heck Sounds good on that 1 track. It doesn't matter all that time dedicated to a solo track changes once the stars are brought together of the overall mix anyway. ~hope that was sort-of helpful
  7. Dear Abby... I think my wife is cheating on me. I am a working musician and, as you would expect, travel a lot. I have been noticing strange things happening when I get home. Her mobile phone rings and she steps outside to answer it or she says, "I'll call you back later". When I ask her who called she gets evasive. Sometimes she goes out with friends but comes home late, getting dropped off around the corner and walking the rest of the way. I once picked up the extension while she was on the phone and she got very angry. A buddy of mine plays guitar in a band. He told me that my wife and some guy have been to his gigs. He wanted to borrow my guitar amp. That's when I got the idea to find out for myself what was really happening. I said, "sure, you can use my amp but I want to hide behind it at the gig and see if she comes into the venue and who she comes in with". He agreed. Saturday night came and I slipped behind my Marshall JCM800 half stack to get a good view. I could feel the heat coming off the back of the amp. It was at that moment, crouching down behind the amp, that I noticed that one of the tubes was not glowing as brightly as the other 3. Is this something I can fix myself or I do need to take it to a technician? Thanks, Jake
  8. Just my 2 cents, but I upgraded to the 12 core MacPro, because of the A. Power and memory capacity, & B, the 4 bays of Hard Drive, but mostly because I am using a UAD 2 Octo and Lynx Aurora, and the new :Coffee Can" dosen't have the PCI Slots without purchasing an additional PCI > Thunderbolt "Break-out out box". am also sort-a out of luck as I DO NOT have Thunderbold for expansion and Im locked into Firewire interfaces. I just don't know, hopefully I can get another 2-3 years out of this one and then the prices on the "Black Can" may come down a bit.
  9. I purchased a 2010 12-Core Mac Pro as opposed to getting an Overly priced new one. My reasons were simple.... 1. I have a UAD 2 Pci Card, which would mean another "Break out box" for the new MP's PCI 1a. PCI Lynx Aurora Interface. 2. The internals of my current machine allow for 4 Hard Drives, so Solid State System disc, and 3 other Mega drives for project data. 3. 2 Super-drives, Yes I still occasionally burn a CD or Two. 4. DDR 3 Memory 48GB of it, This machine runs like a SpaceShip. WARNING: I purchased this computer on E-Bay, and I was very happy at first, until one of the fans started cranking up the noise. Turned out that the person I purchased it from was a "BUTCHER" and used all kinds of weird washers and such to attach the fans leaving one of them to get loose and become disabled. It was then I found a local guy why replaced the 2-2.4 6-core chips with 2-3.2 chips 6-Cores. $500 later she's FAST, Whisper Quiet and running 24X7 without any issues..... Oh I still regret no Thunderbolt....
  10. Thanks for the compliment. I haven't used the Eleven Rack to its fullest potential. I do not use the Internal clock from Logic or The 11R. What I like to do is place effects after the tracks are laid down. You probably want to Monitor the instrument. I like the SoundToys Plugin's But these don't work with a Digital Instrument... SO: I Record the same track Super Clean, Then bounce it to turn that midi file to a .WAV, Decorate the Mix with Those colorful effects.
  11. I have been using the Eleven Rack with Logic since 8, Only recently is there a MAC Eleven Rack editor, with a nice GUI, to make the amp and effects selections on screen (Easier then the knobs on the unit). I connect USB to my computer and edit the presets there, Saving and changing the order ETC.... However The way I set up and use the 11R with Logic and recording is way different. I, like you, want to record the signal from the 11R, as clean as possible so I have a couple of ways in which it is set up..... Start with the Electric Guitar...... Into a RADIAL D.I. box. The XLR Out from the Radial goes directly into Channel 1 (Record Enabled and level set) Logic Channel 1 Next out 1/4" to Eleven Rack "Guitar IN".... Heres where I'm a little neurotic or Crazy. There are two XLR Outputs on the 11R, these go (Stereo Out) to channels 3-L and 4-R Channel 3 & 4 in Logic. Now out of the front of the 11R I run a 1/4" guitar cord into the Amp of my choice, Usually a small Tube combo, set very "Neutral" for use with 11R. This gives me the great guitar tone in the room, all the while NO Latency at all, and the guitarist has full control of the "Feel" of the 11R and the tone directly. OK OK OK, Now I will ALSO Mic the cabinet, with a Sennheiser 109, Sm-57, Blue Baby Bottle or All three, (or More) at varying positions for depth and Room Space. All Mic outs to their corresponding Channels Now Being 4,5 & 6....... Whatever. After All is said and done, (Also carefully Noting the settings in notepad or paper track sheet) I now have a Clean D.I. guitar recording on channel 1. All the rest are nice 2&3 are the cleanest sounds 11R will produce, and the mic cabinet stuff has a good room feel even sometimes a (Very Little) bleed from whatever else is playing in the session. But ultimately I can go back and edit Track 1 and then output it back through the whole setup and re-record it again with either a different 11R preset, or through an old analog pedal board. Im learning to use this stuff, I'm not an expert by any lengths, but this "OVERKILL" works well for me, I have gotten some great guitar recordings and also some crap when I was rushed and didn't fix levels after simply changing a preset. But I cannot emphasize enough that 1st clean DI track, can be your salvation when recording with any set up particularly the 11R.
  12. I like, and have used both, NI Session Guitarist STRUMMED ACOUSTIC, and OrangeTree Samples Evolution Stratosphere. The latter from OrangeTree runs a little under $200, but the guitar sounds are actually stunning. Then, in Logic through the pedal board or (As someone mentioned) Waves GTR, you can really get a great guitar sound without a guitar.
  13. Influenced by Lennon's Plastic Ono Band, Going for a "Feel".... Unorganized, flowing, Primal , confused love song..... Most of the Time.
