  1. Thanks, that's a good idea. I went back and checked Logic 9 and it's the same... seems 999 bars is the length limit for a single note in Logic. The work around is to adjust tempo: 66bpm in 4/4 makes a 999 bar note 1hr long.
  2. Thanks... yes I did consider changing tempo or time signature as a work-around but wanted to check if this was just happening for me or for everyone. So, its a bug? mmm OK.
  3. Hi all - I'm scratching my head here. I can't draw in a note length longer than 999 bars in my Piano Roll, and I don't know why...? I'm writing a 1 hr piece and need to have long single drone notes. In Logic 9 I could simply click and drag the note duration to whatever length I wanted...? My song length is set to 2,049 bars, so it's not too short. Advanced Tools are switched on, for what its worth. I have tried dragging the note length in Piano Roll and also writing it manually in the Event List, but even the list snaps the value back to a max of 999 bars every time. Is there an option I need to disable somewhere (eg max note length)? I can't find anything like that. Thank you, nickbaba Logic X 10.3.2. - Sierra 10.12.6 - Mac Pro 3.5 GHz 6-Core
  4. D'oh! Thanks Erik for helping me try the obvious... Turn It Off and On Again! This has fixed the issue - still no idea what caused it but Software Monitoring now working as normal. Must have been some weird random software glitch. Phew - I really was stuck there for a while... thank goodness for these forums. Your help is much appreciated. Note to self: Always remember to try turning it off and on again first!!!
  5. System: Mac Pro 2013/ 6 core/ 64gb RAM/ Logic 9.1.8 / MOTU 896mk3 Hi Logic experts Can't figure this one out…. I'm trying to software monitor my record enabled tracks in Logic 9 using headphones connected to the MOTU 896mk3. Software monitoring is switched on (checked) in Prefs. The MOTU is selected as the input and output device, in Logic and in Apple System Prefs. I thought everything was OK until I realised I couldn't add add/hear any insert FX while recording/monitoring - then I realised I had only been hearing the Direct Input from the MOTU (e.g. before it reaches Logic). I switched that off in the MOTU, then found myself in this situation: audio is going into the MOTU and to Logic (I can see the meter levels moving on the record enabled track) but the track is not outputting any audio to the Stereo Out, (nothing shows on the meters) so I can't hear any sound returning through my headphones. (Let me say first Stereo Out is of course selected as the output on the Rec channel !) So.. then if I record some audio on the channel and play it back, that audio IS routed to the stereo outs and I can hear it as normal. Eh? So it can't be a routing issue, as recorded audio is routed correctly. Is it an issue with software monitoring? The S.M. box is checked in Prefs, as I said. I have also tried Auto Input Monitoring On and Off, and also the orange "I" box both on and off. Nothing seems to make any difference, and while the track is record enabled it will not output any sound to/from the Main Stereo Outs. One thing may possibly be strange, when I check/uncheck Software Monitoring in Prefs the Apply Changes box stays greyed out - only the check box changes, but I can't remember if that's normal behaviour for Logic 9 or not? Really really stuck on this one - can't figure out why its happening. Any help much appreciated! Cheers
  6. I had this exact issue once when I accidentally bounced an audio file as a Surround bounce instead of Stereo. Maybe worth checking.
  7. Thanks Erik, good call. Using the in-built output the metronome functions normally, so its definitely an issue with my sound card.
  8. Thats very strange that it works fine for you both. I trashed my preferences and re-loaded the same project i sent you. Got exactly the same thing as before - I can see the metronome going in the fader meters, but no sound unless i trigger the ES1 via my midi keyboard. WTF?? So where can the fault lie? Exactly the same project works fine for you both - but not for me. So does it mean the fault must be something set-up in my Mac, not with Logic X app itself? Could it be a confusion with a setting in Logic 9? I'm running both apps at different times, so they're both installed. Don't they share some stuff?
  9. Here's a zip of the project with just the metronome and an ES1. Put it into record on the ES1 track, and you should only hear the metronome when you play a note on the ES1. Let me know if you get the same issue your end. Cheers. metronome test.zip
  10. no there's no MIDI messages assigned in the controller assignments window. should there be?
  11. I'm a long-time Logic user, since the days of running eMagic Notator on Atari! Imho the problem is Apple no longer really care about making apps or hardware for Pro use. It used to be that Apple was the go-to company for Pro audio and graphics soft/hardware - now they are primarily a phone manufacturer. Their money ( and therefore attention) is with the mass-market casual consumer. Can't really blame them for that but its frustrating to see the change and realise that its all over. Apple no longer care, because they don't have to. Look what happened to Final Cut "Pro" when it jumped from 7 to X. Suddenly actual pro users had to abandon it because the program was streamlined to make it usable for people editing their holiday movies and phone videos to post online. Same thing will happen to Logic. Apple have no profit to be made from dedicating the time to producing a world-class DAW, as its only a tiny tiny fraction of their business. A dedicated DAW producer will have to step up and provide a quality alternative. Of course, for what it is, you could still say Logic X is good value for money. But it feels aimed at the casual user, who cares more about a cool-looking GUI than functionality. Why else design it to boot-up with the "Advanced Editing" option deactivated? That says it all, really.
  12. No? Nobody? OK... so guess that means either I AM missing something too obvious to even comment on... or it's so weird no-one's got an idea what to suggest?
  13. I'm probably missing something obvious but... I want to use the metronome recording midi info/software instruments. Metronome settings set to Click while Recording. Checked mixer channel outputs for klopfgeist, routed to stereo output. When I engage record, I can see the metronome sending a signal on its mixer channel, and I also see it showing on the stereo output channel (e.g. green/yellow level meter) but there's no sound output to my sound card. Eh? Then, when i press any key on my midi keyboard, i can hear the metronome (and my software inst). When i release the key, i hear the metronome for a further 2 beats or so, then the click disappears again, but the click level meter is still showing in the mixer channels (klofpgeist and stereo output). Anyone had this happen, or got any idea what I'm missing here? I'm a long time Logic user but new to LPX. Cheers.
