  1. You guys know more than most general Mac forums, so I thought I might ask about this. My iMac was making a continuous "modulating" high pitched sound. It would even pan from left to right and back. This sound was coming from my speakers. I disconnected my interface, switched inputs and outputs to internal speakers/mic... and it still happened. Did a hardware test and it was clean. Reset SCM and PRAM and now it is gone. I am running Mojave 10.14.4 This was really weird. I hope it was just some odd anomaly never to come back and/or software and not hardware related. 10.14.4 has been buggy for me - Ableton and Logic crashing here and there when they never ever did before (well, never Logic, Ableton less so).
  2. Ever since the last upgrade for Mojave, 10.14.4, I have had Logic crash a few times. Some times on launch, others on opening a new project. Ableton has crashed as well and today my Finder crashed after booting up! My hardware is fine. My machine has run like a Swiss watch for some time. Beyond repairing permissions and the other usual trouble shooting steps, does anyone have any advice, other than waiting for 10.4.5?
  3. Short of a new drive or computer, I will never clean install again! I did have one small problem with Mojave - it took like ten clicks or space bars to wake up from sleep. Low and behold this advice from an Apple forum actually worked. Reset SCM and PRAM. Which one did it? I have no idea, but this may be the first time I ever received useful advice from the apple forum: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250007076
  4. I’m going to check out crashplan. Thanks!
  5. My last two installs were a new ssd then another new Mac. It is a lot of work and kind of fun in a way, but way too much for an upgrade that was super easy and uneventful! Like you and others here I keep all my installers on multiple backups and have all my license and reg numbers in 1Password and that backed up in multiple machines too. I actually keep one of my backup drives at work in case something were to happen to the house. I may sound like a fanatic, but think about losing all your music, family photos, movies and sound, taxes and financial records, emails for two decades, school work from ages ago, work, resumes... don’t just make one backup. Have two or maybe three.
  6. All that worrying for nothing. The App Store upgrade was painless and everything I care about works well including Logic. However I have to say Dark Mode is kind of sucky. I don’t like it and I thought I would. Oh well.
  7. Thanks, did you do a simple upgrade or clean install? FYI I care about Logic the most!
  8. I'm old, I have had sooo many Mac and I have updated OS's sooo many times and I am just not excited at all about another clean install - this one from from Sierra to Mojave. I have soooo many applications, not just music, but others, and I'm going to try a "non clean" update just to see what happens. Of course, I back up everything like a maniac (Carbon Copy Cloner user for years) and can easily redo this if I need to, but does anyone have advice or tips? Perhaps good utilities to run after the update? Anyone else foolish enough to try this or is it not as risky as I might think? Is there some kind of "hybrid" approach I might take?
  9. Sorry if my text was unclear. I did primarily use the selector in the Inspector. (In desperation I tried show staff styles too). Selecting staff style from the Inspector will not change staff styles and has all the issues I listed. Others have this problem in other online sources, but no solution. I will try to post images later.
  10. I am having frustrating issues with assigning Staff Styles for guitar tab. All Advanced tools are enabled. Existing software instrument track. Selected Guitar staff style (Inspector or Show Staff Styles), staff style will not change. Select any other staff style (Guitar Mix, Piano...), NOTHING changes. Everyone on Youtube can do this, not me. Same i I try this. Create new software instrument track in a brand new virgin file. Before I record anything, select Guitar Mix staff style in inspector. Record some notes. Shows as Guitar Mix staff style Yea! Hold on. If I try to change to Guitar Mix 2, Piano... or anything else, NOTHING changes even though the new Staff Style is listed in the inspector. Switch to another track then, back, inspector will show Guitar Mix 2 or Piano as selected, even though it is still showing a staff style of Guitar Mix. Using Show Staff styles from the Layout menu Bass, Piano and Guitar Mix have a check in the far right column. Since Apple didn't label it, what does that mean? Even here I pick some style (even the checked ones ) and NOTHING changes. I'm going nuts over this stupid issue.
  11. Sorry I didn't check back sooner. 3DWaves made a stand (3D printer) for my 0-Coast and Mother 32. It's great. Still, I appreciate the tip, but I am more and more falling for the click and it will be in your home in a few days routine on many many things!
  12. If you were able to maybe borrow a pair of 40's, it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the differences. Sorry for such a late reply. Alas, I have no friends who have good headphones...
  13. Anyone have good pics or example of a clever way to mount continually changing collections of small desktop synths (0-Coast, Korg Volcas...)? I see some good ideas on various videos on YouTube, but nobody seems to sell something, at least what I am looking for. I am handy in the woodshop, but more in building vs designing. Design is hard!
  14. I have the M50X for home studio and the M30X for work music/podcast so I am on both sides of this! The 50s are quite comfortable, but seem too bassy for my mixing. Meanwhile the 30s are pure torture on my ear flesh. Seems I should have probably bought two 40s based on what people are saying here... Sigh.
